2024.05.29 03:14 Sdhans__ HELP Sportster wont start

Good afternoon, Forgive me if this is not the proper place to post this)
My 2009 Sportster 1200XL custom has had plenty of trouble starting and has left me stranded 3 times. These could have been unrelated instances or maybe they're completely related. Point being, I am completely clueless on what I should do next, expertise is needed. My troubleshooting is as follows:
1st time stranded (in front of office max)
My diagnosis: possible starter solenoid or starter motor failing
My solution: install solenoid push start button
Left stranded a 2nd time (at the Harley dealership of all places) the day before my solenoid start button came in the mail, solution was to push/bump start down a hill and ride home (same issue: just clicking until dead)
Left stranded a 3rd time (on base this time thank god) as follows
My guess? Ground wire I missed (checked battery ground and starter ground already but maybe I’m brain dead)
Maybe regulator? (Can’t be because my light bar didn’t come on at 12.8v)

Introduction

In the fast-paced digital landscape of 2024, the importance of community in business cannot be overstated. With 30 years of experience in business strategy, I've witnessed how a strong community can transform a company's trajectory. Whether you’re a startup or an established enterprise, building and nurturing a community around your brand is crucial. In this article, we’ll explore why a community is important in business in 2024 and how it can provide numerous benefits to your company.

Enhancing Brand Value

A community of loyal customers significantly boosts your brand value. When people feel part of a community, they develop a stronger connection to your brand. This connection translates into brand loyalty and advocacy, which are invaluable in a competitive market.

Example

Consider the tech giant Apple. Its community, often referred to as the "Apple ecosystem," is fiercely loyal. Apple enthusiasts not only buy products but also advocate for the brand, contributing to Apple's robust brand value.

Product Testing and Feedback

A community provides a ready pool of engaged users who can test new products and provide honest feedback. This process is crucial for refining products before a full-scale launch, ensuring that the final product meets customer expectations and needs.

Example

Gaming companies like Blizzard Entertainment frequently engage their community in beta testing new games. This feedback loop helps them iron out bugs and improve gameplay before the official release.

Customer Testimonials and Advocacy

Your community members can serve as powerful testimonials for your products or services. Their genuine experiences and reviews can be more persuasive than traditional advertising, helping to build trust with potential customers.

Example

Tesla's referral program leverages its community of enthusiastic owners to promote their vehicles. Testimonials from satisfied customers have been pivotal in growing Tesla's customer base.

Tiered Community Structures

Creating different levels of community engagement—basic, medium, and premium—allows businesses to cater to varying customer needs and monetize their community more effectively. Offering exclusive content or perks for premium members can generate additional revenue streams.

Example

Fitness brands like Peloton have successfully implemented tiered memberships. Basic members can access standard workouts, while premium members enjoy exclusive classes, one-on-one training sessions, and advanced metrics.

Building Loyalty and Retention

A strong community fosters a sense of belonging among customers, increasing loyalty and retention. Customers who feel valued and connected are more likely to stick with your brand long-term.

Example

Starbucks' loyalty program, Starbucks Rewards, encourages repeat business by making customers feel like valued members of an exclusive club. This program has significantly boosted customer retention.

Generating Valuable Insights

Communities are gold mines for valuable insights. By engaging with your community, you can gather data on customer preferences, pain points, and emerging trends. This information is crucial for making informed business decisions.

Example

Nike’s Nike Plus community provides the company with insights into customer behavior and preferences. This data helps Nike tailor its products and marketing strategies to better meet customer needs.

Examples of Successful Business Communities

Example 1: Harley-Davidson Owners Group (HOG)

Harley-Davidson has cultivated a strong community known as the Harley Owners Group (HOG). This community not only enhances customer loyalty but also serves as a powerful marketing tool. Members organize rides, events, and meet-ups, fostering a deep sense of camaraderie and brand loyalty.

Example 2: LEGO Ideas

LEGO has created an online community called LEGO Ideas, where fans can submit and vote on new set ideas. This community-driven approach not only engages fans but also helps LEGO innovate and stay relevant by tapping into the creativity of its most passionate customers.

