I need to move back out, but I fear it may be too expensive to live in nj myself and I need to move out of state. I’ve always wanted to live out of state but have no idea where to go.
Similarly, I feel unsatisfied with work. I went to county college for studio art- if I had more money I would’ve loved to go further for ceramics or any sculptural art/craft art. Worked in restaurant industry since high school, currently bartend and hate it. Did work at a preschool for over a year but left because of low pay + how the school was ran, really stayed so long because I love working with children. Currently work as a paraprofessional, which I am both interested + hesitant with exploring further. I feel like it’s impossible to move out where I live, and I’m scared of getting stuck at a job by me. I interviewed at a school today for a so so job but it’s in a very rural area that is close to me, but not where I want to move out to in the next year, and I’m just scared of getting stuck here for another year.
Is there any way to get a job with that info that guarantees housing or moving far away? Any ideas? Any recommendations? I always fantasize about programs involving teaching aboard or across country, artist residencies, WWOOF type activities, etc but just have nowhere to start. I feel like I need a major change to set my life in action. Also ideally a path where having health + dental insurance would be a GIANT plus but what can you do if not.

My boyfriend and I have been together for about 8 months now. He is gujurati and I am white. His family is very traditional for context. He is moving to Louisiana for medical school, and we live in NC. I am also in the medical profession and just graduated. He had a 3 week program starting in June that we decided I would join him on in Louisiana. This would be to get some time together and also decide if we wanna live together and make that move as a couple. Everything is going fine, but his parents had planned to visit the first weekend. I had offered to leave if it would cause problems, but I would not continue the relationship if so. He asked me to stay and I agreed. The weekend approaches and his parents say they are gonna stay a week. I have met them before but only after a car accident where I met them in the ER. They were surprised and had no idea about me or that we had gone on a trip together. My boyfriend had lied and said he went with friends. Anyways, fast forward to now. He gets scared and says I should fly back home as to not cause a problem because he didn’t tell them I was coming. He offers to buy my ticket, so I pack up and head down to the lobby after a lot of crying. I told him not to contact me after this before I started packing up. He chased me down to the lobby and refused to get the ticket because he decided he wanted me to stay. Well, they arrived and he told them I was staying here until he leaves at the end of June. They were iffy on it but tolerating. It has been about 4 days so far. We have all had breakfast together, lunch, dinner at restaurants, looked at houses and apartments for him. We’ve all laughed, joked, etc. I am a vegetarian, so there’s been no issue with that. I have no cussed, no drinking, very conservative dress since they’ve been here. And we have slept in separate rooms. I have talked to my boyfriend and asked him why he was so scared and his said he didn’t expect it to go this well.
In the talks my boyfriend has had with them prior to this second meeting, they do not support our relationship. Issues with culture, language, religion, etc.
What is the likelihood they will allow our relationship? I want to move with him and could see myself marrying him one day. He says there are some white people in his family, but very few.

