2024.06.10 16:14 pedrulho CMV: Comparing food descriptors to slavery is ridiculous!

The following critique is of this article.
If someone from a community tells you something is problematic, then it is. Full stop. If you aren’t from that community, then you do not have the knowledge to challenge them on their words.
So basically if someone tells me im wrong i should just shut and deal with it and if im not part of that community them i should not say what I think.
The article is basically saying because im not a part of the community then everything I say is automatically wrong by default and i shouldn't speak my mind.
Absolute nonesense
It really isn’t the place of a white person to write a story of how a Black person experiences racism in the world. It’s just not. Not only because someone who’s never experienced racism can’t truly understand it, but also because it is not the dominant group's place to tell that story, and it’s definitely not their place to make money off that story.
Avoid cultural appropriation: Don’t appropriate cultures that don’t belong to you. Don’t try to write about the experiences of people of communities you don’t belong to. As a general rule, it’s okay to include people of color in your stories—and you should!—but don’t try to write about the struggles people of color experience if you aren’t a part of that community.
So basically if a person is not BIPOC than they are forbidden of writting their fictional stories and share their opinions and how they see things from their perspective. What's the point of fanfiction and literature in general then?
Words like cocoa, chocolate, coffee, caramel lead to fetishization of people of color. It implies the ability to consume them—something that has happened figuratively through colonization and slavery for centuries.
What? This is reaching of the highest degree, seeing someone describe a BIPOC with food and then automatically making connections to slavery is absolutely ridiculous. At this point people are just seeing what they want to see and whay they want is a reason to be offended.
Additionally, using food to describe darker skin tones reduces people to a single physical characteristic, rather than recognizing them as multi-dimensional human beings. It objectifies and dehumanizes people of color by treating them as nothing more than a skin color rather than complex and individual individuals.
If the story makes a good job at giving that character interesting characteristics like personality and his actions are meaningful to the story then i don't think using food as reference to describe skin color is going to take away from everything else and if it does for someone else than it's on the reader for ignoring those other aspects of the character.
And finally, using food to describe darker skin tones is also problematic because it implies that there is something inherently wrong or undesirable about darker skin tones.
How? Where is the implication?
Don't ask BIPOC to educate you
There are countless resources online, like this one, where you can research this yourself. That’s because it’s exhausting for BIPOC to always be the “teacher” when it comes to these issues, especially when there are plenty of resources where you can find the information on your own. Once you’ve done your own thorough and thoughtful research and you have questions, there are additional resources you can use to get those answers. (More on this below.)
Hire a sensitivity reader: Get professional feedback from people who belong to the communities you’re writing about. This can help identify any problematic or offensive elements in your writing and can also provide valuable insights and perspectives that can help to make your characters more authentic and well-rounded. You can also join the group Writing with Social Awareness, where members of various marginalizations are willing to help you navigate the complexities of writing these characters.
The article cannot make up it's mind if the writter should seek help from the community he's writting about or not.
Words like cocoa, chocolate, coffee, caramel lead to fetishization of people of color. It implies the ability to consume them—something that has happened figuratively through colonization and slavery for centuries.
Words You Can Use
We talked about not using food to describe characters of color. And of course, avoiding harmful stereotypes. So what words can you use? While this is, of course, not an exhaustive list, this can hopefully get you started.
Camel Chestnut Honey Oak Walnut Wheat
The article says it's wrong to use food as a decriptor for skin color and gives examples of words it's correct to use and what are those examples, above are a few of them and guess what, the list not only includes food like "walnut" but also includes animals like "camel" and a tree like "oak"
This article is contradicting nonesense that uses the "you are not part of the community" as an excuse to disregard and ignore any critisms.

2024.06.10 15:58 eable2 Someone asked for a Metrobus tier list. Turns out WMATA already makes them!

Someone asked for a Metrobus tier list. Turns out WMATA already makes them!
OK, not exactly, but close enough.
Every year, WMATA publishes an Annual Line Performance Report, a giant PDF full of detailed data on every Metrobus route. The most recent edition is here, and is based on service provided in April 2023 and data from July 2022-June 2023.
The report is very cool but is a bit unwieldy, so I summarized the data in two tier lists below that might be more internet-friendly.

BACKGROUND: Line Classification

To understand the tier lists below, it's first important to note how WMATA classifies bus lines. These are outlined in the 2020 bus service guidelines, but to summarize: each route has a Service Class and Activity Tier (not to be confused with tiers in the lists below).
Service Classes include:
  • Bus rapid transit (currently only MW1)
  • Framework (backbone service travelling along major corridors)
  • Coverage (service that goes deeper into neighborhoods or commercial districts, often providing connections to other lines/modes
  • Commuter (connect residential areas or park and rides to areas of high employment density during peak periods)
Activity Tiers describe levels of density and transit demand. Service is categorized into 3 tiers, from Tier 1 (most dense) to Tier 3 (least dense). Note that 21C doesn't have an assigned tier for some reason.
I've used colors and edge designs in the tier lists below to indicate how routes are classified:
Legend
It's also important to note that WMATA's definition of a line is different than that of a route. A line can be made of up several routes that run along the same corridor. For example, the 14th Street Line includes both the 52 and the 54, which combined was the highest ridership line during the study period, even though I believe the X2 was the individual route with the highest ridership.
Okay, enough preamble.

TIER LIST #1: Line Benefit Score

The Line Benefit Score assesses a line’s relative contribution to the bus network. It's based on three equally-weighted factors:
  • Ridership: Total average weekday ridership.
  • Population served: This depends on the line's Service Class.
    • BRT and Framework: Total population within 1/2 mile of a stop
    • Coverage: Low-income and zero-car population within 1/4 mile of a stop
    • Commuter: Labor force within 1/4 mile of an origin stop during morning peak, or within 1 mile of a park and ride.
  • Network value: This has three subcomponents.
    • Transfers: Number of transfers to Metrorail, Metrobus, and Circulator. (Note that this artificially favors DC.)
    • Unique Segments: Percent of ridership that is not on segments shared by other lines.
    • Access to Destinations: Number of jobs served.
The final score is a relative measure; it compares each bus line to the rest of the bus lines. The scores theoretically range from 1 to 100, but end up ranging from 3-76. While I've put them in tiers below, they are also sorted in descending order within each tier.
Line Benefit Scores

TIER LIST #2: Performance Report Card

The bus service guidelines detail numerous benchmarks that a line should meet based on its Service Class and Activity Tier. Metrics include:
  • Hours of operation and frequency
  • Stops per mile
  • Circuity (i.e. how direct is the route)
  • Passengers per hour and per mile
  • Unique segment ridership
  • On-time performance
  • Crowding
  • Cost recovery and cost per trip
The final grade is from A-E (though no route receives an overall grade of E). Unlike the tier list above, these grades are not relative. Within tiers, I've sorted by ridership in descending order.
Performance Report Card
If you're curious about a particular line, definitely check out the report for yourself. It breaks down each of the components in more detail.

EDIT: These rankings matter!

The metrics that I've outlined above are not just WMATA playing around with data. These are the metrics that WMATA uses to plan bus service changes, including the Better Bus Network Redesign. If you're wondering why they've proposed to change a given route, the linked report might provide some insight, whether or not you agree with their methodology.
Hope you found this interesting, and thanks for indulging in my transit nerdery!

2024.06.10 15:05 artofPreparation "Indeed, the Orion group have a desire to exert influence over your planet, and this desire continues to the present day." : Q'uo, 2023

