2023.03.24 03:10 pintsizedgamer Need help brainstorming bridal shower game ideas

Hello all,
As the title suggests, I'm looking for some bridal shower games that I could pull from inspiration based on different board games! I have a few of the typical questionnaire-style games but I'm looking to also have some really fun creative games to really bring out the board gamer in me. I'm not planning on having any actual board games at the shower but rather looking to create some fun games inspired by our hobby games. Here's a list of some of the games ideas (excluding standard his/her questionnaire):
I was trying to see if I could do any other spinoffs of party/word games but unsure!
Also I'm trying to create games that would have a clear winner and standardized boards/sheets for convenience of printing as I'll be giving our prizes to game winners!
Really excited and appreciate the help in advance! :)

2022.02.18 06:46 SirVincentMontgomery How do I get started and know I'm going in the right direction? I don't even know if I can get where I want to go with the path that I want to take

TL; DR: I want to learn how to use github and github pages to build small programs that can be used for score keeping games on one screen and showing the results on another.
This is a long one cause I don't know how to explain what I'm after without telling you the whole story. I hope someone takes pity on me and is willing to wade through the rambling!
I volunteer with a youth program and run the tech at the back along with a few other volunteers. In this position we often find ourselves needing to jury-rig a solution to show game scores/countdown timers/etc for events that the youth leaders are having the teens play. I'm frustrated with the leader always calling out from the front "are the scores ready?" and would like to use coding to automate every step in the process that doesn't need to be done in the moment. Things like ranking and rearranging lists, doing math to caculate running scores, turning tables of data into something worth putting on a big screen to show to kids, and creating multiple versions of those graphics-- like progressive reveal first to last place; what each team got as their score for "round 3" and a cumulative total of all the scores up to now.
We often find ourselves scrambling to do the math and deal with all the last minute changes and the output on the screen ends up being just meh (or in a really big scramble we're just handing a scrap of paper to someone to read off on stage). I often think there must be a way to plan out in advance and use code to do what we need to have done and take the stress off in the moment and just be able to have fun. I have *some* understanding of JavaScript (I was super into C++ in high school many years ago, but have lots a lot of it). I've also used excel and powerpoint and google sheets to do some of these sorts of things in the past, and sometimes it works, but I would love to expand my knowledge beyond these products.
I'm hoping that the types of programs I want to build aren't super complex, but complex enough that I can use them to learn how to actually take the bits of stuff I've been learning through tutorials and in neat and tidy settings and actually put it into something that i could use in the real world.
Examples of things we've had to do
My goals:

Questions I have for you:
I guess the biggest thing I need is confidence that I'm headed in the right direction. I feel like on my own I often end up down a google rabbit hole and never really certain if the things I'm reading about can actually even be used (or would be wise to use) to arrive at a finished project.
Thanks for taking the time to listen to my ramblings and thank you to everyone who takes the time to respond.

2022.01.26 03:22 -BakerStreet221B Scattergories - Vague Instructions

Recently purchased Scattergories and believe the included instructions are misleading / vague in comparison to the "original" rules of the game.
I'll add this is not some special themed version, and contains the same scorecards (12 rows, 3 columns) and 20 sided die.

Here are the instructions (verbatim) causing me confusion.
PHASE 1
  1. Roll the die and call out the letter showing.
  2. Flip the sand timer and begin thinking up answers for each category.
  3. Slide the answer sheet into the slot and flip up the top to shield your answers.
  1. When the time runs out, all players must stop writing.
- PHASE 2 - I'll skip this section: Explains how points work (Cancelling duplicates among players etc..)
START A NEW ROUND
Roll a new letter, start the timer, and continue playing. Use the same category list you did in the previous round.
Fill in a different sheet with your new answers.
WINNING THE GAME
After playing two rounds, add up the two scores on your answer sheets. The player with the highest total wins.
If there is a tie, play a third round.

I'm reading this as putting down three multiple answers across the columns for each category. Then, under winning the game, you play two rounds (Two letters would be both sides of the score sheet) and if necessary play a third for ties.

I know the original rules, but doesn't this seem misleading? Or was there a change of rules from the Boardgame Committee?

2019.02.06 21:17 DocGroob Adorable lesbian HONY post

If you feel like saying something to your straight friend, here’s some inspiration to actually do it.
Links to the original posts on Instagram and Facebook for a cute photo, text below:
“We had dorm rooms next to each other freshman year. We mainly just played a lot of board games: Risk, Scrabble, Scattergories, a Trivial Pursuit game from the 1980’s-- which everyone sucked at. But we became best friends, and the next year decided to get a house together. That’s when things started to get tense. We began sitting closer together. We were touching more. We’d play with each other’s hands. Never holding hands-- but playing with hands. And we’d even fall asleep in the same bed together. There was a time that she told me goodnight, and I swear I felt her brush my lips, but by the time I opened my eyes she was out of the room. Neither of us had ever dated a woman. And I was terrified to try anything. We were such good friends. There was always this fear that if I voiced the desire, it would ruin our friendship. But one night we were out for drinks at a hotel where Al Capone used to stay. I was feeling pretty drunk, so I leaned over and said: ‘Sometimes I feel like I want to kiss you.’ And she replied: ‘Sometimes I do too.’ I didn’t say a thing. I wasn’t even sure that I’d heard her correctly. I just kept thinking: ‘Oh my God, it’s happening. It’s happening.’ Then once we finished our drinks, and started walking home, I stopped her in front of a bridge. I said: ‘Shall we do it here?’ It was December 12th, 2002. And even though we got married five years ago, that’s the day we celebrate as our anniversary.”

