2024.06.10 05:31 Denpatou Re: OKO, closing of Ah Sing Den

Just got back from their last night of service and our server clued us in on how terribly the owners have managed the transition. According to her, the owners chose not to disclose to their employees their plans to close Ah Sing Den until just days ago, with many of them learning the news from the same Eater article that was posted here earlier this week. Even management wasn’t spared; all of the current FOH employees were laid off and told they would need to reapply for a job at OKO.
It’s a real shame as I thought it was one of the most unique spaces in Austin, can’t think of any others with decor inspired by opium dens. Judging by the rendering on Culturemap, it looks like OKO will feature the same bland modern contemporary aesthetic as many other spaces in Austin. I don’t think I’ll be giving them my business considering the circumstance of Ah Sing Den’s closure.

2024.06.10 05:27 robert_girlyman An OC I just made

Appearance: Zack is about half the size of Valentino with four arms and a small set of bat wings and a larger set of moth wings similar to his father except their inside is a black and white hypnosis swirl pattern while the outside is a black urban camo he has a set of small succubus style horns and 2 antennae.
Abilities: 4 arms, natural charisma, ability to sing, he can channel power to his wings to make them glow in a hypnotic pattern (IRL example being cuddle fish) that can mind control others, ability to produce intoxicating pheromones like his father.
Human Disguise: His human disguise takes the form of a 13 year old white male human with curly brown hair
Backstory: Zack is the 13-16 year old male child of Valentino and Verosika (he was born in hell and was never human) created after a 1 night stand he only ever knew his father and was raised with some broken morality that he fights from overtaking him he also suffers from severe sociopathy (he does not feel empathy) though he can fake emotion well enough his personality is calculated and cold masked normally with confidence in himself and his friends he wears a human disguise out of shame because he knows what his dad does and does not feel like he can show who he really is he also works as a member of the Cleaners (Valentino's escaped employee retrieval service) and normally wears a suit of power armor (the kind from the fallout games) when he is on the job he joined The Hazbin Hotel because his dad told him to get Angel Dust to move back in but when he met Angel they became friends and Zack is just stalling for time
He is straight btw

2024.06.10 04:52 Logical_Computer_633 Does this mean I didn’t get the internship?

Last Saturday I got an email saying I got the internship I applied for, later that day the girl who interviewed me emailed me saying the coordinator of intern was going to send me a bunch of paperwork. On Monday she did and she told me that I needed to also send a verification letter from my school saying that I was going to get credit for my internship as well as my school schedule in order to get my official offer letter. On Tuesday I sent the schedule, but I found out that my school isn’t allowed to send out those verification letters until August because that is a standard process for the school. This is the email I said to the coordinator. “Hello _, Below I have attached my class schedule. Unfortunately I spoke to my department of career and internship services at my college and they told me that they couldn’t give me approval on my internship at this time because my college first requires me to complete an experienced record and have that be approved until I can get a letter that shows that I will receive credit for an internship and unfortunately they told me that the experience records won’t open until end of July. If it’s more convenient at this time I can provide you with a copy of my official transcript where it shows that I will be taking an internship course in the fall. I apologize for this inconvenience I’ve attached my career and internship services email just in case you want to reach out to them for any questions.“ it’s been almost a week and I haven’t gotten an answer.

2024.06.10 04:51 Playful_Journalist72 EEOC Charge

Long story super short, I work for the VA. Didn’t have any issue until 4/2023. A new supervisor started on my shift and made racial remarks that were directed towards a particular ethnic minority. Which is mine. From that forward I was singled out, given more work, than anyone, and supervisors told my co workers to not help or talk to me ( I wasn’t even a new employee) I also have a pretty bad hernia and have a dr note stating no lifting, bending, stooping etc. My supervisors did not care stating the note does not say ‘ you have a hernia’ It states I had to follow the restrictions until I saw the surgeon that still made no difference to my supervisors. My hernia got bigger ( my job is very physically demanding) I filed a formal EEOC complaint and the retaliatory behavior kicked into overdrive. And my supervisor was forcing me off my shift to take an another shift that I could not work ( my kids would be alone ) It was just non stop.Marking me awol when I was at work, so I was not being paid. There was an investigation done in April but the key witness didn’t give the affidavit. I only had one other person give theirs. Everyone else wanted to keep their perks with the bosses On Friday I received a letter stating I could withdrawal the case, have the EEOC do a fast decision or have it go before a AJ with the EEOC. There was no right to sight or anything else. I do have a lawyer. And the ORM thinks I can win this I just want to stay on 3rd and get paid what I’m owed or should my lawyer ask for a settlement?

