2019.11.01 18:44 PinkStorms Unsolved Detroit Double Murder Mystery of Teague and Troy Orblych
Michael "Teague" Orblych (48) lived in Detroit on the 14800 block of Ashton street near the Southfield freeway with his older brother, William "Troy" Orblych (54), their mother, and their younger brother and sister. Around 11pm February 14th, 2018, Michael's mother arrived at home with groceries that she needed help unloading from the car. Teague and Troy were downstairs with a family friend while their younger siblings went outside to help unload the vehicle.
Suddenly, 2-3 armed men in hoodies and ski masks approached the vehicle, demanding the car keys, which were inside the house. The armed men then forced the two siblings into the back of the house. Once inside, the men pushed down the Orblych's mother and held a gun to her daughter's head and threatened, "If you touch her, we're going to blow her head off!"Noises could be heard from the basement, which prompted the armed men to ask Orblych's mother, "who is in the basement?" to which she replied, "two grown men." Their mother screamed for help and that is when Teague and Troy called 911 and rushed up the stairs. Startled, the armed men began to run out of the house and into the backyard. As they ran away, the assailants fired shots towards the brothers. One shot hit Troy in the chest, killing him in the backyard. Another shot hit Teague, who later passed away as he was taken to a nearby hospital. It is then that the family friend, who was also in the basement, arrived to the scene with a gun of his own. He fired 2-3 times at the assailants, who by this time had reached the street. None of his shots hit the assailants as they fled.
Detroit police believe that this was "a crime of opportunity" and that this family was not specifically targeted in any way. As far as they can tell, nothing was actually taken from the home. Articles conflict with one another as to how many people were in custody for this case. One article claims that police have two men in custody and are seeking a third, while another claims only one person of interest is in custody. I tried digging for more info on this, but all I can find is an article from January 2019 claiming that police are still actively working on the case and seeking an information from the public that could help solve it.My questions are:
- How many people were taken into custody, and where are they now?
- According to a quick Google search, the longest you can be held without a charge for a murder is about 4 days max.
- Why are there so many discrepancies regarding what happened (including how many assailants, how many were caught)?
- Most importantly, who killed brothers Teague and Troy?
Teague was my supervisor at the University of Michigan - Dearborn library, with whom I closely worked. I am deeply saddened that his life was taken this way. He had a passion for helping students, which was a part of his job as a Librarian for over 17 years. A scholarship for U of M has been set up in his memory. He and his brother are greatly missed by many.

2013.08.29 22:28 usnationalistnews Kareem Maluti Cousin and Police; Standoff with Black Youths Ends, after Detroit Home Invasion
August 29, Detroit Michigan (WXYZ) - A police standoff has ended on Detroit's southwest side.
Police say it started before three this morning when a mom, dad, and two little girls got a terrifying shock. Three armed guys suddenly invaded their home.
When police got there the family was being held hostage.
Finally suspects said they would release the 'family. That's when police say a bad guy tried something that probably only works in movies. He pretended to be a hostage.
That suspect was arrested. A second soon surrendered. The third remained holed up in the house.
The sounds of tear gas bombs could be heard going off periodically as police worked to bring the standoff to an end on Central Street near Lafayette.
Police had the house surrounded and the DPD armored vehicle was called in.
After 8 hours of failed negotiations, police used a boom on the armored vehicle to get into the house and arrested the final suspect.