Example 3: Glossier’s Community-Driven Growth

Beauty brand Glossier has built its success on community engagement. By involving its community in product development and using user-generated content for marketing, Glossier has created a loyal and engaged customer base.

Conclusion

Building a community around your business is no longer optional—it's a necessity in 2024. From enhancing brand value to generating valuable insights, a strong community provides numerous benefits that can propel your business to new heights. By fostering a sense of belonging, encouraging customer feedback, and leveraging community advocacy, you can create a robust and loyal customer base that drives sustained success.

Rebuild or look into a different one
2005 Harley-Davidson sportster Xl1200C unknown milage Front tire is a 19 which should be a 21 small dent in gas tank under the speedometer top end tapping blue smoke out of exhaust and oil on both spark plugs wondering if it is worth fixing or should I look into something else for the money that it could cost to fix. I own the bike and would do the repairs myself so it's the cost of parts. I think it's past diminishing returns

2024.05.27 20:21 Max_Rockatanski Furiosa did not cut her arm off. *Spoilers*

Finally ppl are catching up to how that happened and hopefully once it's explained they'll stop saying it's a plot hole.
Furiosa did NOT chop off her own arm. It was Mr. Harley.
I urge you to watch the film again and focus on Mr Harley (and also on Mr Davidson) He's a little bit different from the rest of Dementus' gang. When he notices that Furiosa shows affection to Jack he lets them connect. Which goes against Dementus saying 'we cannot be soft!'. Look at him when Dementus orders him to tie Furiosa to the Six Foot - he can't believe what he's hearing. When Dementus tells him to tie Furiosa by her broken arm he doesn't want to do it and is confronted by Dementus. So Mr. Norton strings her up and she leaves.
Then there's the whole lengthy torture scene until Dementus says "if you want to go home go home" or something akin to that. And that's Mr. Harley's cue. He chops off Furiosa's arm, she quickly sabotages the Six Foot, gets on a bike and takes off - because nobody would even notice someone's driving off at that point - they're all told to go home. Dementus jumps off the Six Foot. Walks past Mr Harley who's PUTTING HIS MACHETE INTO THE SHEATH and bam - Furiosa's arm in full frame.
Also much later Mr Harley is spared after the 40 day war alongside the History Man. But he's cradling Mr Davidson. Now this is my suspicion but I think Mr Harley and Mr Davidson were gay lovers. I'm basing it on the fact that Ian Roberts - who plays Mr Harley is openly gay and the theme of that scene was love so he connected with Furiosa and Jack being affectionate towards each other and wouldn't let Dementus completely ruin it.

2024.05.27 19:11 One_Phone6570 Why?

Ok. DO NOT TAKE THIS AS HOSTILE! But. I have been riding for a very long time. And back in the late 60s early 70s a 350 was a good sized bike. A 650 was a huge bike 74s were just Harleys.. the Honda 750 was a BEAST! And when Honda came out with the GW everyone was freaked. 1000ccs? Who wants anything that big? Yeah there were freaky big bikes the munch mammoth (1000cc) and Vincent lightnings but a 750 was HUGE! The streets were filled with 125,250,350 and 450cc bikes. Now a750 is a "beginner bike" a 600 sport bike is a "girls" motorcycle. A 250? Are you kidding? That's a toy! What happened? Of course, motorcycles are far less popular today. At my high school there were dozens of bikes, Honda cubs,350s, and 450s, suzuki 250s, yamaha 185s and 305s. Yamaha 100s and 250s. The odd Harley sportster or glide. Even a few Vespas. I go by the local schools and out of the three in our area, ZERO motorcycles. Nada.