2024.06.10 04:48 Hcookie44 DON'T ask for full bill change back please.

If you don't work a service job like this you don't understand but (in some situations) you are actively harming the worker if you do the thing where you ask for a full 20 back instead of 19.35 for example. Because the brand of POS system I use, when a customer pays cash you put in the computer what cash they gave to calculate tips AND measure how much is in the register. So at the end of the day when money is taken out of the register to put in a safe, if the money in drawer is below $300, the difference will come out of employee tips. So if a you do an exchange where they get an even bill instead of coin change, the drawer will be off end-of-day and be off. You have both given the employee slightly more work and given a small portion of their money to their employer. Why can't you just take coin change? A majority of people do with no issue. Why do you need a bill amount back to you so badly? Are you too good for a change jar at home? Someone did this to me today at my job with like, nine people waiting in line behind him. Aren't you ashamed? Why are you making other customers pay their fleeting time for your desire for bills, on top of making the worker literally pay instead of just taking the normal fucking change. ONLY freaks do this. They act like the worker is an idiot for trying to say "no" too. I just said that I couldn't and this motherfucker laughs and tries to argue with me about it with a queue waiting behind him. NONE of my friends or family do this. I'm struggling to imagine what kind of guy cares this much about getting $20 back instead of 19.35 that he would make himself the villain of the restaurant to do this.

2024.06.10 04:43 I-Know-Very-Little [NY] Company planning on reducing salary when I leave NYC

I live and work in NYC for an large national company. I plan to move to PA this summer and was informed that the company will reduce my salary based on cost of living or some similar metric.
My issue is that when I joined the company I was residing in PA, and the PA address is in my offer letter. After I signed the offer letter I was deciding weather to relocate to CT, NYC, or stay in PA. I decided to move to NYC while the company was completing my background check, so for my first paycheck my address was NYC.
My issue is that I was not aware that the company adjusts salary based on where the employee moves. Do I have any standing in saying that when I signed the offer letter I resided in PA, my offer letter has the PA address, and therefore my salary should have been increased once I moved to NYC. And therefore when I move back to PA a cost of living adjustment should be made relative to my initial PA address and not my NYC address?