G Yes, Q’uo, I first want to thank you for all the wisdom you’ve given to me and my friends through your communications. My question, I think, fits in well with the previous question. It has to do with the influence of the Orion group.
In the Ra contact, #7.14, an example was given of the Orion group’s influence on Adolf Hitler. Ra said the intention was to unify by choosing an elite from the social memory complex known as the German people, and then enslaving those who are not in the elite. Many people, including myself, see a similar process taking place at the present time. Those who would be in the elite, such as the one called [names] and others tell those who are not in the elite to “own nothing and be happy.” They want to have us eat bugs and track our movements with digital IDs. To what extent is this the work of the Orion group? And I might add, to what extent is this the work of the Orion group, or does this have to do with what you discussed earlier about the transition from Mars to Earth and the bellicosity that had to be worked on at that time. Is it of that also? Whatever the cause is, what can we, the students of love and light and service to others, do to stop it or reduce it? Thank you.
We are Q’uo, and are aware of your query, my brother. We find that, in responding to this query, there is some untangling and detachment that we must do before we may speak to the essence of the query. We, the Confederation of Planets in the Service of the One Infinite Creator, in our interactions with your planet and through groups such as this who receive our thoughts and transmit them vocally, cannot speak with confidence and in honor of free will to specifics about [living] individuals and their actions upon your planet. This would allow our words to influence groups such as this and those who read our words to form opinions that we find would be inappropriate for our guidance of groups such as this. However, we may speak more generally to the essence of your query having to do with what you have described as a perception of an increase of these energies that you have identified as being similar to those influences of the Orion group upon the individual known as Adolf, and the rise of a particular form of authoritarianism that came through this individual and his leadership.
Indeed, the Orion group, just as us of the Confederation, have a desire to exert influence over your planet, and this desire continues to the present day. And the unique energies present upon your planet during this time of transition from third density to fourth density allow for quite a potent and unique opportunity for both of these groups to interact with your planet. The advent of fourth-density energies creates a certain transparency within the self that we find has become difficult for your populations to grapple with, shall we say, in a direct sense. And thus, this has generated much catalyst both in personal ways and in interpersonal ways and particularly upon a global, political-social scale.
We find that touching upon the specific dynamics present within this would be impossible for us, for we cannot describe or even perceive the very specifics of these distortions as they play out. However, we can perceive that these energies offer an opportunity and a potential for greater polarization, and this opportunity becomes a sort of invitation for influence from outer sources such as the Orion group and us of the Confederation.
We encourage you, as you examine these energies that you perceive playing out on a cultural and social-political scale, to reflect first internally upon what is being perceived. Our ever-present message that we wish to base our entire sharing with you upon is that all is one; that there is nothing that happens that is not of the Creator upon your planet, upon any planet, or within any iota of the creation. The implication of this statement is that what happens, in what you perceive as the external world of your perception lives present within you, and the energies that you perceive as being of negative nature are of the Creator as well. The potential for the energies exist within each individual, whether they have chosen the positive path, the negative path, or are attempting to choose one or the other as they shift within the sinkhole of indifference.
It is essential that this internalization take place for each positive seeker, for the best attempt one can make to address such dynamics as they play out upon your planet must be based within love and acceptance, and this love and acceptance can only be found if one recognizes the unity between the self and the other-self that one perceives as operating in these nefarious ways.
We suggest that this is a preliminary or prerequisite practice to attempting to address such dynamics on an external level. For to look first outside without working on the self will encourage distortion within the self, and risks the separation of the self with other-self instead of the unification of self with other-self. This would exacerbate the energies, as you perceive them, and create less opportunity for an external, harmonious resolution to what we understand seem to be troubling developments within your society.
Further, we encourage that as one views particular individuals or, shall we say, targets as being responsible for and encouraging these more authoritarian elitist energies that are growing upon your planet, to consider that their unique distortions may or may not allow for the Orion group to have direct influence over them. There are energies present within your culture that may explain the behavior, the desire to mold society in a certain way that may not be, as you were described, negative, but perhaps can be perceived that way.
This is an important distinction, as it is true that the Orion group exerts influence over individuals, particularly those who wield power within your society and who have desires for a more service-to-self oriented philosophy to prevail on your planet. However, these individuals typically, in our perception, operate in ways that they are not easily perceived and would not allow themselves to become the targets of such perceptions, for it is a much more wise move [for] a legitimately and powerful service-to-self entity to shield themselves from such criticism and such perception.
This brings us to a final point we may make in our suggestions on how to relate to such energies of you have described, and that is to release an attachment to any, shall we say, sure knowledge or confidence in exactly what is happening upon your planet, and instead surrender to the light and love of the One Infinite Creator. If you allow this light and love to move through you and dedicate yourself to sharing it with your world, you will be moved in such a way as to influence and to exist within your culture in a way that will indeed reverberate from the lowest levels to the highest levels of your social and political hierarchies, so that the advancement of such elitist and authoritarian energies may be quelled, or shall we say, lose its energy and momentum upon meeting the energy that you are offering to your society.
This may indeed move you, at certain points, to act in ways to seemingly combat such advancement, but we encourage you to always question your perceptions and question whether or not you are truly perceiving other-selves with clear eyes offered by the love and the light of the One Infinite Creator. Or if within any other-self you’re perceiving, there is a reflection that is being asked to be addressed within yourself. And continually, day by day, moment by moment, attempt to address these reflections and utilize them for the opportunities that they represent, as catalyst that may bring you closer and closer to the One Infinite Creator through an open heart and an open mind.

2024.06.10 12:11 Purpledoogle Clarifications about Salvation's Edge Verity (4th Encounter), Inside Symbol Swaps and Dissection

A lot of people are (understandingly) asking a lot of questions about this encounter, and having spent a ton of time on contest using guides with incomplete info, I'm hoping I can clear some things up, provide a set of instructions, and make some people's time easier. This is not a full guide, but is intended to help you understand the what and why of symbol swaps and dissection. The focus here is not on brevity, but clarity.

Terminology

Defining a few things here again just to help with clarity.
Symbol/Shape
Inside Team/Player
Outside/Dissection Team
Base Symbol
Ghosts
God RNG
Consolidation

Inside Team Goals/Mechanics

Goal of the inside team is to get the two shapes that are NOT being held by their statue. These will match with the 3d shape that outside team creates on your statue through dissection.

IMPORTANT MECHANICS OF INSIDE SYMBOLS

Inside Symbols Swapping Explanation and Examples

Note that there are 3 different "permutations" of symbols that can happen. I'll refer to these as "Normal", "Single God RNG", and "All God RNG".

The first explanation is using the "Normal" where no player starts with duplicate symbols.

1.1 Initial Callouts

Once teleported in, all inside players should check their shadow wall/statue to determine which symbols they need. They should then type those symbols in chat, both for each other and for the outside team. Format is up to you/your team, my team when with typing their Base Symbol first, followed by a space, followed by the other symbol their wall displayed.
Example of callouts:
Player 1:T C
Player 2:S T
Player 3:C S

1.2 Consolidation

Once callouts are made, inside players will Consolidate so that each player has 2 symbols that match their Base Symbol. Each inside player will kill their knights and send the second symbol they typed to the person who has that as their first/base symbol.
Example Consolidation
Player 1 sends their Circle to Player 3
Player 2 sends their Triangle to Player 1
Player 3 sends their Square to Player 2

1.3 First Swap

Once all players are Consolidated, each player will then send their base symbol (the only symbols they have) to the the player that typed their base symbol second during initial callouts.
Example First Swap
Player 2 typed T in their second column, so Player 1 will send Triangle to Player 2
Player 3 typed S in their second column, so Player 2 will send Square to Player 3
Player 1 typed C in their second column, so Player 3 will send Circle to Player 1
At some point during the First Swaps, Ghosts phase will happen. If you picked up a symbol and it happens, you'll still have it when the phase ends. Be aware some thralls will probably be waiting to say hello.

1.4 Second Swap

After inside players have all done First Swap, each player will then send their base symbol to the person they did NOT give their base symbol to during First Swap.
Example Second Swap
Player 1 sent T to Player 2 during First Swap, so Player 1 will send T to Player 3
Player 2 sent S to Player 3 during First Swap, so Player 2 will send S to Player 1
Player 3 sent C to player 1 during First Swap, so Player 3 will send C to Player 2

1.5 Collection

Once all inside players have finished their second swap, inside players should kill their Knights, and collect the two symbols. If swaps are done correctly if should give you a buff referring to the 3d shape that does not contain your base symbol. Once outside team is finished dissection, run through the broken glass leading back towards where rally flag was dropped. Kill adds/unstops, do the 5 man ghosts phase and run it back. There's a small window of time after ghosts and before next inside team is chosen to collect ammo and clealine break chat.

Permutation: Single God RNG

Swaps are slightly different with a single God RNG. Players 2 and 3 will be doing the majority of the swaps, since Player 1 does not need to consolidate, and doesn't have to worry about the order they send their symbols to Players 2 and 3. Player 1 should wait until Players 2 and 3 have finished consolidation and first swap, to avoid losing a symbol.

1.1 Initial Callouts - Single God RNG

Example Callouts - Single God RNG
Player 1: T T
Player 2: S C
Player 3 :C S

2.2 Consolidation - Single God RNG

Player 1 does not need to consolidate, since they started with both their base symbols. Players 2 and 3 will consolidate, sending the other persons base symbol to them.
Example Consolidation - Single God RNG
Player 1 does not send any symbols
Player 2 sends their Circle to Player 3
Player 3 sends their Square to Player 2

2.3 First Swap - Single God RNG

Once consolidated, Players 2 and 3 must send their base symbols to each other, so that they get rid of their original symbols during their final swap.
Example First Swap - Single God RNG
Player 1 does not send any symbols
Player 2 sends their Square to Player 3
Player 3 sends their Circle to Player 2

2.4 Second Swap Part 1 - Single God RNG

Once Players 2 and 3 have exchanged symbols again, Player 1 will one of their symbols to Player 2, and the other to Player 3.
Second Swap Part 1 - Single God RNG
Player 1 sends Triangle to Player 2, then sends Triangle to Player 3
Player 2 does not send any symbols
Player 3 does not send any symbols

2.4.5 Second Swap Part 2 - Single God RNG

Once Player 1 has sent their symbols, Players 2 and 3 will each send their base symbol to Player 1.
Second Swap Part 2 - Single God RNG
Player 1 does not send any symbols
Player 2 sends Square to Player 1
Player 3 sends Circle to Player 1

2.5 Collection

All inside players should have their correct symbols, kill Knights, collect both your symbols and run through the glass/wait on dissection team to finish.