2024.05.27 17:16 JesseJ3D Product sourcing and project ideas

Very simple and could use some ideas sourcing a product that may not exist. I want to replace a Florescent bulb that burned out in a Harley-Davidson Clock. I'm using WLED. I need a LED ring similar to a NeoPixel or a way to make one to replace that tube. It needs to be at least 7.75" on the inside radius of the ring. Ideally I would use a little ESP 32 controller. I'm still new to this stuff but am a quick learner. Considering 60 minutes and 60 seconds I would want at least 60 LEDs but would prefer more like 120. Would also be cool to control the LEDs based on the minutes and seconds. I don't know if WLED can do that so any suggestions would be great.

2024.05.27 16:38 kweenwitch Preparing to sell dolls

My aunt passed away a few months ago, she was a huge Barbie collector, and the one who inspired my own collecting. There are over 1,000 dolls, many of which are silkstone and other collector dolls. I have been photographing and cataloging all of them, with the help of a few family members. We aren't ready to sell quite yet, but I was wondering if this sub was an appropriate place to share listings when the time comes. Most of them are NIB or great condition with the box (I think she had them on display at one point, but she kept most of the boxes). I have been taking photos of the boxes (all sides and if they have a "less than x made" sticker), the dolls, detail shots of faces/shoes/accessories, and any damage we saw during the photo session. Each listing will include all of these images for the doll listed (duplicate dolls will all be photographed separately). We will probably not list them all at once, I think the plan is to list them one bin at a time (8-20 dolls at a time) just so we aren't overwhelmed. Is ebay the best place to list collectable Barbies? Are there other photos you would want to see before purchasing? Would listing certain collections together (Harley Davidson, Looney Toons, Scooby-Doo, etc) be more or less appealing to you?

What am I doing wrong?/What is my bike worth?
I've been trying to sell my 1998 xl1200c for a month or so and so far the only interest I've gotten was a guy that wanted to trade a pickup with serious rust issues. I started at $5k asking price, went to 4k for a while, and just lowered to 3k this morning. Title basically says it, am I asking too much or is there something wrong with my listing?
Text from marketplace listing:
"1998 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom XL1200C
20,000 miles! Very good shape for the year! Only selling because I need the cash more than the ride. Comes with original exhaust derby cover, and a repair manual.
The good: Great looking bike, very little rust, starts reliably, sounds awesome, new front brake line/ rebuilt F/R calipers/rebuilt front master cylinder last summer
The bad: the speedometer reads 35 mph all the time (could be a bad speed sensor, haven't had time to diagnose yet, common problem with these bikes). Also, it has an issue with the front brake building pressure and not releasing(I think it could use a new master cylinder).
Not perfect, but a great bike for its age and they're not making them like this anymore!

New to the community
Just completed the MSF course at Harley Davidson and now it's time to get a bike. I've been searching FB marketplace for the last few months and haven't really found any good deals, I might just be too picky idk. A friend has a "basically" brand new 2022 Honda Grom, I would hope to get it for 3.2k if possible. the only issue is I'm 6'4 190. For this reason, I was looking at getting a Ninja 600 or something along those lines I originally wanted a sports bike around 300cc for 2.5-3k, but haven't found any success, what should I do

Looking at used bikes in my area (New Orleans and surrounding areas). I love the look of cafe racers, but don't totally hate some of the crotchrocket looks or the Harley Sportster style?
Don't have a lot of money, likely borrowing some to make this happen. (Had to move into my mom's in the suburbs, need a commuter to be able to get to and from farther potential jobs.)
Are there particular models/brands I should be looking for? Miles ridden on the bike? (Aiming for under $3000, but $4000 might be manageable. Would in fact prefer a more worn look just because I assume it'd be less likely to be stolen?)
((For reference, I see some things in my area recently listed that look cool to me, but my knowledge level is brand-new/none at all:

2024.05.24 18:31 Fit-Number8002 Should I do what I want or listen to my dad??