the flying irish, the miami (?) dolphins, and the reason i’m buying cfb25 (madden 24 franchise slow slim)
Slide 1:
After Tua Tagovailoa decided to hang up the cleats due to his brain being pulverized all throughout the 2022 season, the Miami Dolphins were forced to turn to backup QB Mike “GOAT” White for the 2023 campaign. White was unable to recapture the glory he had in his previous stint with the Jets, and the Dolphins put up a miserable 2-15 record, good for dead last in the NFL.
The luck of the Irish was with the Dolphins though, as Dublin born George O’Neil sat waiting for a QB needy team to select him high in the first round like a pot of gold sits at the end of a rainbow. George “The Flying Irish” O’Neil recorded a blazing fast 4.31s (99 speed) 40 in the combine, second only to Devin McDermott out of Eastern Michigan. With legs faster than a speeding Carr and an NFL-ready right arm, O’Neil led Fresno State to a Mountain West championship appearance, and looked to have even more success with his new NFL team.
With the first overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, it was a no brainer: George O’Neil was a Miami Dolphin.
Slide 2:
O’Neil has spent the last several years in America, but his Irish roots remain strong. With how many bombs he threw during the 2024 season, you would think he was a member of the IRA!
5003 passing yards: a rookie record. 46 passing touchdowns: a rookie record. 742 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. Overtime victories. White boy end zone celebrations. The Flying Irish was a South Florida sensation. O’Neil earned a Pro Bowl nod, AFC offensive player of the week (4x), OROY; and became the first rookie since the late Jim Brown in 1957 to take home the MVP award.
The Flying Irish, along with 1000+ yard receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, 1000+ yard tight end Matthew Vogel (taken in the 3rd round), and the thunder and lightning rushing combo of Devin Singletary and Gus Edwards, allowed these Dolphins to bow ride their way into having the most yards of offense in a season in NFL history.
Unfortunately for the Dolphins, their superstar offense was often outmatched by their abysmal, 31st ranked defense. A secondary made up of bonafide stars and veterans made up the 32nd ranked passing defense. From Josh Allen to Trevor Lawrence to Mac Jones, almost every QB that faced this defense put up video game like numbers, a shitty video game at that, yet the only NFL licensed video game on the market. …
The Dolphins finished as a 11-6 6th seed, and got bounced in the wildcard game against the Bengals, 52-30. The Bengals would go onto make the Super Bowl, however, Jalen “Joe Montana” Hurts gave Bengals fans 40 year old flashbacks, denying them of their first ever Lombardi.
Slide 3:
But why am I, sportswriteGM/owneomnipotent overseer of the Dolphins, railing on the Bengals so hard? The Dolphins haven’t won a playoff game since their starting QB was conceived. Everyone in the organization knows this. Head coach Mike McDaniel takes 24 hits from his pen each morning, one for every year it’s been since the Dolphins last playoff win way back in 2001.
George O’Neil knows this too. In spite of his (shitty) video game esque numbers, he’s gathered his fair share of doubters. The Dolphins got swept by the AFC East champion Buffalo Bills, and O’Neil put together an uncharacteristically listless performance in the hostile Cincinnati playoff environment, leaving skeptics pondering if he can win the big games. Regardless, he enters the 2025 season as a consensus top 8 QB in the league, and he’s looking to prove that his rookie season wasn’t just due to Irish luck. And with a new defensive coordinator picked fresh from the INSERT NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS HEAD COACH HERE tree, the Dolphins D is looking to have a bounce back season. If they don’t, I’ll never play this stank ass video game again.
But the Dolphins have a bit more to worry about than playoffs Jim Mora voice. Sea levels are rising more rapidly than predicted in Miami. It is completely possible that the entire metropolitan area will be almost completely flooded in the coming years. The Dolphins, in their 65th year of loyal service to the pro football fans of southern Florida, are seriously considering relocation. But, the dolphins have a certain franchise qb, with a certain connection to a certain city, that might make relocating not so bad after all…

2024.06.10 04:35 TheBrownRanger5 AITAH for wanting to break up with my girlfriend?