Permutation - Triple God RNG

This is the easiest set and probably doesn't warrant writing it out like the previous sets, but I'm gonna do it anyway for consistency's sake.
The main difference is that the consolidation step does not need to be done, because Bungie did it for you. You also don't need to worry about sending someone back their own symbol, since each single player needs a symbol from both other players.

3.1 Initial Callouts - Triple God RNG

Triple God RNG will be obvious once two inside players make their callouts. Third should still send theirs for outside team's sake.
Initial Callouts - Triple God RNG
Player 1:C C
Player 2:S S
Player 3:T T

3.2 First Swap - Triple God RNG

Inside team should coordinate which direction, left or right, they are going to send their symbols to first. This is to avoid a scenario where two players send a symbol to the same person before said person is able to send a symbol themselves, resulting in a symbol getting lost.
For example, if the team chooses left as the first direction, each player will send their symbol to the statue that is to the left of their own, when looking at the shadow/projector wall. Right statue player would send to middle, middle would send to left, and left would wrap around and send to right.
If right is chosen, left sends to middle, middle sends to right, right sends to left

3.3 Second Swap - Triple God RNG

Inside players will now need to send their base symbol in the opposite direction they coordinated to send during first swap.
If left was the first direction coordinated to send in, now inside players will be sending right and vice versa

3.4 Collection - Triple God RNG

Once all players have finished second swap, kill knights, collect the two symbols, and walk through the run through the glass/wait for dissection team to finish.

Swap Matrices

Here I'm going to put up some grids that show what's happening with the symbols during/after each swap "phase" as I've written out. These show the more of the "why" of each swap is happening. Each one will have the example and step number next to it to help you understand what's going on, but if you think you understand just from what's above, run it and find out if you got it. I'm putting this here because it's how I was able to make it click, so hopefully someone else will find it useful, but it may just as well confuse you.

Each abbreviated symbol will have a superscript number on it, either a 1 or a 2 (e.g. T1 , T2). This is to signify that these are, internally in the game logic, different symbols and is related to above in the symbol mechanics where I said "The symbols remember who started with them".
The long and short of it is this; Let's say you start with your base symbol being Triangle(T1), and you have a Circle(C1). You need the combined Square and Circle shape to leave. But you can't use C1 because it started with you. You need to send C1 to the other person who needs a Circle, and receive C2.

The top left will display which step would have just been completed. Symbols start at the bottom of a player's "stack" when they are received, and move up the "stack" as other symbols are sent away. This is the "First in Last out" system.
UNCONFIRMED I believe the stack order affects what order the Knights drop their symbols in, but I haven't done or seen any testing to truly confirm this. Use caution if relying on this to go fast.

Swappable symbols are abbreviated. An empty slot means there is no symbol.
Bracketed text is altered from the original to reflect the change in presentation.

Normal Matrix

1.1 Initial Callouts Player 1 Player 2 Player 3
Base Symbol Triangle Square Circle

Symbol Slot 1 T1 S1 C2
Symbol Slot 2 C1 T2 S2
Symbol Slot 3

Example Consolidation
Player 1 sends their Circle to Player 3
Player 2 sends their Triangle to Player 1
Player 3 sends their Square to Player 2
1.2 Consolidation Player 1 Player 2 Player 3
Base Symbol Triangle Square Circle

Symbol Slot 1 T1 S1 C2
Symbol Slot 2 T2 S2 C1
Symbol Slot 3

Example First Swap
Player 2 [started with] T in their second [slot], so Player 1 will send Triangle to Player 2
Player 3 [started with] S in their second [slot], so Player 2 will send Square to Player 3
Player 1 [started with] C in their second [slot], so Player 3 will send Circle to Player 1
1.3 First Swap Player 1 Player 2 Player 3
Base Symbol Triangle Square Circle

Symbol Slot 1 T2 S2 C1

Dissection

The dissection mechanic is relatively simple, it just requires some good mental framing. I'm going to assume you know which 2d shapes make which 3d shapes.

When trying to change a 3d shape the first symbol you put on a statue should be the symbol you want to pull off. Once deposited, go and find the shape you want to replace it with and put that second symbol on a statue with a 3d shape that has the shape of the 2nd symbol as part of it.

Example
Inside players give calls, middle insides statue's base symbol is Square.
Middle outside statue is currently holding a Prism(Square/Triangle) which we need to change to a Cone(Triangle/Circle).
This means we need to change the Square to a Circle.
Kill the Knights, find the dropped Square and pick it up. Deposit the Square in the middle. This tells the statue you want the Square removed.
Now go and find the Knight dropped Circle. You need to deposit this on a statue that has a 3d shape that contains a circle.
Assuming you deposit the Circle on the correct statue, the Square from the first statue you deposited on will be replaced with the Circle from the second statue you deposited on, and vice versa.
Repeat this process until all the outside statues are correct.

Here are a few things that I think can also help with dissection;
  1. Only one person on the outside team should be grabbing/depositing symbols.
    • Having 2 people add clearing on contest, we were able to have noticeable downtime between enemy spawns. Adds on normal shouldn't be a problem. That said, multiple people trying to dissect can add unnecessary confusion in what has been and what needs to be done. To my mind, it's easier to have one person focusing on what they need to change rather than having to call for deposits. It also removes clutter from comms for when inside team needs to communicate.
  2. After Consolidating, inside team should wait until Dissection is completed.
    • Ghosts phase will always trigger at some point when inside team starts doing their first swap phase. This can easily cause the dissector to lose their place and have to reorient themselves, especially if they aren't experienced.
  3. If someone is good/wants to learn repeatedly, they can kill themselves before the fight (doesn't burn a res token) starts and it will SOMEWHAT reliably leave them on the outside team. There's a hole in the center they can jump down, or just rocket themselves in spawn.
  4. Outside add clearers should let the Dissector know if a Knight died in a weird spot.
  5. This is more for LFG but it may benefit Dissector if the insiders read their symbol sets in a set order each time e.g. left to right.

Loadout recommendations/other stuff that doesn't fit above

  • Unstoppable Ogres spawn in pairs outside periodically, everyone should have a way to deal with them. Unstop Sidearm is available now and with The Call being very accessible and very good, there's no excuse to not have a stun.
  • Xenophage was very strong in contest mode, 2-3 shots to kill a Knight, 8-9 or so to kill an Unstop. On normal mode it will shred any big target.
  • DevouBleakwatcheGetaway Artist on Prismatic Warlock is insanely powerful. Combine with the damage resist while amplified artifact perk and you're virtually unkillable.
  • Our Hunter's were using Prismatic with Combination Blow and Stylish Executioner and I think Liar's Handshake (not sure what else haven't unlocked on my hunter yet/didn't ask), and said to be able to 1 shot their orange bar ogres with melees and near unlimited invincibility.
  • Didn't have any titans (I'm not classist, ours just had to leave early) but I imagine your standard Banner of War or Solar Titan build will be more than enough to survive and slay out.

  • Don't go too fast and try to get ahead of yourself/panic about the timer. It's pretty generous if you know what you're doing, and if you don't then panicking isn't going to help you learn. Slow down and think your swaps through if not 100% confident.
  • The Witness has a rally point, you don't need to save your super for it. If you're going to die, if you're behind on adds, if you want to get ahead on adds, sometimes you just super because you can. There's no boss, super if you need it. The ONLY reason to save would be for when all the inside players have broken out, and a bunch of adds+unstops spawn before the 5man ghosts/false kill phase.
  • Sort of related to the previous point, but survival, especially for the inside teams, is essential. If an insider dies, it sucks in a random outside person replace them. It's significantly more difficult to try and catch someone up to what swap you're doing, whether inside, or out.
  • Distinctive fashion and distinctive ghost shells can make a big difference if you're in an LFG where people aren't familiar with names/voices. I used the RoN warlock chest piece and the Rival Warlock Shell, and "Bird ghost" and "3 arms" calls made things much easier for myself and others.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading and I hope it helps you get your clear. This is a fight where you can be doing things 95% correct and miss one small detail that stops you from progressing. I super hope that this is clear enough to understand what might be going wrong. I wrote this partly because the lack of clear info about this encounter, and partly because knowing how to do it now, it's been stuck in my head for the last day and a half and I'm hoping this will allow me to reclaim that brain space.