Hi all. I'm kinda new to this sub. I just needed to ask this question for all the capricorns out there.
Disclaimer: This is not an attack on all capricorns I'm just asking to know why. So don't come at me with the "we're not all like that!" Comments.
This is kinda long so get ready to be here for a bit. TL:DR Summary will be at the bottom of the post.
So for context I (Cancer, M.) Dated my now ex gf (Capricorn, F) for about a year and some months. This was back in 2017. We met while at work. (We worked for a Boys and Girls club back then. ) She was a part of a summer program where college students come and tutor the children there. I was there because I had grew up in that area and I was there as a kid as well and wanted to give back. I was there as a volunteer and then I got hired on after about 6 months.
It was one time in the middle of the day and I'm on my break watching an episode of attack on titan and she walks in and asks "Oh you like anime? I never woulda thought that. I thought you were just into lifting and working out." (I was the designated sports coach there so I made sure the kids stay busy with whatever program was in for the day.) I just go: "Well, you know the old saying: Don't judge a book by it's cover. You thinking just because I lift and played sports back in the day doesn't mean that's my entire persona." We both opened up a little bit and took and slowly but surely took a liking to each other. (But in hind-sight this shoulda been a red flag.)
So fast forward a few months and the summer program is coming to a close and the club is shuttting down for a few weeks and getting ready for the school year and prepping for all the after school programs they're having the new and returning kids getting into. So all staff that were there during the summer and the permanent staff go out to celebrate another year with a group dinner. So we all meet up, we have a good time, say our goodbyes, cuz some weren't comin back, some were returning next summer, some got new jobs, etc. So the celebration was well worth it.
I was chillin, everyone was drinkin while I just had a soda (Not a drinker.) Another co-worker of mine says he notices my ex just watching my every move. Another co-worker (female) says the same. And (I'm mad oblivious at this point.) Legit didn't notice. I'm too caught up with celebration. But then I see her and our eyes meet and she looks away. My co-workers caught it as well. So I go to her table and sit with her and I ask, have you watching me for while? And in typical capricorn fashion she denies it, but then I tell her I have 4 other eyes saying otherwise and she then confesses that she's been crushing on me. So we exchange numbers and we keep in contact afterwards and we have a group text thread goin on with all our former co-workers. (These are all good people.)
So fast forward about 4 months and we're now dating. I'm on cloud 9 at this point. And I thought she was too and slowly but surely her true nature started to bleed thru and boy did it bleed out hard. It was her birthday and she wanted to go out to some super fancy restaurant that I've never even heard of and she always liked the pink line of underwear and she was an avid reader as well.
So taking all this into consideration when her birthday came up, her family, friends were all there for her celbration dinner and I got her an ice cream cake along with what she's been hinting at as well. (I apparently only got her a gift.) I made sure she got what she wanted. She legit burst into tears. I was like oh shit! Did I do something wrong? When she was able to gather herself, she assured me that nothing was wrong, she just never got anything like it before.
So flash foward another few months. She's taking her final class for her masters degree but winds up failing it. And she calls me cryin, sayin that she failed it but she studies so hard just to wind up failing it, how she was a failure just downin herself. She then says she doesn't know how she's gonna take the class again cuz her sister helped her out and she ain't gonna pay for the class, so I ask how much is it for the class it's a grand to retake it. At this point I'm jobless too (The club lost it's funding and we had to shut down.) but I'm still gettin money from unemployment and my VA benefits are helpin out too, so I'm survivin off those. The class was 3/4 of my benefits check. But I had some savings cover for the hit. She takes the class again for next semester and passes it within the 80 percentile and we celebrate.
A few months roll by again, and she lands a new job for the city. So she's excited and she's been workin. I've been interviewing for tech jobs and I've also done a test for both the city and the local couny placing pretty high in the 90 percentile. I'm just waiting on whoever hits me up first or whoever decides to take me in. I'm thinkin well we're kinda solid. And my birthday's comin up, so I'm thinkin she's got me, right? (Cue Anakin Skywalker and Padme meme.) I've been hinting at the new project rock line and his new headphones that just released and the New God of War that just released for the ps4 at the time. I'm thinking she's got me, I looked out for her when she needed it, I would hope she do the same.... Well that's the thing about hope.... You can't put too much stock into it and if you do... You're gonna be let down. Hard. And this was the case. This was the start of the downfall.
My birthday rolls around and I'm gettin texts and calls from family, friends for all the birthday wishes... But nothing from her... I get it she's working and she just got the job I'll even take a happy belated birthday... The next day rolls around... Nothing. I texted her: "Thanks for wishing me a happy birthday." No response... I get a response a day later with an apology saying that she was too busy caught up with work and just exhausted. Happy belated birthday. That... Was... it.... I was fuming at this point but I still gave her the benefit of the doubt. I asked her was something wrong? Why'd she just leave me hangin like that? She said I just need a little bit of time to get my head on straight, I promise I'll make up for missing your birthday. (It never happened btw.)
Another month rolls by... I'm over the whole birthday thing at this point. I just cut my loss and said fuck it, not a big deal, right? (This was my second mistake and another red flag I ignored.) She hits me up that morning and asks to go to breakfast and this place her and family go to. I'm like sure, why not. I just got thru hittin the gym and I'm hungry, cool. We go and we get there and we're havin a good time, we're reconnecting since she's been busy with work. I get a call from a manger at HP and he wants to hire me so I'm like yes! Things are lookin up, cool. I pay for the food and we roll out. I'm good, she's happy.
Another few months roll by I'm past my probarionary period and I'm traveling from place to place racking up loads of overtime and I'm doin pretty well. This was around October of 2018, I think. It's the weekend we're both off. I hit her up askin if she wants to go to a movie later on and grab some dinner after. She says yes. I hit the gym for a few hours and start to get ready for date night. I'm goin to fill up my tank at the gas station before headin her way.
I fill up then roll out. I grab her and we're chillin and I pull up to mall where the theater's at. I park, I get out open up her door makin sure she's all good. As we're walkin, I see a lady strugglin with her stroller tryin to get it to unfold for her kid. (My sister has the exact same model of stroller so I ho and help her with it. It's a press and release type of mechanism. She wasn't pressing the button hard enough.) So I just let her know to put some pressure on it to release and fold. Literally only took 2 minutes.
We're not missin any previews or anything we still got 10 minutes to get in before the previews start. She asks why did you do that? I ask help a lady that was strugglin with her kid's stroller? Cuz she needed help. She then says just because you think you're good doesn't mean everyone's gonna like you. I replied: So, basically like how you did when it was my birthday and you forgot? So does that mean I shouldn't like you, either? I'm still waitin on you to make it up to me like ypu said you would. She got flustered and said she doesn't want to see the movie anymore and asked me to take her home. I happily obliged.
On the way back she told me that I didn't have to come at her like that and it was completely embarassing how I lost my cool. I told her ever since she landed her new job, you've grown more colder and more distant toward me, why? I helped you take the class you needed and helped you get to where you're at. Every single time you needed help, I went out of my to do it, It seems like everytime you need help or want anything I'm there but when it's me I gotta figure my out or take the L. I didn't even get a fuckin happy birthday from you. I'm always the one givin but never gettin anything back from you. She had the look on her face for a about a minute that everything I was saying was true. But then she uttered these words that I'll never forget: It's not my fault that you like me more than I like you. I just said, bet. Dropped her off back at her place and got on.
A few weeks pass and she asks me if I was ok. I say yep. I'm good over here. She said, she didn't mean to be that blunt but I've always been honest about when comes to how I feel. I just said no need to apologize you said what felt, it is what it is. I'm just gonna match your energy from now on. She says ok. I think that's for the better moving forward. I reply, yep.
Another few weeks roll by and she asks if we could go out to dinner. I say sure, what time? She says 7. So 7 rolls by I I'm at her apartment building I text her that I'm outside waiting for her. She's a bit confused but she says ok, I'm heading down. She gets to my car, I unlock the door for her and she's standing there for a few seconds expectantly. I just roll down the window and say the doors unlocked, get in. She's confused again but gets in. She's annoyed at this point. We ride in silence minus the radio. We roll up to the place she wanted to eat at (Lucille's BBQ) and I get out and she's still in the car. She's lookin at me and I'm lookin at her awkwardly and I say you can let yourself out. She just rolls down the window and asks if we could talk.
I go back in the car and she immediately says I don't like you're treating me. What is this? I just spewed what she said to me a month back: "It's not your fault that I like you more than you like me, remember?" So I'm just leveling the field. As true as those words are you just showed me how to treat you. So yeah, you set the precedence, I'm just moving accordingly. You wanna treat me completely neutral? I'm doing the same for you.You only wanna receive? Well so do I. She said this isn't how relationships work!
I said no, it doesn't, it requires effort on both ends. Hell you couldn't even do the 80/20 thing. I was doing 90 and you were only doing 10. But you felt like that 10 that you were givin out was SOOO much that you felt like you never had to do anything else. You forgot my birthday, while I made yours special, I made efforts to make you feel safe and loved while you just left me there to fuckin hang, I gave too much to only receive so little, you treated me like an unenducated boob while you kept throwing your degree in my face, WHICH I helped you along with.
You felt like you deserved more while doing so little. So what makes you think that you deserve better than what you're actually putting out? I'm sure you don't do this at work but with this relationship you say fuck it? Very confusing. You haave false perception of perfection about yourself which is further than the truth. You say you don't like I'm treating you now, when YOU caused it.
Come to think of it you never reciprocated any of my actions. Only when it's negative is when you do or say something. When I call you out something you do that I don't like, you just shut down and feel like I'm attacking you and you just shut down and we never get past the problem. If you tell me something that I do that you don't like I'll correct it. Did you even like me to begin with?
At this point she kept an absolute poker face and just said this is why I have a backup. (If I wasn't done then, I was definiely done at this point.) I asked her wtf she meant by that. She went and then told me that she has her guy best friend on standby just in case she was still single by the time she was 35. I legit was like wtf?! Seriously? Like wtf was the point of that. I then said cool, guess what? You're guaranteed to be STILL be single at that time if you continue to treat people like this. Acting like you're gods gift to this green earth. And people should worshipthe ground you walk on and acting as if they're lucky if you do the bare minimum. If this how you're gonna continue to treat me, then get the FUCK outta my car. Get an uber back home. FUCK EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF YOU, YOU RANCID B!?&# And mean that from the pit of my fuckin soul.
The look on her face was priceless. A combination of suprised with a bit of shock and flustered. She gets out, I pull off. And I think I'm never gonna see her again, right? WRONG!!!!
Remember those jobs that I tested out for well a few months after this around the start of 2019 the local county called me in sayin I got a the job as a helpdesk analyst. (Friggin Sweet!) A few months roll by and we get some overtime for a project after hours... In a building that she works in... (I know because I picked her up from there before.) We're walkin in, her and her co-workers are walkin out. She see's me and saw that had some major physical growth since then she tries to stop and turn around to talk to my I give her the bird and keep it pushin. FWIW She looked stressed and gained bit of weight back then. Not sure how she looks now and frankly Idgaf.
TL:DR: I. Cancer M met my now ex gf Capricorn F, we hit it off during the start of the relationship, but she let her true colors show as time passed. Whenever she needed or wanted something I was there for her, she never reciprocated. Helped her get her masters with a class she needed to retake, she gets a job things start to take a turn. She forgets my birthday, I suck it up. I'm always the one giving, I lose it on her and tell her off she says I don't care, she then tells me she has guy best friend as a back up. Tosses me like I'm Tuesday's trash. A few months after the break up, I upgrade, she downgrades.She see's what she fucked up. She treated me like I was disposable or a means to an end.