Long post, also Some things may seem like random pieces of information but it ties together I swear:
I have known my girlfriends brother in law since 6th grade (more than 10 years), didn't even know my girlfriend existed until right before we met. Her older sister and my friend came to visit, I was on my way out of active Mil service a few months later and that was around the time we met and started dating. My girlfriend and I have been together coming up on 2 years soon. We clicked really quickly and had somewhat of a "long distance" relationship for the first year, she was living with a friend about 2.5 hours away. Last year during the summer her friend/roommate was getting married and intending on moving so my girlfriend then moved in with me.
EARLY into the relationship we were comfortable enough to have discussions my career goals following the MIL and the possibility of moving out of the current area and where I wanted to move and always asked for her input, she said "I'll go where you go" FFWD a little I drop my applications for these jobs which are more GOV positions in fields I have interest in and my job in the mil sort of related to, but have notoriously long applicant timelines, I picked a few site locations in the application process after asking for input and she said she didn't care where we go. Got my offer letter with a location I even changed my mind about that location but knowing I can drop a location change after my 2nd year in didn't mind it too much.
FFWD again to last Thanksgiving her parents are staying with us, her dad is in Hospice, his timeline goes from Months to years to, months to weeks. Her mom is crazy, narcissistic and greedy as hell, a witch of a woman. Christmas comes along her sisters and their families are staying with us and her dad, not her crazy ass mom, I get contact about my application, I'm cleared and can pick from my locations I put down during the very very beginning of the applicant process but no other locations outside of that. I pick a location from the list because i thought we were on a time crunch but the person calling was not the point of contact for the final job offer just the middle person between that last step. I go home and tell my GF about it and let her know i have time to pick was up front about how i handled things, apologized for jumping on it without talking to her first, and let her know i want to talk about her preference, she avoids it for 3 days (during new years weekend) she literally did everything she could to avoid the conversation because she was that frustrated about it and my intent on picking that location (be close to her twin who struggles financially and wants to get into law enforcement) I also have family in the area, and it's a nice area.
Side note, we both have struggled religiously for some years but since I am friends with her big sisters husband (5 hours north of our current house) we would take trips up there on long weekends and she has gotten back into it and become more devoted to it. She likes her sisters church so much (back in her home town) she was going almost every weekend up there to spend the weekend there for that church.
Back on track, we are on our way to church that weekend and she just says my currently chosen office location, (no context to the previous conversations) just states the location randomly from the list, somewhere i have wanted to live since before meeting her, but still I'm confused as hell because it was just that random. After some questioning, we get on track her terms are she has to fly out to see her family at least every 3 months.... ok, doable I guess. A few weeks pass, alot of things go down (her mom shows how truly evil and bitchy and greedy she is as her dad is on his death bed) and her dad dies the same week i am supposed to go fly out to my office location before they send me to school. School is around 5-6 months long of school for this civilian position I delay report date for a few days, (have to go to the office, meet the the rest of my co-workers, then they fly me out to school) for the funeral. On our way back home before i leave to the office, she beats around the bush for a few minutes before we get to the point of she doesn't want to go to the location SHE picked with me and we are going to do long distance because she is going to her home town and we will do long distance until i can request a transfer. (My job has a location about an hour and a half away from her hometown) either way alot of our more intense debates since then have been about the move, I want her to come with me, I intended on proposing but with all of the constant arguments and everything else thatchas happened i put that on the backburner. Her excuse from the beginning was "god is calling me there" can't really argue that ok but you can go there just not right now, give it 2-3 years and we will go together, I want to do life TOGETHER, no budge. So I try to bring it up over weeks trying to figure out how to get her to come with me, I am willing to change locations from a state I have wanted to move to (that she picked from the list) since before I met her to go where she wants to go. I go to the job site, I go through the formalities, and turns out the school is 45 minutes away from the house and for the first few weeks as I am home for the weekend she goes to church up in her home town, again that's 5 hours away. 3 months for the part 1 of the school and 2 months for the second part in another state further away and 1 week to move to the chosen location (14,000 miles away) once I finish school, so of course as I am trying to keep it together and spend time with her. My first weekend back i get time off and she goes to that church instead, says she signed up to serve there and that's the same as a job. Alot of the initial conversations about this were me saying she can get the same ministry opportunities in the church close by and even in a church out at that job site location where my job is sending me until we can transfer and her reply being "you didn't grow up religiously so you don't understand" or "you don't have a relationship with God so you don't understand" "why can't you just support me/be happy for me," she did apologize and said she didn't mean it like that and says she supports me in what I do, but her home area is the only place she feels called to a d doesn't feel like i'm supporting her at all. What made me feel horrible is even when I made the decision for myself to follow God and get baptized she was conflicted between going to the birthday for the church in her home town and coming to my baptism which is a big step for me. She came to the baptism but i still felt like she wanted to be there more. If it wasn't for my family coming to visit she would have driven up there that friday for their birthday celebration on that saturday and driven back that saturday. She doesn't feel like she wants to go anywhere else but that one place, like she won't get the same opportunities for ministry and this is her only chance, and I am the one who has to compromise because that's the only place for her, but I know different opportunities from my job, once I finish school, can have me moving across the country to different locations to work with other sections and I feel like she would just be in the mindset of, ok go ahead and go we can just do long distance again until you can transfer back. Last time I tried to ask her to come with me and be patient her reply was "so you get what you want and I have to give up my opportunities?" Which I felt was an immature answer. I am also in the Reserves so after this primary job schools I am switching jobs in the Reserves from what I was doing on active duty so stressing about that, getting the house ready to be a rental property (I pay all the bills) move 2 vehicles, and find a place in the new area so alot of stress right now. AITAH for wanting to end the relationship? I feel like we're just being pulled too far in completely opposing directions.