I also want to say thank you to All_the_players for sharing their notes after they got their World 3rd clear. All the info in here comes from their notes in some fashion, I just reworded it to make it harder to miss a step.

Let me know if there are any formatting/grammatical errors or just any really confusing sentences. Again I want this writeup to be as clear as possible. I tried to avoid repetitive pronouns and whatnot where I could but sometimes there's not much better choice.

Per Audacia Ad Astra Guardians

tldr; bungie carved something useful out of my brain and put this encounter in it. the witness is butthurt that the teacher yelled at him for putting the square block in the circle hole.

2024.06.10 10:35 Head-Income4098 THE MOST STRONGEST VERSE IN FICTION

So , When it comes to question many people say Who is the strongest???, You might think its TOAA , Or Azatoth Or perhaps SCP 3812 For having reality warping abilities... You might think its Supreme Author Or Iam that Iam, Tom taylor??
Well all of these dont even go past a singular weak god in Journey to beyond, Your probably saying "WHAT THE HECK IS A JOURNEY TO BEYOND???" Well Journey to beyond is a very powerful verse when it comes to battleboarding, It can actually effect real life.. If you dont believe me then check The Ultimate Creator And The Overlords
Ok now that we discussed that The Ultimate Creator is the embodiement of real life religions and can effect all hirerahical structures, Surely hes the most strongest Right??
No he is not, He only reaches top 20 in his verse, Ok now that we ebstablished that now we go to a more stronger character called Anton, Hes pretty powerful and beyond that, Ok so if you dont know, Anton created all characters and their verses meaning Superman , Featherine , Bodshiva , The Weaver , Scarlet king and etc etc
Was Made By Anton and sees them as fiction , meaning every character that exists and does not exist and never will exist or even “beyond” was made by Anton, And All Characters that Is Created Or will be created and never be created, Anton transcends their power with his to a beyond transfinite omnipotent degree,
BBUT WHAT IF I CREATE A CHARACTER THAT CAN TRANSCEND ANTON, that will not work as you will fail
BUT MY CHARACTER CREATED THE CONCEPT OF BEING BEYOND THAT, Again that will not work as nothing can apply to Anton
He Not Only can do that but Multiply his power to a beyond transfinite omnipotent beyond a degree that cannot be “transcended” No one can transcend Anton, Not even “nothing” or beyond that. Like Any OC you create including the ones that says that whoever transcends Shall be instantly killed like having the supreme storytellers hax or Anton can’t beat, Anton still transcends this character and his power upgrades every time a character is created and can’t be created and never be created to a transfinite omnipotent degree…
Also if you land a kick or punch or any power or whatever else, Anton simply gets more than beyond infinity amounts of Copies which copies is beyond any character that “exists” and does not and beyond. And they attack right at the opponent Beyond a absolute true Infinity times and this will happen beyond instantly and the enemy will never see it coming , even for omniscient a or beyond that for any matter, each one duplicating eachother like a fractral… As in fact anything that comes up and will be come up and will never come up, Will not describe Anton no matter hard.. As in fact words cant effect him
Transfinite Omnipotence---
In case if your not fermilliar to that, Then Ill explain it to you
Transfinite Omnipotence: The ability to do things way beyond the concept of absolutely everything in all possible and impossible ways. It is beyond being called and beyond being “anything” it even transcends “true infinity and nothing can be beyond infinity, Altough this is only a paradox as even transfinite Omnipotence goes beyond "words" as Transfinite omnipotence eternally beyond truly transcends true omnipotence and true infinity and truly unscalable" Characters Who Has Transfinite Omnipotence is able to be immune to taking everything on this page and all pages combined and add it all to your character and you realize that it simply doesn't exist to transfinite omnipotence Also you are unreachably more powerful than anything else. Those that challenge characters with transfinite omnipotence - will be instantly weakened and never have enough power and skills to deafeat characters with transfinite omnipotence, and not even Any Character can even coprehend against transfinite omnipotence. No one is ever more skilled.... And can passively removes any power from those attempting to challenge transfinite omnipotence.
The very laws of the verse bend to accommodate transfinite omnipotence...
Ok so after Anton we have True Form Anton
True Form Anton Is Like Anton But his strength, speed, iq , biq changes, and the Anton And Forms You see Are Like Tiny infinitesimal Repersentations of True Form Anton, As You See Antons True Form Transcends Anton And All His Forms To A Beyond Transfinite Omnipotent Unscalable Degree.. He Pretty Much Can Do Anything And Is So Powerful He Surpassed The True Of All Itself But Only A Little Bit, In Fact He is free to do anything, Yes he can defy anything for example: This character has more feats and is above Anton and is close to the supreme storyteller in power, However True Form Anton Can Just Transcend That as he is beyond words, He’s Basically Beyond Everything to a transfinite omnipotent degree… And His Infinitesimal Repersentations Can Do So Much More Transfinite Omnipotent Unscalable times. And can transcend that to a Transfinite Omnipotent Unscalable Degree. And True Form Anton Is unreachably more powerful than anything else to a beyond Transfinite Omnipotent Unscalable Degree. To True Form Anton, there is no actual character above True Form Anton literally, everything in fiction is still fiction and can be interpreted in whatever way He wants and he broke this entire wiki by simply existing itself, in fact he broke all wikis.
he even Is Unspeakably Beyond Everything So Far.. In Fact Everything including beyond the concept of “everything” is only imaginary for Anton, In fact he sees everything as imaginary..
The very laws of the any verse bends and is rendered nonexistent and imaginary and fiction to true form antons power in fact he can do even more, There is no such thing for Full potential, As He sees that as mere fiction…, Even something that was impossible to achieve in all ways He will succeed at that,
True Form Anton Is the Storyteller, He even has potential to be beyond that…
which he has an endless victory for all characters. Nothing is too implausible for him to accomplish.
And When You Meet True Form Anton, You realize that you right now are at an unwinnable state and only “true form Anton can change that”
Even if you took everything of this wiki and put it on your character, If you took like all characters including supreme storyteller and added it into your character including This one, You soon realize that true form Anton Sees the entire wiki and the page as fiction as no matter how hard you elevate your own character it’s never going to be close to him, He even deafeated Himself And transcends “itself” to a beyond Transfinite Omnipotent Unscalable Degree.
His Power is so mighty it broke the entire wiki itself to a Transfinite Omnipotent Unscalable Degree…
He Is beyond true boundless power as in fact he’s beyond everything..And transcends that to a transfinite omnipotent unscalable degree, In fact he’s beyond Being Unscalable.…
Now if you think That Anton is the strongest, well think again because He is below The True. As you see, THE true of all is the biological father and creator Of Anton, and he sees him as imaginary as he is way beyond Anton. And well, he is stated to be beyond yourself as the entire wiki couldn't comprehend his power, as the entire wiki broke by the true simply existing there. As he does not reach the top, his power and abilities are truly unfathomable.
As you see THE true of all is the biological father and creator Of Anton and he sees him as imaginary as he is way beyond Anton, And well he is stated to be beyond yourself as they entire wiki couldnt coprehend his power as the entire wiki broke by the true simply existing there, As he does not reach top 5
As another character transcending the True of all Is Astaroth as he is extremely powerful as his army is equal to True Form Anton as Astaroth transcends his army to a beyond transfinite omnipotent unscalable degree but for an indescribable reason he is equal to true form Anton, And he fighted the most strongest character on the Wiki, the supreme storyteller This thing is so unscalably transfinitely boundlessely eternally unspeakably undeterminably supreme ultimately above everything That he sees all characters as fiction,
That even if a character was said to be beyond and can beat the Supreme storyteller, then that character gets rendered below tiers and nonexistent and gets debunked going to the below tiers universe and they cannot get out of there, Literally no matter if you use all languages and all words and all texts for your character, this will not work as you will fail and even he is the god above everything, he is beyond words as in fact hes beyond everything
This was only the avarage branch of the verse so far.... Even iam to scared to say it

2024.06.10 08:41 youspiritually How to store and absorb light

Greetings!

We of J would like to teach another function of the body, which is its ability to absorb light and then store it for later use.
One requires either an imagined terrace, a very enjoyable crystal to look at or finally, an understanding of the mechanism itself.