Hi all,
So I was accepted to a PhD program at a university hospital and we had to undergo background checks including FBI fingerprint scan. I received a misdemeanor for keeping a laptop that I found after being unable to find the original owner and case was settled with a conviction as a conditional discharge back in 2019. My background check came back today showing that this charge was on there. During the application, I’m pretty sure the question for convictions only asked for felony convictions so I didn’t report it there, but I did report the misdemeanor when submitting the background check app thru the third party organization the school uses. Should I be worried about my acceptance being revoked? I’m setting up a meeting with one of the program directors to ask, but I wanted more perspectives. Thanks!

My FIL finally passed after his long battle with dementia and 6 months of several brain bleeds. He passed last Tuesday between 2-3 am which was the day after my kiddos 19th birthday. I called MIL around 10:30 am to give my condolences and it went as well as could be expected. She tried stomping all over boundaries and was very disappointed when my standard answer was "I don't know." My older 2 kids are 2 years and 5 days apart so the week before my oldest turned 21 and then the day before was the middle's birthday. She wanted to know if they received her birthday texts, and I legit did not know if they had, mostly because they were doing their own things and I didn't ask if they had heard from her. She was more offended that I didn't know than them not responding to her. The other big thing that she tried to steamroll me on was a situation that happened the Thursday before. It's important, I promise... so my youngest is a freshman in a very small school, PreK-12 grade small. My husband's cousin on FIL's side and his family live in our district and his kids attend the same school. We run into them occasionally. I should mention that the cousin is my youngest's godfather, like complete pomp and circumstance catholic godfather. We've tried to have a relationship with him and his but it goes nowhere so we are friendly and polite when we see them but don't go out of our way any longer to pursue them. So anyway, the night in question was a 3rd thru 12th grade chorus concert. It's a big deal around here. The biggest concert of the year and it's so sweet to see all of our kids sing the finale together. Well, cousin's 4th grade daughter had her first solo and we were so happy for her. We cheered her and our son on. Leaving is always a huge pain, everyone gathers in the hall and lots of chatter happens. We run into cousin and wife and kids. Behind them is his parents (FIL's brother and wife). Okay, grandparents there to see their granddaughter...how sweet! But behind them is Aunt D and her husband. Aunt D is fil's sister and hasn't seen us in years, she lives out of state and only sees my kids at functions. Let's remember at this point, my son's grandfather (their brother) is on his deathbed, they know the kids are in the same school and program, and they are there supporting cousin's kid. Aunt D looked horrified to see DH and I. We were surprised to see her, put on smiles, and were nice. Then they sped off out of the school before saying hi to my kid. It hit me so hard that I was crying when my son came out. He knew something was wrong and asked if Pa was gone. I was able to say he was holding on but something else happened. I didn't elaborate at that time but I left and let DH drive him home (we had met at the school after work) and on the drive home DH explained what happened. Youngest came into the house sad and said to me "It started with Nana, but they all make me feel invisible." To say my heart broke is an understatement. So back to MIL, on the phone call she decides to start talking about D. I tell her, I don't wanna talk about her. She starts again with "D said..." and I told her to stop. D is not something I want to discuss. So she then starts speaking faster and blurts out "D said son looks just like DH" and I again have to say do not speak of it. This time I add I will hang up if she does it again. By now I am exhausted from the conversation and I end the call quickly. The next day some things went down in a group text that is my DH, MIL, BIL, and BIL's husband) but not me and my DH told them we would not be going to the services this week. He got home from work and showed me the texts and I lost it. I started typing a response with some basic rules about how we expected to be treated. Here they are: 1. No out of pocket comments about personal thoughts or feelings.