Associate position in BCG for international student
Hi everyone I have a question which I had posted few months ago but unable to get a satisfactory response. So I apologise if it seems annoying.
Question MBB has dedicated entry scheme for STEM PhD for the position of consultant and Non mba master for the position of associate ( if one have the required skills).
I am an international student pursuing my MS in Horticulture science at University of Florida but on my work visa ( OPT and STEM OPT ) the rule says that i need to work in a job which is directly related to my major.
I really wanted to apply for the associate position in BCG but constantly getting demotivated because of this rule. My primary reason is that I am unable to find person who shared a similar background as mine so that I can follow his / her path.
I know that in BCG also they have agriculture related projects but not sure if it can qualify the OPT and STEM OPT rule.
I am working on machine learning and Artificial intelligence in my research project and I am upbeat about my ability for data analysis , communication and can devote lots of time in preparation for case studies and McKinsey excel games. I have around 1 year 4 months in my hand before I complete my MS.
Here are my 4 request to this community
Queries -
  1. Can you connect me with someone with a similar background ( I am already trying on linkedin) so that I can sort my visa issues out.
  2. Do BCG help in drafting offer letters in which they can highlight jobs and responsibilities related to major field of study so that employee can get their work visa or they are extremely strict about it ?
Suggestions
  1. Another path that I can follow is to get my job which is related to my major and then apply for BCG Offices in Dubai for the position of an associate but I heard that it is extremely competitive to get into dubai office as everyone wants to move to dubai. So I am not sure if that risk is worth taking.
Note : I have very simple option to get a phd position in University of florida but I am attracted towards business and consulting and that's why I am trying to get into BCG. Even if I do Phd I will face similar kind of question ( OPT and STEM OPT ) after my Phd so thinking to solve these at an early stage.
Thank you

2024.06.10 04:33 baccaratsitewin01 LOTO-QUEBEC employee accepts new collective contract terms

On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, Roto-Québec informed the local public that the conflict with professional staff has now been resolved. Crown Corporation reported that protesting experts agreed to the recently proposed terms and ratified the new deal. It's essentially ending the general strike and getting back to work. 에볼루션 바카라사이트
A total of 455 professionals from the Royal Family went on strike in September complaining about their contract status. Workers represented by the Quebec government's professional ethos have already rejected a principled agreement between the union and the royal family, but the situation has now been resolved.
Rotto-Québec announced that the conflict with protesting professional employees had been resolved, and according to Crown Agency, 455 professional employees approved a deal recently agreed in principle with the SPGQ union, with 96% of union members voting in favor, so most employees thought it was acceptable.
In the coming weeks, the royal administration and the union will reveal more details about the new collective agreement, which, according to current information, will run until December 31, 2027. The settlement of the dispute between the two sides allowed 455 workers to return to their respective positions on Wednesday, allowing the monarchy to return to its normal working style.
Employees who went on a general strike this month were in charge of information technology, telecommunications, procurement, sales, marketing, finance, real estate and legal services, and as mentioned earlier, negotiations between employers and representative unions were agreed.
Lydia Mattel, vice president of SPGQ, noted that one of the main reasons members rejected the terms was the proposal for an annual salary increase. She explained that the 2% salary increase initially offered felt like a slap on the face to employees because it was not close enough to fight current inflation.
As the strike ended, the Crown Corporation announced that new and updated versions of Lotto 6/49 could also be purchased in the province, and the general strike prevented the owner from releasing new products, omitting the first draw for two new products and temporarily suspending ticket sales.
However, the new offer is now available in the state and tickets can be purchased for the next draw on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. At a price of C$3 per ticket, locals can now participate in the draw to win a classic draw, along with numerous second prizes, or win one of the guaranteed Gold The Ball draws to replace the previous C$1 million guaranteed draw.