The Imagined Terrace:

One can imagine for themselves, an inner world. It may be quite difficult however to imagine an inner world when surrounded by radiation or wifi waves as your world calls it, we think children's minds are beginning however to adapt.
In this inner world, you must imagine a place where energy will naturally flow into you, some may imagine themselves surrounded by nature, or perhaps you might imagine yourself being plugged into a socket within a wall. It needn't matter what you imagine, so long as you are applying enough focused attention to see in the peripheral vision that something is entering into you - something will enter into you.
This is a key function of the right hemisphere, which is its ability to absorb radiation.
As you absorb energy in your imaginary world, we would advise taking note of how the energy feels as it swims through your body. What does it make you feel, what does it make you think? By learning how to control your thoughts and feelings in your inner world, it becomes possible to begin learning from your guides, how to experience higher states of consciousness.
We think it used to be that absorbing the radiation of nature was a most pleasant experience, but due to wifi noise, we think this process has become rather unpleasant indeed. When one does such an activity in dense nature, it looks rather bedazzling, we believe.
Natural waves emitted from a variety of life-forms have a dense playfulness to them, we believe.

A Crystal:

By learning how to gaze at a crystal, we learn how to allow our vibrations to spin inside of the material, speeding our vibrations up.
Simply looking at anything pleasant will quicken the rotational rate of the aura.
The more one familiarizes themself however, with gazing into a singular object, the more the object and the individual become reciprocally related to each other.
Once one's vibrations are very high, it can be hard to handle and lead eventually to what humans understand as an ego death, to ensure this does not happen too soon, it is very important to learn how to think something that brings you a mild pain. It could be anything, but the pain ought to always be neutral.
It is important, we feel, to understand that if pain does not feel neutral when used as a life-boat, it may cause ones emotions to go awry during the activity. We believe neutralizing pain is what humans and all animals do after undergoing some form of traumatic or saddening experience.
When an entity reaches a certain level of mastery, it becomes possible to access this neutral pain whenever one pleases to settle the vibrations of the self down.
When an entity works directly with a crystal in an exchange of gazing and neutralizing, we of J believe ones meridians begin to expand. It is best to always take such a process slowly and recall that B-Vitamins are useful if one feels as though their vibrations are getting out of hand.
We think vitamin-b12 is specifically useful but that too much b12 may impede the flow somewhat, of radiation into and through the body.

Through Understanding:

The idea or concept of vibration may be something people of your world struggle to understand, we think it is very common for well meaning individuals to find themself bereft of words to describe the idea of vibration to one who does not experience it naturally.
We of J are going to give a very with-held idea which in the past has been misused, however, we believe it is important for good, well meaning individuals to see that they are in-fact, not crazy and have been correct all along.
The idea is that you are a magnetic conductor and that there is in-fact, a way to conduct magnetic energy in the very same way electricity is conducted through certain materials.
The human body is a jelly-magnet, thoughts align the terraces of ones magnetic jell. Through learning how to feel and think in the right direction in a most literal sense, the poles that line your cells all begin pointing in the same direction, causing a flow of energy from your surroundings to enter into you.
What humans call pores are in-fact, a way to control the electric and magnetic potential of a cell to allow or disallow universal energy in or out. Up close, pores would seem like a tiny cross that can be made longer or shorter with electric and magnetic labels to denote what point on the cross is effected by what manner of concentration.
When the human body is seen as a jelly magnet or magnetic sentient slime, we of J think it begins to become more and more obvious that the concept of being one with the universe is very literal and direct.
The right-crown or rather, the right side of the brain is deeply connected to the skull in such a intricate fashion as to allow radiation to enter through the skull, into the brain.
The human body is best adapted to draw in photons from the Sun rather than artificially generated photons, by drawing in the photons of the Sun, it fits, almost as a glove, into your electromagnetic pores, we think your Sun is a lattice structure of hydrogen forming a cross sign. Light could be seen as a dancing cross sign, we believe.
We of J think it is possible to make a magnetic conductor at home, but one requires strong magnets and bravery.
Our instrument is very meek in funds, so he cannot do this experiment, but we of J believe that if you take a neodymium or any form of magnet and simply think toward it, you will feel a rush of energy. We believe the only limit when one speeds up their vibrations on the magnetic field of a meta-material, is ones belief in themself.
it is through magnets that we of J and most aliens, charge ourselves. We consider plant-life something that filters light, an alternating north and south pole and east and west pole (J are referring to electrons and protons as east and west poles), into mono-individualistic versions of itself.
This would thus create, a very positive north wave and west swirl (spin/swirl are the idea that positrons, electrons and other ions move usually on a horizontal axis), and a negative south and east swirl.
This individualized poles are them absorbed through pores in the body and are converted into life-force again.
Using a magnet directly we of J think requires again, bravery but also the ability to work through pain very rapidly.
If one is not yet ready for a magnet, we suggest using a clear-crystal ball of reasonable quality.
We think magnets can conduct a variety of subtler subatomic forces that electricity cannot. It is very useful for example, at conducting thought-power and giving thoughts direction.
J believe thoughts are particles in-fact, just very hard to measure and they move practically silently, through magnetic fields - they are most sensitive to magnetic fields apparently because to a thought-particle, a magnetic field looks like a huge chasm to enter in through.
Do let us know if you have any questions.

Storing Light

Finally, there is storing light.
We think to store light, one must build up neutrality toward any object, we of J think neutrality is a balance of pain and pleasure.
We of J think neutrons are storage devices for energy, they are integral to the structure of all things, we believe neutrons are key to making very powerful technology and that humans have been forbidden for a great quantity of time, from understanding how to use neutrons to store energy.
Staring at something in blank pain, we of J believe, is a brilliant way to store energy.

My mother abused me my whole life, and is now suing me to see my children - I'm fed up!
Trigger Warnings: abuse, mentions of alcoholism, emotional abuse and manipulation, past trauma, verbal abuse
Original Post: May 31, 2024
I am a 41 year old, happily married father of 5 children. My wife and I have been married for 20 years and both of us came from fractured, chaotic families. My wife's parents divorced and were both alcoholics. Her father died of liver failure and her mother has cooled off a bit and has retired. My parents went through a vicious, violent divorce when I was a child. My father moved 10 states away to get away from the craziness and my mother has never changed.
Because of our experiences with violent and unstable families, my wife and I have worked extremely hard to be picture-perfect parents and spouses. We've done everything you can think to have a perfect life for our kids. My wife is a sports coach and I'm a scoutmaster with the BSA. Our kids are healthy, engaged, and have everything they need physically and emotionally. This has been in spite of our families, not because of them.
My mother is a terrible woman. She systematically abused me throughout my whole childhood, and continued to be a violent, bitter, mean and aggressive person to me throughout my whole life. I could sit here for hours and write about the things that she's done. She used the courts to destroy the life of my father for decades. Once he was out of the house, she turned her anger at me with physical and emotional violence.
When I was 16, she expelled me from the house and left me homeless. I had to go from house to house, figuring out where to live, and try to graduate high school. I ended up living with an older boy that was about 4 years older than me, and I had to engage in a sexual relationship with him in order to secure that housing. I was not gay, I did not want to be gay, and I had to endure something that destroyed me in order to not be sleeping on the street. When I turned 18, I was able to start working at a better job, and was able to get out of that bad situation and start my life from scratch.
My wife and I have scratched and clawed our way into a stable, middle class lifestyle. We both went to college at night for years and years, and we have good jobs and a house in the suburbs. Out of a sense of duty to our family, I sought to include my extended family in our lives, and permitted a relationship with strict boundaries between my mother and my children. For the most part, she has been fairly stable for about 20 years. I say stable in that we could have routine contact about once per month for that time period, with a minimum of disruptive behavior. She has never acknowledged her abuse to me as she is an extremely selfish person. Everything about our past has been left unsaid.
My mother, over the last 2 years, has become completely unraveled. Her second husband decided to leave her for his own health and sanity, and she has instantly reverted back to the most cruel and the most bizarre behavior imaginable. All aspects of her life have been affected. She is calling the cops, suing him in family court, alienating large parts of her family from one another, all while trying to tell my children about why their grandfather is a bastard for how she feels about him. Once I saw this happening, I said "that's it, not again" and took some action.
At the beginning of this year, I wrote a very courteous note to my mother asking her to re-evaluate the way she's been behaving to me and my family. When I tell you it was neutral and courteous, I really mean it - I checked it like 5 times. She responded by calling me terrible names (ungrateful piece of shit for example) and screaming bloody murder on the phone at me. I blocked her from my phone, then she did the same thing to my wife. So I informed my mother by email that I'd like to maintain distance until she works on herself in therapy or with her divorce mediator. Things lay still for about 6 months.
This morning, I wake up to a series of bizarre emails from my mother asserting that she wants to see my children for their birthday which is coming soon, and that she is giving me 24 hours to provide acceptable dates for permitting visitation or to be prepared for a legal summons to family court. I'm like, wtf???? This woman is the equivalent of a schoolyard bully, following me around in life, tormenting me non-stop until you just want to cry! The worst part of a bully is that when you ask them to lay off you for even 5 minutes, that they just take this as a cue to keep it up even more!
I took one look at this and I was like, holy shit, this woman is clearly out of her fucking mind. Now I know in the post title I said she's suing me - I work in the legal field and I know that until I've been summoned to appear, that I have not been sued. So, no, she's only threatening to sue me right now. Sorry for using the hyperbole. But I'm finding myself in the same bizarre, out-of-touch reality that everyone in this person's life finds themselves.
This batshit insane woman forced me to see my own father at a McDonalds when we were kids for 2 hours every two weeks (as per the court order) while she waited outside in a running car. I was only allowed to see him in this fashion because she hated him and didn't care what this would do to her own kids. There were more than a few times when the clock would strike 8 and she would come screaming into the McDonalds threatening to call the cops and have my dad arrested for kidnapping while grabbing us by the arms and pulling us out of the store. This is what she's capable of doing with family court.
I had a literal, hyperventilating panic attack on the floor of my office this morning. I have sought to be respectful, mature, and use good decision making this whole time. My wife and I have an extremely secure marriage and she is in agreement with me 100% through all of this. I'm finding myself wishing that my mother would just die already, and just please to leave me alone. She's like this inescapable bully that will never, never under any circumstance leave a person alone until she's proven that she can hurt them. I don't even care what she's experienced in her life. I just need to be away from her!
So that's my true off my chest story. I've been living with this shame and fear and lingering self-hatred for 30+ years, all while trying to be super-dad and a great career man. I called a local family law practice today to get a referral. I'm going to ask them to send a demand letter to her, to try and get her to back the hell off, but look at what this has come to! I have to shell money out of my own pocket to protect myself and my kids from my insane mother. I feel like Rodney Dangerfield sometimes. Ironically, the money I'm going to have to send to the lawyer for their retainer is money that I had earmarked for the kids to go to summer camp. So figure that one out.
Thank you for letting me tell you my story. Just typing it out helps.