1. The focus is entirely on the loss of our loved one.
   
2. If at any point, you are told "I do not want to discuss/talk/engage in this right now, you will immediately change topic or the person telling you this will turn and walk away.
   
3. No guilting, trying to share another perspective, or intentional emotional sabotage.
   

I also put our feelings into words and it was 2 full text boxes. I hit send and waited. Within 10 mins my phone was ringing and it was my BIL, the golden child. He started making demands and I told him he was dealing with me and not DH so things were going to go differently than he wanted them to go. We talked for over an hour. It was like walking a track. He went round and round on a few things I said but managed to ignore all the important things. It went nowhere.
So yesterday I had a 3 hour breakfast meeting with BIL's husband. I adore this man and have from day 1. He and I are the outsiders who can see what it actually happening and while we don't always agree with how to deal with things, we both see the issues. We always have wonderful communication and can identify where MIL has manipulated her stories. We are the clean up crew, if you will. During our talk, I got to explain to him EVERYTHING that has gone on over the last 6 months, what actions caused the conditions, but most importantly, what has transpired in the few days since fil passed. He was completely floored by many of the actions that were made by his husband and the MIL. It was a very good conversation. One of the issues was that for the online obit, 7 pictures were added, and my children, his only grandchildren, were not included in a single picture...but you can bet there was one of my BIL and FIL, and one of him fishing, and one with his friends. My adult and adult adjacent children were surprised that the obit went on and on about how he loved being a grandparent but they weren't actually included. BIL and MIL saw no reason for the kids to be included, until BIL's husband saw the obit and was like "awww hell nah!" That was fixed within 2 hours. One of the things we both noticed is that MIL is downright giddy about the funeral. She's excited that soo many people are going to be "visiting" her while forgetting they are there to mourn my FIL. We both acknowledge that people show grief in different ways but she is acting in a disturbing manner.
Anyway, we were invited to have dinner in public with the 3 of them and the 5 of us. My oldest couldn't get off work with such little notice so it was middle and youngest, DH and I. It only too MIL 17 seconds to be rude to me. First she hugged everyone and completely ignore me so I stood there with my arms held out...she finally looked at me and said "oh I love you." As she came in for the hug....then she said "be careful what you say, I'm on edge" my 19 year old looked at me and mouthed WTF. Then dinner was off and running. She threw a tantrum before our order was even taken, walking out because the kids were in a conversation with their guncle. BIL followed her out and when they came back in made his husband change seats with MIL. My youngest kept count of all the times she acknowledged him over dinner and it was 3. 1 hello, 1 during dinner, and 1 goodbye. She would only talk to my middle kid... never saying anything to DH or I.
During the goodbyes, she kept telling me she loved me. She disagrees with me but she loves me. She loves me so, so much. I think she said it in some iteration 15 times before I could get around the table and walk away. Even BIL was like "okay, that's enough".
So tomorrow night, we get to spend 4 hours at the funeral home, surrounded by people my MIL has spread misinformation to about me (confirmed by bil during phone call) and that cannot stand me and again on Wednesday for the service and reception. I wish we could go pay our respects and leave but we have been begged by bil and his husband to just get through this and then we can walk away if we want.
I just have to breathe, take my anxiety meds, and get through 52 hours.