2024.06.10 04:24 theinternetscaresme_ Urgent — Important question

I have a strong suspicion that a relative of mine is lying about the type of service and assignments he did while serving for the USMC.
Said person was enlisted for 4 years ‘93-‘97 — these dates are reflected on the DD-214 that I have a copy of.
The DD-214 that I have shows only one MOS - unit diary clerk, and nothing under awards or education that would indicate anything further than bootcamp training — nothing listed under foreign service, and nothing listed under sea service — only one contract no extensions, only one discharge.
Said person is claiming that he has 2 DD-214’s one from CA & one from Kansas City & the one from KC has an NDA that is attached to it hiding/classifying the stuff he claims he did over sea’s.
How accurate is this… I’m feeling like it’s a total lie, but I’m a civilian so I don’t know what’s accurate or not.
I am next of kin so I have legal access to this DD-214, but some questions were asked during a benefits meeting that raised some concerns I have.
Thanks for your help and most importantly thank you for your honorable service and sacrifice

2024.06.10 04:18 bigattichouse Llama-Zip may allow recovery of complete training articles.

I submitted an "issue" on git hub.. but accidentally discovered a nice feature of llama-zip. ( github: https://github.com/AlexBuz/llama-zip localllama discussion: https://www.reddit.com/LocalLLaMA/comments/1d9z8ly/llamazip_an_llmpowered_compression_tool/ )
Been fascinated by the idea of LLM based lossless compression, and was trying to figure out a compressed model (which I now think won't work), BUT I discovered a nice little feature... extracting training data.
This isn't necessarily a problem, but might prove an interesting way to have the model dump/recover large portions of its training data, Putting in arbitrary values:
Entering a string allows for compression llama-zip ../../gguf/Meta-Llama-3-8B-Instruct-Q8_0.gguf -c "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog."
Outputs hoDQrHQThQ
Which can be decoded: llama-zip ../../gguf/Meta-Llama-3-8B-Instruct-Q8_0.gguf -d "hoDQrHQThQ"
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
If you arbitrarily change the string to something else (say, remove th beginning "h", or changing a later letter), you get some interesting results. Some strings are similar (if only a few words changed), but just putting something random in there gets really interesting:
llama-zip ../../gguf/Meta-Llama-3-8B-Instruct-Q8_0.gguf -d "a"
Essentially, I asked it to decode the compressed content for the letter "a", and received an entire source article. This worked for several arbitrary strings. (also by removing the first letter) seems to allow you to pull entire training datasets out of LLMs. It will just repeat the entire source article.
I see this as a feature. It would be great to try and figure out what the "key" is to unlock an article, as it would be an amazing "wikipedia on disk" sort of thing... or even a modified version of RAG without actually requiring an external database.
How do I get back from Sam Smith to 'a' and query it? That could make hallucinations a thing of the past, if the model could recover entire memories within itself.
See the output below: ``` Samantha "Sam" Smith is a renowned British singer-songwriter, singer, and top liner. 2024.06.10 03:59 Playful_Journalist72 EEOC Charge

2024.06.10 03:59 troutdogs Terminated for smoking weed

I know the title sounds bad but hear me out. I was working when my coworkers screamed at me for not doing something when there was 6 other people who could have done the job, and my hands were so visibly dirty and needed washed. I was crying due to being screamed at and also sad from childhood doh passing and I’ve been not mentally great the past little bit.
My coworker “saw” me smoking weed on my break and told our supervisor, I was then suspended without given a reason and told to go to human resources for a meeting 4 days later. I go to my meeting and explain yes I was smoking weed (was told they SHOULD give me help as it is an addiction) then HR told me I was never going to change my habits and they don’t believe me. Then said I’m fired. I then get my termination letter which states my eyes were red and glossy (from crying) and my demeanor had changed as it does feel shitty getting yelled at all the time. (Was not told this information in meeting) I explained that I am currently 4 days sober (now 10), that I am Really trying to change (yes I am trying so hard) and they said no big deal as it was patient care service. It literally wasn’t because after that break we don’t see patients for around 3 hours after. (I am not a nurse, I worked in the food service) I then brought up the doctor who SA us and many other women I work with.
Is there anything I can do? I had a union rep there who did jack shit for my case.