If you answer anything in the comments, please be completely serious!
For a little background, I am 16 years old and have been riding motorcycles ever since I can remember. Ever since I was probably around three years old, I’ve been on dirt bikes, 4-wheelers, etc. So, I definitely have a solid background when it comes to motorcycles and riding techniques. But this has recently become an issue between me and my dad because my dad is a “die-hard” Harley Davidson fan boy. If you know anything about people like that, they absolutely hate the sport bike scene, even if it has the smallest taste of speed. He absolutely hates it. (I’ve shown him a Ninja 400RR and he called it a “piss missile” even though it does all of 100 mph). But with me also growing up riding dirt bikes and whatnot, I also grew up in the era of the Ghost Rider, if anyone knows who that is anymore. So ever since I could really remember, I’ve always been into sport bikes.
Here within the last year, I was finally able to get my learner's permit, and eventually my license, which included a motorcycle endorsement so I could ride with my father. While searching around for my first motorcycle, I pointed stuff out to him, such as the Ninja 400 and the Yamaha R3 because those bikes are the configuration that I like. They’re not very fast and they're beginner friendly. And trust me, I do have enough money to pay for a brand new one because I have a full-time job (since I was 13 because I was forced to get one).
Out of all the motorcycles I could’ve gotten, especially brand-new motorcycles with warranties and everything, my dad one day finally pointed out a specific Kawasaki enduro type of motorcycle (KLR650), which I told him that I honestly didn’t like because it was really tall, really heavy, and overall an ugly bike in my opinion. Even though I was paying with my own money that I had saved up personally, he forced me to get that motorcycle and nothing else. Finally, over about the span of a year, it seems that I’ve worked my father down about getting the bike that I actually want. Since I’m paying my own insurance, taxes, gas, etc., it doesn’t make sense that I can’t have the motorcycle that I want just because he doesn’t like how it looks.
And by the way, he’s done this in the past. My first ever (larger) dirt bike he got in a trade from a friend of his for free, but he made me work on it and spend about $800 of my own money when I was only about 13 years old just to get the motorcycle repaired and ready to ride on the dirt. Even though I owned it for two years, he never let me actually ride the motorcycle for the entire span of those two years because he “didn’t want me to hurt myself.” So we finally just sold the motorcycle because it was too much of a hassle and had no good purpose, just sitting in the motorcycle shop collecting dust after pouring so much of my own hard-earned money into it. I finally got to ride it one time before it was sold, and that was only the day before it sold. He only wanted me to ride it to make sure it actually ran.
One year he also took my own money and bought me a “present” with it. He bought me some really old beat-up Jeep with a four-cylinder manual engine, which I really wasn’t happy with. I was even more upset about it when I found out that he used my own money to buy it. He used about $2500 of my own money to buy it, but a couple of family members pitched in another thousand dollars or so. It almost feels like he wants to control everything in my life so I don’t make the same mistakes as him. Even though when he was my age, he had sport bikes, Camaros, Corvettes, Porsches, etc. It just seems so hypocritical.
By the way, my mom passed away when I was two years old, so I grew up without a mother figure. And with my dad acting the way that he does, it almost feels like I didn’t have a mother or father. Please let me know what you guys think I should do!

Tldr: my dad forced me to pay $3500 on a motorcycle. I told him I didn’t even like and is now upset due to the fact that I want to sell it.

Vintage Harley Jacket
Hey fellow resellers. I'm a fairly experienced hobby reseller, but am stumped on an item and thought this might be a good place to seek advice. I also put a post out in Harley sub.
I was handed down a Harley Jacket from my mother in law that I've had for over a decade. I believe it is vintage, it's in excellent condition, but when I search serial numbebar code (in photo) I come up with no matching results. I'm guessing by the numbers it could be 1998 or 1992? I just want to be sure I'm assigning a fair value to it if I do decide to finally part with it.
Anyone have experience with motorcycle jackets, leather that might be able to offer any details on it?

Age of Jacket
Hello and apologies if this is not the right sub. My mother in law gifted me a Harley jacket that I've had for over a decade. I am interested in finding it's value but I do not see a tag in the left seam as previous posts have referenced. I do have the serial numbebar code, but came up short in my search. With the numbers in serial thought it could be 1998 or 92 ?
I am not sure how much something like this goes for, it's in excellent condition and is a really cool jacket.
Any guidance or info appreciated!!