2015.01.24 19:26 BBtheORGAdmin 47 - You down with POV? Yeah you know me.

Shawn: So I'm moderately concerned with the result of this veto. If Jacob wins it I stand a good chance of going home (my fate would lie probably with Tayla's swing vote, of all things) so I really need literally anyone else to win, including possibly myself. I think I picked diverse enough answers that I'll stand a good chance but I am not so sure on the tie breaker- 7 minutes is a long time, so we'll see. At this point, I'm feeling pretty neutral about the game... the social life of the house has kind of died out at this point so if we're going on, it's usually to talk strategy or make a deal. I'm ready to finish the job here...

POV Competition Week 9: Board Game Family Fun Night!
Yay! Our /BBtheORG family is finally have a fun board game night with POV up for grabs!

What game are we playing this week for Family Fun Night??

Scattergories, of course! For those of you have never played Scattergories...let me give you a rundown of the rules…

Each person will have a list of the same 15 categories. A lettered die will be rolled and reveal the letter for the game. You must list a word for each category that you can within a set amount of time. Each word you write for the categories must start with the letter that was rolled. However, there is a catch. You do not want to list the same word that someone else listed.

Example

Say the letter A was rolled and one of the categories on everyone’s sheet was Nut. If Paul and Julian both write down almond, neither of them receive a point. If Wesley writes down acorn, he gets a point.

Make sense? Great!

Since this is timed, you will have to message mod mail when you are ready to play. You will only be allowed 10 minutes in this competition. You may use the entire ten minutes, but do not go over. The time it takes you to complete the challenge will be used for the tie breaker.

Collaboration is not allowed in this competition, so don’t even think about it.

You have ten minutes….Go!
(You do not need to send in your answers as an image)

Good evening, houseguests!
Wow! What a fun Family Game Night, huh?! I'm so glad we're all taking the time to bond. It's like we never see each other anymore...

OK, well, I guess you're just here to see the POV results, right? I guess we can get to it..

Here is the family scoresheet. Some pretty creative answers, I'd say! You all did a really wonderful job, but as you can see...one of you did the best.

And that person is...Shawn!! Congratulations, Shawn!

Alright...I guess that's it everyone. Well...I miss you guys...we should really do this more often. See ya later!

John: So I invited Shawn into the Triad, so now after all let's take a third shot at the triad. Oh yeah that and my F3 with Aaron and Lilia. So I guess I'm in two final 3's and have a deal with everyone in the house. It could backfire, it really might. Have to take risks though, or what's the point in playing? I know I joke about being Victoria a lot. Anything that will keep me alive, but that helpless in competitions act is over. No more throwing comps for me for the rest of the game. I almost had that PoV this week! Other housemates who have been underestimating my comp abilities better get ready. Soon people will think of me more of a Dan than a Victoria.

Lilia:This week has been so weird. With the game down to just 5 players it is SUPER quiet in the Backyard. Plus, with Jacob being on the block, things have been very awkward between Aaron, Jacob, and I. Aaron's pushing for me to vote for Jacob, same with John. Assuming Tayla will be up on the block, I was hoping both Shawn and Aaron would vote for Jacob, and I could vote for Tayla. This way I could keep Jacob from being upset with me and from feeling like crap that he was going home on a unanimous vote. Shawn says he's voting with the majority. Which is great way of saying, "Hey, I'm a pussy and a floater, let me do what i can do not get blood on my hands." I really really don't want to vote for Jacob. This sucks so much. But if he stays I will lose John and Aaron as allies, and that would not be good.

Shawn: WOOOOOOOOOOO IN THE CLUTCH that's 3 vetoes that I won all by myself and I feel very excellent about it!!!! Let's do shoutouts!!!!!! Shoutout to Mr. Journeay, my high school anatomy teacher for teaching me what a capula is (sorry for getting a C- on your final, I probably should've tried harder), shoutout to Pepsi for making delicious Cherry Pepsi, shoutout to our friends in the south for doing Crawfish boils and shoutout to myself for winning. I'm a star!!!!!!!! In summation: final five, bitchessssssss

Next time on BBtheORG! Will Shawn use the POV on himself? One of the most dastardly plays in BBtheORG history is afoot! Stay tuned next time on BBtheORG!

2014.04.09 21:00 DVDJunky I played Scattergories with my nine year old son.

Thought I'd share a quick story about my son, Ender.
We were having a little get together at my Mom's place. The kids were spending time with their cousins in the basement and the adults were playing scattergories upstairs. Ender decides he wants to join us for a few rounds.
We gave him a card and a sheet so he could play. During one round we have the letter "i". One of the categories asked for "Things you find in a gym/health club". The adults had a few mildly relevant answers, Icy-Hot or something along those lines. My Son came up with the answer of Inability. What an insanely good answer, right?? I loved it. Laughed and told him it was a superb answer and that if I could give extra points for awesomeness I'd owe him some.
Later we had the letter "k". One of the categories was "trees" No one had anything, except Ender. He had Kapok. Yeah, Kapok. We're like "really?" he says "yeah... it's a tree."
My sister grabs her phone and googles it real quick. It's a god damned tree.