My entire life has been turned upside since last Wednesday and I found this subreddit and wanted to know if anyone could relate.
When I was little, like 5, I remember intensely liking girl characters. I thought Esmerelda, Nani, Kida, and Jasmine were the PRETTIEST character I had ever seen and used to replay their scenes all the time. My sister had “normal” boy crushes, like Peter Pan, Eric and Milo. I remember her explaining to me that when I really like a girl character I’m admiring her and want to be like her, and when I admire a boy character like my sister then I’m attracted to them. My mom still brings up how funny it was that most of the characters I admired had dark hair since I’m very pale and blonde.
Throughout elementary I never hit a boy crazy stage like my friends were starting to enter, and in middle school I started to feel self conscious that I still didn’t feel a pull towards any boys. In 8th grade a ton of my friends and I watched Thor at a sleepover and they all cheered when he had a shirtless scene and I felt very weird having to fake being happy. I genuinely felt nothing for seeing him and it made me really wonder why at 14 I still hadn’t started liking boys.
Throughout high school I had one “crush” on a boy I friends with. After months of knowing him I believed I had developed a crush because we were compatible and funny, and I believed that if we dated I “probably wouldn’t be grossed out.” Which is the furthest my attraction could get.
In college I turned down every guy who asked me out claiming I had a boyfriend, because when I would be asked I would get this wave of anxiety through me. Not because I felt unsafe, but because I really didn’t want to go out with them. I learned about what asexuality was and was like “omg that’s me, I feel no pull towards any men.” I could fantasize about fictional men, like Brendan Fraser in the Mummy lol but any time a real guy would flirt with me I would get that wave of a feeling like ew. I considered myself demisexual, because I took the fact that the high school boy didn’t repulse me as evidence I could like a guy.
In my junior year of college I bit the bullet and accepted a date. I had just turned 21 and had never had my first kiss and really craved that milestone. He planned a nice coffee date and the entire time I felt this feeling like I shouldn’t be here, I don’t like him. He kept asking me if I’m comfortable/feeling okay because I don’t think I could tell I was into the date. He gave me a kiss goodbye (after asking he was very nice) and I felt nothing but this repulsion. I said yes to a second date but then when he started sending me flirty texts I told him I got a new job and am no longer looking to date.
I was sad that I was asexual. I’ve known since I was little that I want to be a mom. I want a marriage and kids and I was worried that couldn’t happen for me. At 9 I found out that my friends dad was away for a year because he was in the military and I used to fantasize that my future husband would be deployed or even dead so I could have a house and kids but no man.
During my last year of college I met my next door neighbor, this girl I’ll Megan. We ran into each other in the hallway and ended up standing there talking for the next 3 hours. We were inseparable for the next year. She came over every morning to have coffee with me and I came to her place every night for a movie or video games. I had never felt a pull to anyone like her. We could talk for hours and we did everything together.
One night she told me she had broken up with her boyfriend because she realized she was no longer bi, but instead was only into women. I felt so sad in that moment that I wasn’t into women and couldn’t be with her, that unfortunately I was demisexual and only towards men. Idk if she was sharing this because she was gauging how I felt, but she accepted me being asexual and we moved on to another topic. When we graduated she took a job across the country and I moved to Europe for my masters and we quickly lost touch.
It’s been 2 years since we talked now. I didn’t go on a single date in Europe and continued to turn down guys. I’m 25 now and have been feeling this longing to finally be in a relationship. I want a family one day and started feeling anxious about knowing I need to bite the bullet and start accepting dates with men. And then I made a LinkedIn page and Megan came up in my “people you may know” last Wednesday.
Seeing her picture for the first time in 2 years has brought a rush of feelings. The flutter of excitement I felt when I think of spending time with her, how beautiful and funny she is, how I felt spending time with her, so comfortable. For the first time in my entire life I thought “Am I gay? Do I like women?” Every crush I had as a kid, all the girls I “wanted to be like” and that anxious feeling I get when guys flirt with me.
I literally typed into Reddit “how did I not know I like women” and this subreddit came up with a ton of similar stories. I’m having this complete identity crisis, it puts my entire life into perspective when I think of Megan and girls like her. My parents are very conservative, I went to church twice a week until I was 13 for youth programs. When I think about telling them one day I get scared and feel like they’ll see me as a predator? Like women get objectified all the time and they’ll view me like I’m doing something bad and unnatural. But when I think of having a girlfriend, genuinely for the first time in my entire life, I feel so happy and comfortable.
At least half my friend group are bi or gay and I still didn’t consider it for myself despite who I surround myself with lol. I’m visiting a friend back in Europe this summer from my masters who is bi and thinking of confessing to her, but I feel dumb now since last year I explained how I was asexual idk if she’ll understand why it’s taken me so long.

They are agencies that hire county and state employees who are paid through Federal grants.
They offer Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) training for a CDL licenses, CNA, forklift driver, certificates.
I noticed when I visited, they get defensive when I ask questions, like:
Why aren't the schools preparing graduates to look for a job?
Why is the Federal funding going to American Job Center agencies (most of their offices are empty when you walk in), versus paying public school teachers higher salaries and offering job search training WITHIN the schools?
I notice some people get defensive when I ask questions. Its always, "I don't know, we offer 211 services, for food pantries, used clothes via Goodwill, etc....
DuPage County, Cook County, its all, "register your name for our 'programs' to get a food pantry voucher, Goodwill clothing voucher to learn how to dress for success...."
Why aren't high-school graduates prepared for that?
Am I going to the wrong places to look for work? I'm over 50 and I have my Masters and a multi-industry background.
While I can lead, direct and train, I'm stuck not working, or pushed to low wage jobs that don't cover housing and a car repair bill. People think most adults can work jobs that don't cover those expenses.
Then, I approached nonprofits, on reddit and the people there got defensive when I was stating "my multi-industry corporate background can be extremely valuable in this environment."
Lots of people don't realize that those who are lifelong learners can train themselves to do things. I've seen people get jobs when they weren't qualified.
I guess I need to avoid govt agencies, 'American Job Centers.' I wasn't asked, "Hey, could you run our workshop, you have useful skills. Instead, it's, you can ATTEND our center workshops.
What I see right now, are States commoditizing off of unemployed and vulnerable people to get Federal funding. Food pantries, workshops, help with a utility bill.
They suggested if I need gas money or food money income, to work for Kohls, Amazon, Chick-fil-A, or supermarkets. How does that cover rent, utilities, car, gas, insurance?
Are there fewer jobs and more job seekers?

I can't find work and I'm from the USA. Masters, multi-industry background.

Hi all,
So I was accepted to a PhD program at a university hospital and we had to undergo background checks including FBI fingerprint scan. I received a misdemeanor for keeping a laptop that I found after being unable to find the original owner and case was settled with a conviction as a conditional discharge back in 2019. My background check came back today showing that this charge was on there. During the application, I’m pretty sure the question for convictions only asked for felony convictions so I didn’t report it there, but I did report the misdemeanor when submitting the background check app thru the third party organization the school uses. Should I be worried about my acceptance being revoked? I’m setting up a meeting with one of the program directors to ask, but I wanted more perspectives. Thanks!