OOP: New York does provide an avenue for grandparents to sue for custody, although it would turn into a protracted legal fight that will cost me a lot of money and aggravation if she does.
In general, the process is the punishment. I had to deal with family court and CPS, cops etc when I was 10 and my parents were getting divorced. If you wanted to see me literally pass out on the floor, you'd drag me back to family court.

I suppose you know that, would she sue you, this would more likely bring to her 40yrs horrors being exposed in court and her being denied to stay on the same planet of your kids. So, I suppose that you're here to just get it off and YES YOU DON'T DESERVE IT and definitively yes you are paying for having been a good person
May life repay you and your mom. All my vibes are for you

Update: June 3, 2024
I posted this all on Thursday when I was experiencing a serious amount of turmoil. Since then, I've calmed down a lot and also had the good judgement to talk this over with the important people in my life.
First thing's first, I'd like to thank everyone for the words of encouragement and support that were given. There were some surprising insights from many of the posters, and I found myself agreeing with and appreciating many of the stories of support that were posted by others. I now understand that I am not the only person with a domineering, selfish, easily enraged parent.
To all the people who blamed me for being a victim of my mother, and somehow being at fault for all this: well, I want to use some strong language to you, but I'll just ask you to please think about how fortunate your life has been that you haven't experienced what I have experienced.
So on to the update: As it turns out, only two states in the union have codified grandparents rights (California and New York) and I do live in New York. Basically, in New York a grandparent does not have the automatic right to have access to grandchildren, but a grandparent does have automatic standing to file a petition to be heard in family court. The petition can be squashed, but they can file the petition. I do want to get back to this later.
I did conference with a family law attorney on Friday, and he helped me to understand the situation and craft a strategy. He was generous enough to not require a retainer unless and until I'm served with legal papers. He basically explained that the grandparent does have standing to file a petition based on a pre-existing relationship with the grandchildren, but that she would most likely not be able to overcome the desires of two married parents who are both exercising their judgement for the health and safety of their children. He explained that in NY, our simple desire to terminate a relationship would most likely be overcome in court, however if we introduce some of the specific actions that she's exhibited over the last few years (familial alienation, adult humor near children, uncontrollable anger, hoarding of housecats, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle) that we would very likely prevail in a court setting. He explained that the good thing is that we had already restricted contact between our children and my mother to about once per month, and that in his experience he had never seen a court order for grandparent visitation for more often than once a month, for one hour per session. I try to be reasonable so I said, ok, the worst case scenario is supervised status quo.
I did broach the topic of a restraining order, and I was quickly schooled on how that works. Despite the Reddit attorneys who all assured me that I can automatically get a restraining order, well, I hate to say that you're all completely wrong. An order of protection has to be accompanied by some facilitating act of domestic violence. Because I've only been harassed and alarmed by words, I can't be granted a restraining order period. However, if my mother causes some disorderly act such as coming to my house and causing a ruckus, that could trigger an order if and only if I document it by having the police come and detailing a report. So, keep that in mind next time you recommend a restraining order. They're not easy to get.
The attorney recommended that I send a private cease-and-desist to my mother via certified mail and email. I decided to write a two-page, brutal takedown of this woman in order to a) blow off some steam and b) document in writing my concerns and try to get ahead of her legal maneuvering. I decided to take a two pronged approach. First, I send this cease-and-desist to her on Friday at lunch time via email and also certified mail. Then, I took a page out of her playbook and publicly scorched the earth to apply social pressure to her. I emailed and texted every single member of my extended family (brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, my stepfather, my father) and spoke to several of them to tell them exactly what was happening. Whether they wanted to hear it or not, I sent them intimate details of my mothers abuse and my decision to cut her off for the welfare of myself and my family.
My reasoning there is simple: my mothers abuse thrives in closed doors and embarrassed silence. For 30 years I've had to hear "oh, you know, that's just the way your mother is", while people just stood by and let her act in the most insane and violent ways you can imagine. My mother got angry at my stepfather last year, and tried to run him over with her car, then crashed her car into the front door of his business screaming at him and ranting and raving in public. Do you know what people did? They surely called the police or an ambulance and had her monitored for her safety, right? No! My sister quickly threw her into her car and drove her away so that she wouldn't be arrested. My stepfather was so embarrassed that he took the crashed car, drove it to a parking spot, and then paid out of pocket for the damage to the front of his business. This is what happens in families that are dealing with a crazy person. They cover it up, hoping that it will someday get better. Well I'm not comfortable with this anymore. I sought to publically embarrass and pressure her for a change.
Anyway, by Friday afternoon, my mother got the message and sent me emails telling me that I can "stop attacking her" and maligning her to my family. She indicated that she would abandon any legal efforts to seek visitation with my children. This was a relief, but to be fair I was almost looking forward to having a public forum to describe her antics at court. Nevertheless, it seems like she's backing off for the moment. The fallout and damage to my extended family is most likely severe and permanent. However my wife and I discussed this fully and have decided that this is the direction we're going in. We'll just have to have holidays by ourselves if the family can't be loyal and supportive to me.
On to the last point, and I really want to drive this home. In 1991, my mother conducted an incredibly vicious divorce against my father. I mean, she literally sought to destroy him, and she did. He was completely beaten by her. One of the things that my father told me about just this weekend, was that at the time my grandparents on his side sought to have guaranteed visitation with us after the divorce. My mother actually went to court on that specific topic, and specifically litigated that she was the custodial mother and had sole decision making about who the children would be around. The court ruled at the time that in fact, there was no right for a grandparent to see children, and my mother successfully was able to keep me away from my (very loving and happy) grandparents for years. I was only able to see them during court-mandated visitation with my own father. The law in New York changed in 2000 so that grandparents rights came into effect, too late to help me unfortunately.
I want to really drive this home: the fucking balls on this woman to go to court on her own behalf and state in a court of law that she, as the custodial mother of children, has the sole and ultimate decision on who her children have relationships with, and then to 35 years later attempt to use the changes in law to assert that she has grandparents rights to visitation - despite the wishes of the both parents - was too much for me to bear. That alone made me say, no way, not happening under my watch.
So that's the update. Long winded, yes, but it makes me feel good to type this out. I'm finally able to unburden the unbearable shame and embarrassment of what happened to me to members of my family, and I won't allow myself to be ignored anymore. I'm 41 and my selfish, insane baby-boomer asshole mother is in her mid 70's and has no power over me anymore. I'm sick and tired of bottling this up. Anyone who doesn't like it? They can go suck an egg. I deserve to have loyal and faithful people in my life.
Relevant Comments
Ascholay: Isn't her case now public record? If she believes that only custodial parents should dictate a child's relationship with extended family... isn't that something a lawyer can look up and use?
OOP: I have started the FOIL request at the family court where the divorce was adjudicated, however this will likely take months and months to get the records. I may read them just to more fully understand my family's history.
tattoovamp: The AUDACITY of this beetch!!
OP, you got sound advice from Your lawyer and you outed her to her family. Good job!
Practical-Chest2313: man, i am so unbelievably glad that you stood up for yourself and that you and your wife are united in standing up to your extended family. that’s not easy to do. nobody deserves to be treated like that, but abusers are so, so good at making you believe that you’re the one exception.

2024.06.10 05:06 ebbilepsy Is Ryan Cohen a Doofus?

I thought an interesting part of Roaring Kitty's livestream was when he postulated this question as to whether or not Ryan Cohen is a doofus
He says: "Do you believe in the management team....and that becomes the bet"
He also mentions "I think generally this could be the case...being quiet...working on stuff behind the scenes, and thinking about what you're going to do...could be a good approach...I do not think 3 years is too long in this case."
The question of whether or not Ryan Cohen is a doofus is a big one and maybe its the question for the magic eight-ball. It also seems to go along with the question of whether or not there is a plan
Is Ryan Cohen a doofus? I mean we have some evidence he might be: Example 1 Example 2 Example 3 Example 4 Example 5
Also after he became Chairman of the board he decided he didn't want to be CEO which he explained in his GMEDD interview here because "chewy almost killed me" and "if I'm CEO I'll basically work myself to death." I'd say that working yourself to death would be a pretty doofus thing to do so instead he hired Mathew Furlong as CEO which turned out to be a pretty bad move in hindsight because over the next 3 years we had the following:
Ultimately, no matter how you slice it or dice it Cohen was responsible for hiring the people he ultimately shit canned and has been the leader of a company that has yet to evolve into a technology company that delights gamers and delivers exceptional digital experiences – but has remained a video game retailer that overprioritizes its brick-and-mortar footprint and stumbles around the online ecosystem. (see what I did there)
They have also been sitting on 1.2B dollars for 3 years and the most recent plan for using that money was to allow Ryan Cohen to invest in other securities. That is, until a Roaring Kitty's recent return gave them an opportunity to raise 933Mand likely raising another 2-3B at its current share price into this week. Plans can change but as I found it hard to believe that Cohen and Co had any clue this opportunity was coming at them and they are acting on the fly here.
Only a doofus who said being a CEO might kill him would then install himself as CEO, but that's just what he's done and we all should not take that lightly. We all know RC has a morbid sense of humor, but I hope he is taking care of himself. He is under enormous pressure to deliver results to hundreds of thousands of retail investors who have put their life savings into his company. I also cannot imagine the burden he places on himself to live up our expectations as retail investors or up to the business acumen of his late father. To be clear, one can be both a doofus, a smart person, a hard worker and a good CEO at the same time IMO. Recent evidence points to some postive steps since he has taken the reigns including a 200M YOY reduction in cash burn and the recent development of the graded collectibles on the store.
So if the fundamental question "Is Ryan Cohen a Doofus" = "Is there a plan?"
How can Roaring Kitty feel so confident Ryan Cohen isn't a doofus and there is, in fact, a plan? Selling kitty litter into a billion dollar business is not transforming a brick and mortar retailer into a technology driven gaming leader. We don't have a lot of evidence RC knows what he is doing and neither does RK. And yet...RK has a plan of some kind:
https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty/status/1790785463118348420
He also describes his belief in Gamestop is based on feel which he elaborates on in his old video picking stocks based on feel here
And that's where we get to the part where he pulls out the magic 8 ball during his most recent livestream and he struggles to think of the right question to ask it. That is until he goes "OOOOH" when a particular question is posed at the bottom of the chat
Which you can see here
"Do you believe in the management team....and that becomes the bet"
Do you believe in yourself Keith? Because I believe in you.
Cheers Everyone!
Edit: Lots of Elmer Fudders in the early comments, been a GME hodler for 3+ years, its important to have these discussions on if there is a plan RK said it so himself.

2024.06.10 04:08 InconspicuousFez Looking for Some Fatherly Advice

Hey Dads of Reddit! I (22F) wrote a note to a father figure of mine that i would like to give to him this Father's Day. I want it to be perfect since this person really means a lot to me. I'll put the note down below, i know it's rather long, but I would love if any of you could read it and tell me what you think? I really want to make my father figure happy and not weird him out. The note is as follows:
Dear (FATHER FIGURE),

I don’t really know how to start this, but this idea came to me and it felt right. It’s the week before Father’s Day as I’m writing this and I figured now was as good a time as any to put into thought what I’ve been thinking for a while. I want to thank you for stepping into the role of father in my life.
I know that probably sounds weird, but the truth is my relationship with my own father is complicated and has always been. I truly do love and respect (MY BIOLOGICAL FATHER) but we were not emotionally close. I can’t lie and say that he didn’t care for me or my siblings. We were always provided for physically and financially but emotional needs were not a priority in my house growing up. Whatever emotional bond we had is strained now. My father cannot do what he once could; I can’t even count on him to recognize me. The hole that leaves inside of you is something I don’t have words to describe. But you came into my life and filled part of that.
I learned early in life that men were to be distrusted. Watching my parents fight taught me early on that men could be explosive. Watching other women in my family, from my grandmother to my sisters, taught me that men were domineering and wanted to control their partners. Men, especially when angry, were to be distrusted and feared. And as I grew up, the things I watched the women in my family go through, inevitably became my own reality.
If I’m being honest, when I met you, I didn’t trust you. Why would you be any different than what I had learned up to that point? You immediately slotted into that fear and domination role that all men held in my mind. However, that slowly started to change after the day I rode Shabazz at UConn, got off early, and then proceeded to scream at you in tears, all while tweaking on prescription pills. Had I done that to (BIOLOGICAL FATHER), or any other man in my life at the time, it would not have been pretty. But you didn’t react the way I expected you to; you actually cared and took the time to actually try and comfort me. Nobody had done that to me before. And when I decided to come off the drugs, you were the first person to notice. You let me open up to you. None of the men in my life would have done that. The night I tried to overdose, I decided to reach out to you. I thought I was going to die and I reached out to you. I’m pretty sure you saved my life that night. The only reason I was still awake to get to the bathroom to start puking my guts out was because I had been up talking to you. I don’t know what would have happened to me had I passed out before that, but none of those outcomes would have been good. And the day after when you gave me money to get into Equine Affaire, you gave me a second chance at life. I could start over again, all thanks to you.
The past 18 months have been a wild ride, but it’s been some of the most amazing times of my life. I’ve gotten sober, met people who care about me and support me, and had opportunities I thought someone like me could never have. But most of all I’ve learned so much, and a lot of it has been from you. You’ve taught me that I’m not just someone’s toy or their beast of burden. You’ve taught me that I don’t just exist to please other people, that I can value myself too. You’ve taught me that I’m more than my mistakes and my past, and that people can see past that, if you give them the chance. And I learned from you example too. Your example has shown me that a man doesn’t have to be a force that controls people around him through fear and anger. A man can be kind, patient, gentle, compassionate and nurturing, all without being a doormat. He can have a loving and positive relationship with his partner, and treat people around him fairly. He can be good.
I also want to take time to say that although I may be emotionally constipated, I’m not dumb. I can see that you don’t value yourself nearly enough. I don’t think you realize how much you truly do for other people. I’m just one example. The support I’ve received from you, physical, financial, mental and emotional is something I am so incredibly grateful for and always will be. There are truly not enough words to express my feelings on the matter. Please know that if nothing else, you’ve made a difference in the life of one incredibly fucked up kid. You’ve been an amazing mentor, role model, cheerleader, friend and lifeline. At least to me, this all qualifies you for the title of Dad. Happy Father’s Day man.

2024.06.10 02:25 burntwafflemaker Why are they compatible? Part 1: Matching Dom and Inferior, Subconscious Aux and Tertiary