So far my adult life has consisted of mostly misfires. I grew up loving movies and YouTube and wanted more than anything to work in the film/video world. Learned adobe premiere in late highschool and decided to go to a big state schools film program (I couldn’t afford the private school I wanted)
However, during college I had a couple of bad professors that belittled me quite a bit. A lot of it was not understanding things like the focus triangle and other aspects of cameras. I guess it was expected students already needed to know this before starting at the university, both these professors told me straight up I should drop out even though my grades were fine. I don’t think any of this was my fault now, but at the time it sent me down a spiral that i still find myself in.
I switched from the film program to history, I always loved history and people in my life told me I would make a good history teacher. I got all the way up to doing an internship co-teaching at a school. Found out within a month that it wasn’t for me, and my partner finally convinced me to drop. I graduated with my degree in history but no teaching credentials
After I graduated I continued working at a plant nursery I was working at while going through school. I loved taking care of plants but hated just about everything else, but for some reason I couldn’t leave. To be honest I was suicidal, and it took my partner’s mother and grandparents sitting me down and telling me it was ok to quit. My dad did not agree.
After that, I was unemployed for about a month and found an office job making double what I made at the nursery. It wasn’t in my field at all, but I figured it would be a chill job I could just put my head down and make money in. I didn’t know that a big part of the job is taking calls from upset customers. This company is kind of shady, so everyday I’m confronted with people who are rightfully upset at the company. I feel like a bad person working here, and being yelled at on the phone everyday has really damaged my mental health. My commute is also 90 minutes both ways. I’ve been here 7 months.
The problem is I’m more financially secure here than I’ve ever been. It isn’t money many people would find secure, but I can save about $200 dollars per paycheck which to me is a lot. I’m not sure if I should just suffer (for lack of a better world) for a while for the money or cut my losses and try to do something that makes me happy.
Sorry for the long post, this is also kind of venting for me. Any help is appreciated.

I am not one to post, but after seeing all the positive vibes in this subreddit, I felt it was also necessary to pass on some encouragement.
I took my test on 6/8 at 0800. I did well in school and placed well on my Kaplan tests and study guides. I was so confident going into the test that I made some light-hearted jokes to break the tension in the waiting room that morning. Well, let me tell you that the NCLEX will humble you. I was so confident that my test would shut off at 85 questions that my heart dropped when it popped over to question 86. I took a deep breath and kept plugging away. Questions 100, 125, 138, all the way to 150. I have to admit I was absolutely perplexed and was sure I would fail my test after walking out of the building. However, thanks to this community, my 48-hour wait for the quick results gave me hope.
You see, everyone is eager to post high achievements such as honors in their program, getting that last job slot in the ICU out of school, or passing 85 questions without a hiccup. But there are those of us who have to walk the long mile, haha. I just want to tell you a few words of wisdom that I gathered through this experience and through all the wonderful users of this subreddit.

1. Go into the test assuming you will be answering all 150 questions, and prepare for a long, grueling test. It isn't supposed to be easy, but that makes passing all the more rewarding!

2. You have plenty of time! I am someone who likes to use every minute of a test, and 5 hours is plenty of time for 150 questions, so use it. Take a break, stretch, grab some water, close your eyes for a moment and rub your temples if need be and simply breathe, there's no need to rush.

3. If you make it to 150 questions, it likely means that you either passed! Or, that you were right on the verge of passing and the test was giving you every chance to just bump over the passing line a little more. Regardless of your outcome, you should be proud to have made it this far.

Lastly, I know it is easy for me to stand here and type all this motivational crap because I passed. Truthfully, I was at peace with the reality of my failing as well. If it helps, from my perspective, it is just a test; you've all made it through nursing school. The hard part of the journey is over. I understand how disheartening failure can be, but you are amazing for making it this far, and 45 days will fly by before you know it. I found Kaplan to be a good resource to prepare me for the test, so I cannot speak on Uworld, Archer, etc, but Kaplan seemed to do a good job of representing the style of questions that I saw on the NCLEX.
Best of luck to you all! and keep that chin up if you had to take all 150 questions, it just makes the memory more bittersweet when you realize that you did indeed pass! =)

Is there a good gaming laptop that has a 1440p screen and is cheap? My budget is max 800 dollars. The games i play are pretty light esports games like valorant and cs2. Consistent 150-200 fps with little to no drops in those games are a must for me. Ive seen a lot of good laptops for running them at this price range but they are all 1080p. Thanks.

I'm an exchange student from the US. My home university is considered a tier 3 school and I am a sophomore in Bioengineering undergraduate program. I wanted to come to SNU to challenge myself as I've never been in an environment where everyone strives to be the best. I was never very good at any particular subjects and have just studied to pass without any real passion or competition.
Coming here has changed me, everyone in the class is on top of literally everything, class averages of traditionally hard subjects being 80% and above. Although I'm certain I will fail some classes, I feel as if it's molded me into a student that will work harder and find passion in my studies.
But it has been extremely emotionally taxing for me. Although I did come here to challenge myself, I feel as if it had made me overexert what I can do. I don't think I can ever be on the level of most of these students even after this experience. I'm not sure if it's something cultural or just me, but I have never seen this many or as high of a caliber anywhere in the U.S.
I'm grateful but have grown extreme respect for the people I've encountered. This is the life changing perspective I didnt know I needed. Will work harder and strive to be even half the hardworkers SNU students are as my end goal. 🙏🙏

If I take the PANCE the same month I finish PA school, like within the next week after my last day of the program, is that too soon? We have to take the PACKRAT and the EOC that same month but 3 weeks will have passed by by the time I'm planning to take the PANCE. Do you think the timeframe between taking these tests are too soon? Im just afraid I might get test fatigue but I also want to take the PANCE ASAP since I've been "studying" for it for the PACKRAT/EOC anyway.

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well.
I am in the process of transferring schools in favor to the IB program. At the moment, I am undergoing my IGCSE exams and will be finished this Thursday. For grade 11, my current institution offers A- levels (Cambridge) but my new school offers the IB program. However, I am facing some difficulties with the groups (subjects) I should take.
The new academy offers the subjects as shown in the image attached. Before I proceed, I would like to step back and analyze my options.
My aim is to partake a degree in engineering, with regards to computer science. Initially, the topic 'digital societies' was on my list. But now I do not know weather to partake in it or delve into business management. I believe taking business management would be beneficial for my career.
Additionally, Group 1 and 2 have puzzled me, as I am uncertain in the difference. I would like to add that Arabic language would most probably unavailable as I am an expatriate and Arabic is only offered to Bahraini passport holders (that's a topic for another day). So I assume my only options for both languages are English. I had also applied in a different center of learning where they offered French in group 2 (French is the default for expats), but unfortunately I did not get accepted. My query is that what are the differences between group 1 and group 2 English. P.S: I take English as First Language for IGCSE and intend on taking higher level English in IB).
After long consideration, I have come up with an shabby list of the topics I will take:

Group 3: Either Business Management or Digital Societies (Could anyone inform me if DS would be relevant for engineering?)

Last year, my husband and I (29F) moved to a new state for my healthcare college program. We love it here, but making friends has been very exhausting.
I’ve moved around a lot, so it’s been hard to have a social life in general. I get along very well with the girls in my program and we will text about things other than school quite often. However, when I try to suggest we go somewhere outside of class together, people are super dodgy. I don’t push it after suggesting it once because it’s clear they probably don’t want to.
However, I’ve also met quite a few other women through things like yoga and going out to other places. We always get along so well and a lot of times I’m not even the one to give out my number. After a few days, I’ll ask if they would like to go to coffee or something via text and I usually won’t get a response back (so I don’t push it), or they will reply and nothing is really planned.
I’m just wondering if I’m doing something wrong? I’ve been an introvert for most of my life but within the past two years I’ve gained so much confidence. I feel like people like me, but it’s super confusing. I don’t understand how people make friends at this age where it seems like everyone else already has their best friends. I have honestly never had a best friend since middle school and since then, I’ve had people I text occasionally but nothing crazy.
How do you find someone who will actually go through with plans with you?

Background: Recently, one member of a discord group (who i'll call B) added 2 new people into the discord server (Y and D who they knew in real life and were ) without asking or bringing it up to the rest of the group beforehand. Y and D quickly began to dominate the conversation on the server, mostly only speaking to B and ignoring others, especially my partner A. A had confided in me many times that they felt ignored since Y and D joined, even telling me about a time they joined a public call D and B were in together they both ignored A and even started making fun of them as if they weren't there. A and myself approached R, the person who owned the current server we had been using, and expressed our issue with Y and D being allowed to join without them knowing anyone other than B or anyone being asked first, especially because not even a year prior R and other member K both cornered me in a group DM that excluded A and yelled at me to the point of tears for doing the same situation with B and someone else we'll call Z. When that happened they yelled at me about how it felt like I was trying to replace them and called me an asshole for doing it. I immediately removed B and Z and apologized to them, explaining the situation that I added them without the consent of others. They understood and sent their own apologies to R and K for the miscommunication. R later made the server we currently use for everyone added B and Z herself to which everyone became very close friends. After bringing this up to R she began to gaslight me, saying that that never happened.
The other night we were supposed to have one of our weekly scheduled game nights. A had a particularly bad day leading up to it and was looking forward to the game as a means to de-stress. The group confirmed we were all still good to go 2 hours before game time so A and I decided to chill and take a small nap before game time. We woke up around a half hour before hand to see that R, another friend had canceled the game last minute. How we have these games set up is that all members need to be present in other for us to play. I have brought up how impractical this is and offered suggestions in the past to allow for those present to be able to still play and have a good time, but no one else agreed stating they wouldn't want to have a good time without everyone else present. A was understandably upset as he had been looking forward to this day since our last game and sent a message in the chat about how everyone's consistently canceling has caused us to only play a handful of games within the past 3-4 months. Our discord server has a venting chat were people can talk about the bs that's been going on in their lives, but A has refused to use it seeing as how no one responds to them or offers any support, meaning their only outlet for their problems is myself and what is supposed to be a once weekly game they use to de-stress. A really cares about the commitment we all make to each other to show up and enjoy each others company and have fun, in the past going as far as canceling dental surgery just to be able to show up for the others, but people have been canceling at the last minute for months now and it had begun to wear on A. A took responsibility for not telling everyone about everything they have been going through, but expressed their anger with the situation.
Here is where things went bad. As A and i are married I felt the need to back them up and sent my own message expressing my disappointment and anger with the group. They had hurt my partner, but had also begun to act very careless about when and how the cancel the game times always claiming mental health reasons to the point that I felt some had begun to abuse the term. We all take each others and our own mental health very seriously, but when one person would cancel multiple times for thinking their cat was angry at them while someone else who had lost their housing and been in and out of an inpatient program was still committed, it began to come off like some people were willing to claim anything as a "mental health problem" just for the sake of getting out of the game. I brought this up and said how we need to have a conversation about not just playing fast and loose with the mental health card as it takes away its seriousness for those in the group when they go through actual crisis and it isn't fair to those people especially those like A who actively puts their own issues aside for the sake of everyone else still having a good time. I was immediately attacked and called an asshole for "pitting peoples problems together" and belittling one problem just because it wasn't as serious as another. This is where my main issue started. As they did this they continually began to accuse me of belittling others quote "all because i want to play a game". My issue isn't and never was because i wanted to play the game, it was because they were actively being disrespectful by constantly canceling last minute and ignoring the effort my partner went through to ensure the games would continue. The rest of the night turned into a barrage of messages attacking me for being rude, all of which ignored A's original message as well as attempted to boil my argument down to "OP wants to game". One of the people who took to the fore front of these messages was Y, one of the newest members who had not been around while Z was going through a really bad time or while A was dealing with surgeries. I had tried to exclude Y and D from the conversation early on by saying "you guys are new and do not know the entire story of what is happening here, i am sorry you are having to see all this." That night concluded with everyone else stating that we needed to discuss this problem further when everyone is level headed and in better moods.
The next day I apologized for coming off as rude and hurting others feelings and expressed how the reason I said what i did wasn't just because i was defending my spouse, but because I too had begun feeling excluded from the group and felt for a long time that my only options were to either scream louder "HEY LOOK AT ME" to which i would be branded an attention hog and swarmed with insulting messages like i was last night or for me to ignore the situation and continue to be ignored, at which point when these problems came up they would respond "well we never knew you had an issue", which again was another one of their responses to what A had said. I expressed that i felt stuck and did not know how to move forward in this group without constantly being the asshole regardless of which path i took. That is when Y responded, again attempting to shrink my issues down to "OP wants to game" which i never even mentioned other than when i said that i didnt like how they were constantly shrinking my problems down to just that. I told Y that she needed to stop responding to this because the situation was not about her or D and the fact that she was constantly the first to respond was taking away the chance for others to respond directly to my messages without first being influenced by her pov when she does not have the full picture as she has only been in the server a couple of weeks. I expressed to her multiple times i was not trying to be rude to her but that i would appreciate if she would take a step back and allow the others to respond first. She herself had even begun her messages with "not to butt in" because she was aware that she had no part in this, yet wanted to let her two cents be known anyways.
Y went ballistic, sending multiple one word messages like "I" "oh" "i didnt" "sorry" "I just" attempting to convey an anxiety attack. I continued to apologize to her telling her she had nothing to worry about but just that i needed to hear from other people before i heard from her. Immediately the chat that had been more or less radio silent while i was attempting to calmly and rationally explain my situation (like i was asked to) blew up with everyone rushing to Y's defense and trying to calm her down completely ignoring any of my apologies. Y continued regardless and said that she was just trying to offer solutions (none of her messages actually contained any solutions, just petty insults directed toward me) to which i responded saying I understood she wanted to help, but I had already offered many solutions myself in the past and in DMs that she wasnt aware of and if they had refused to listen to me then i didnt think they would listen to her either and i would really prefer to just hear from the others first before she jumped in with solutions. That's when Y said "oh okay, i see you're just an asshole then."
I don't know how the rest of the chat went after that because I left it. I was done being insulted especially from someone i didn't even know and who i had genuinely tried to be nice too up to that point. It all just started to feel like petty high school drama at that point. I felt betrayed by everyone else who called me their friend but ignored and belittled me and my partner while rushing to the defense of a total stranger who the worst thing i had ever said to was "please stop responding before others get the chance" as the conversation was about how THEY were treating me and A, not how Y was. I left the server and deleted my discord deciding I would rather spend my time taking care of myself and my family than be roped back into their drama where i am insulted by people who i dont even know. After i left, A (who was asleep while this was happening) read through the messages and saw that Y continued to insult me, calling me even more names and quoting things i said to be like " 'oH i FeEl LiKe Im BeInG iGnOrEd' IGNORES ME INSTEAD. What a bitch." among other things. Apparently no one in the chat told her that was rude or tried to further explain my side which honestly im fine with, i've left the chat and they have proven to me that they genuinely were just trying to replace me and A with these new people. I feel shame because of the amount of time and energy i poured into these relationships that are just gone now. We helped each other out emotionally and even financially. We sent gifts to each other over the years, were each others shoulders to cry on, and I even helped Z and R navigate their feelings for each other. Am I The Asshole?

Hey everyone,
Rising sophomore in college, hoping to land an internship at a good company. Currently don't really have any experience other than a small program I wrote in high school and a school project (that I cant even share due to school policies).
This summer, I am hoping to grind leetcode and do a project or two (I realized I barely know how to program without stencil code).
My main question though is about my leetcode:
I have an extremely basic understanding of most data structures, of course I know arrays better, but I know what each data structure is, although I barely implemented any of them.

• My plan right now is to watch the neetcode videos about each data structure and algorithm while taking notes in order to understand each one and its time complexity. Also after every lecture I will do 1 or 2 of the suggested problems it says.
  • I already am doing this, and some of the problems I can do relatively easy, but some, like ones with a linked list, I could not do in 30 minutes (I did try some things, but they had one flaw or another - is that normal? Once I see the solution it makes sense, but a lot of the time it feels like I don't have the intuition.)
• After that I am planning to just start doing neetcode 150 or Grind 75.
• My plan to tackle them is to try them for 30 minutes (for the easies), and then take a look at the solution and try and solve it.
  • I will also try and revisit previous questions and try and solve them again.
    • I also plan on watching videos about trying to recognize the patterns that are in these problems.
• My question is: does this plan look good? And also if you consistently get stuck, what do you do? A lot of the times, it seems that I just do not get the "intuition" behind getting the answer in the first place, how do I train that, or does it just come with time/repetitions? Because I understand the answer when I see it, but a lot of the times can't come up with it beforehand.

Anything you would change in the plan?
My plan is to also make either a website for an AI helper (the harder project) that helps users learn, hopefully this one implements OCR, file upload, APIs for ChatGPT, authentication, etc. Another is a mobile app to help people be matched up for Senior Assassin, along with some other options/modifications to the game. Going to use React and Python for both (trying to learn React for this reason). Does this plan for the project look decent? I hope one project would be good enough for a sophomore.

Hi, I am currently about to be a senior in highschool but was having trouble choosing a major. I was looking into biomedical engineering because I was interested in researching and programming medical tools. However, after doing research people were saying an electrical engineer major would be better, but I'm not sure if this major will do any good for my interest in science/medicine. I do not want to pursue med school though. If anyone could help me choose out a major I would appreciate it!