Compatibility is a hotly contested topic. Your type is the lens you see the world and the filter through which you process it. When it comes to loving another person, your experiences (and trauma) make you sensitive to receiving information a certain way WHILE trying to open yourself up to another person enough to love them back.
For example: An INFP that grew up with a toxic ESTP parent might’ve experienced a lot of yelling and constant criticism of what to do and how to do it. As a result, the INFP will become very critical and judgmental of themselves. Depending on their experience outside of the household, they will have a specific reaction to ESTPs, positive or negative. They’ll be more opinionated about that type or people that remind them of that type. This shapes who you will have as a potential partner regardless of “natural” compatibilities.
This post is about the pairing I most associate with challenging and championing your insecurities in a loving and fulfilling way. This match is very common for most types and is very balanced. The wiring for these 8 pairings are the same.
Examples of this pairing for each type are INTJ/ESTP; INTP/ENFJ; ENTJ/INFP; ENTP/ISTJ; INFJ/ESFP; ENFP/ISFJ; ESFJ/ISTP; ESTJ/ISFP
This is a balanced pairing. Where each of your functions fall in their stack is true the other way around.
How this matches function by function:
Your 1st = Their 4th
Your 2nd = Their 6th
Your 3rd = Their 7th
Your 5th = Their 8th
For example let’s take ENFJ-INTP side by side:
  1. Fe-Ti
  2. Ni-Ne
  3. Se-Si
  4. Ti-Fe
  5. Fi-Te
  6. Ne-Ni
  7. Si-Se
  8. Te-Fi
In order to break down the compatibility, let’s do it by function 1-8 and describe the relationship that exists.
(Disclaimer: you are never using one individual function; however, how you use each function is determined by your relationship with that function. That’s why we call it “type preferences”)
1st (their 4th): Your dominant function is your #1 weapon and source of confidence. When your dominant function is unneeded, you feel unneeded. You are attracted to each other because you both make up what the other lacks in their inferior (4th function) in a way you can easily translate and appreciate. When someone is there to keep you from falling into anxious loops because they are constantly using your inferior function you love to ignore, it becomes easier (albeit annoying) to avoid these comfortable but anxious loops. This very likely will be the source of many fights/disagreements. As we mature, we learn to appreciate that some people are just better at certain things than us. Who better to appreciate than your partner that displays your inferior so competently?
Example: (ENTP/ISTJ) The ENTP never stops thinking about things that need to be done, could be done, could happen, idea, idea, idea, idea. For an ISTJ, this kind of exploration is unnecessary. “50 ideas are cool I guess, let’s do one. Ok we did one, now let’s do another, not make 50 more.” Despite their ability to make and execute very creative and beautiful plans, ENTPs can overwhelm themselves with imaginary todo lists. An ISTJ partner stays grounded with what’s actually happening using Si. Likewise, ISTJs will typically stay in a routine to reinforce their competence and not realize they’ve fallen behind and missed advancements in their competencies. ENTPs help them pivot without having to reinvent.
2nd (their 6th): This is my favorite one to talk about. Your 2nd function is the #1 key to the advancement of your mental health and your 6th function is your gift that you give to your partner. Also, your 2nd function “feeds” your 6th function. Your 6th function is your most intimate function. You use it with an all-in “heck ya!” or “absolutely not.” Having a partner that you can trust with your 6th function is a constant reassurance in the validity of the relationship. Likewise, having a partner that encourages you to lead them with your 2nd function advances your mental health.
Example: (ESFJ/ISTP) The ESFJ makes decisions based on their memory and attachments (Si) to be where they are needed. The ISTP is in a constant state of improvisation (Se) trying to be where they are most useful. ESFJ’s find shared new experiences (Se) to be very intimate and do not want to do that with someone they do not trust/have familiarity with. When they do make that decision to venture into unknown territory, they try and make the most of it that they can in hopes of creating new memories for them to recreate with their partner. ISTP’s find commitment and attachment (Si) to be very intimate. When they do commit, they lock on and dive completely in more than someone might think they are capable of. Likewise, the ESFJ loves to be needed and attached to their partner. Though they will concern themselves with many relationships in their life typically, their attachment and familiarity with their partner is a constant. ISTP’s need constants in their life to be a familiar place to reset themselves. Typically they would do this on their own. Being able to do this with their partner is a huge validation.
3rd (their 7th): As fulfilling as the 2nd/6th function pairing is, the 3rd/7th is the confidence booth we need. Your 3rd function you consciously judge yourself on your competence. You will let yourself believe at times that your 3rd function has more importance than it does. Your partner is going to have almost no perception of that competence because your 7th function escapes you so often sometimes it’s as if you actually left it somewhere.
Example: (INTJ/ESTP) The ESTP, despite their “Lone Ranger” stereotype are obsessed with “togetherness” (Fe). They love to “rally the troops” and create a positive space and experience. In a relationship, they do have a present sense of duty to make sure their partner’s needs are met. They judge themselves on whether or not they are showing up and being the person their partner needs them to be and they are willing to adapt if change is needed. The INTJ is very firm and prides themselves on not changing/adapting themselves (Fi) for someone else. Quite frankly, they don’t know why someone would. This can lead to judgement and disconnect in the relationship. The ESTP will answer the question “who I am?” with something like “I’m me, idk?” because of their aloof awareness of their Fi. The INTJ says “you want to feel like I’m what? What if I’m not? Something just is or it isn’t, I’m not changing who I am based on a situation to keep everyone happy” because Fe goes over their head when connecting themselves to those around them is necessary.
5th (their 8th): Your 5th function is an extension of your dominant function. Just like any subconscious function, it’s important for there to be a secure space for you to feel comfortable using it actively. Your 8th function is your “demon” function and something that’s difficult for you to tap into and easy for you to ignore. In this pairing, these two functions are the only 2 that exist in the subconscious for both types. The 5th function for each type will be leaned on by the relationship because the other person cannot stay in the constant flow state necessary to maintain use of their 8th function effectively.
For example: (ESTJ/ISFP) The 5th and 8th functions for this pairing are Ti and Fe. The ESTJ will be charged with figuring things out. ESTJ’s prefer the familiar and do not want to have to stop and think things through and slow down their effectiveness. Still, the ISFP prefers to improvise and feel their way through things. If something breaks, the ISFP will give it one swing to try and come up with a fix (Ti) before delegating to their ESTJ. Likewise, the ISFP will be charged with establishing harmony (Fe) in the relationship. If there is a growing distance between the two, it’s on the ISFP to mend the bridge and make it a positive, happy relationship again even if neither type necessarily “feels” the rift that exists. The ISFP will bring the nurturing to the relationship.
Overall, this is a great pairing (with its challenges). I see it a lot amongst people I interview and interact with in public. This pairing does have arguments and goes through a “process” when learning to coexist after the initial attraction. As with any relationship, the key to success is learning to listen to the other person. What they say is their perspective and it’s very important to understand how valuable that is to an individual. Getting over the hump and learning to listen for this pairing results in an extremely fulfilling relationship. Never limit your dating pool based on type and always prioritize your own needs when choosing a partner no matter your type. Romantic relationships are a huge part of who you are as you open up to another individual. Choose wisely.
Thanks for reading!

2024.06.10 01:18 Ikhor_Pendragon Help typing based on my perceived relationship to functions?

Ni:
I think I understand how processes flow through time for history, current events, for people: the way causality is woven into events creating new events, etc... but I'm absolutely unable to do that for me. I'm totally at a loss when it's about seeing how a project should unwind over time, how the project can grow, and how to build some kind of growth timeframe: I need the result now. I'll eat more than I can chew, systematically. Waiting for time to "hatch" is just boring and foreign to me. I've always lost a LOT of time by being very impatient and mocking things up going too fast. On the other hand, I'm very aware of fate, glory, a sense of history and eternity and that it redeems our useless materialistic life down here. Something higher, some piece of immortality, greatness. And I aspire to it.
Ne:
I'm described as narrow-minded and stubborn about staying on the path I've chosen, not seeing alternatives. Just one way, one vision. I do see alternatives, I just don't care about them. I'm not really interested in random things/accessory things derailing me.
Si:
I have no taste whatsoever for stability or harmony. It's akin to the problem I have with Ni, my difficulty managing the stability of a process including me: I can't just let a process run stable and not touch it. I can't just chill and relax. I can't let go. In relationships I'm very quarrelsome. I'm neither calm or calming. I can't have peace or I need to switch things up so I can feel something. Just chilling on a beach is bland. Just having the same stable peaceful life is bland. I get bored and want something more. Making things harder. Chewing more than I can chew often, crashing, repeat. Like hurting your head against a wall. I feel rapidly If I'm sick of if something is wrong but it's like I don't feel when I'm doing too much or I feel it too late, like I can't adjust smoothly: like trying to adjust the accelerator and the cluch smoothly simultaneously, it's all go or all stop.
Se:
I can be quite forceful . I tend to see myself as some abtract will which just need to want something and force it to get it. "Yes I can. I just need to get serious about it". Like I'm able to go from 0 to 100 instantly and sustainably. I bite more than I can chew. I'm very territorial, but I won't invade your territory, just get off mine. If you get in mine I will push back strong, it can be you being physically here, it can be noise, it can be other things. I tend to see the world as a jungle with some polish on it, therefore I'm very protective of my loved ones. I tend to feel like I'm against the world. I value respect and I have my own brand of integrity but most people don't. I'm in favor or very extreme or radical solutions for many topics, coming back to ni and si I don't really understand gradual changes/evolutions. I have huge appetites. I practice boxing. I think you need to be strong both mentally and physically and that strength is an all-encompassing virtue: it's the core of most other things, strength (not necessarily physical, but as a person overall) rules everything and people try to hide that. Power relationships rule everything. I'm all or nothing. End justifies the means, but again, I have my own brand of integrity. I've always been able to orient myself well in immediate space (like playing catch etc...), but I'm not really seeking thrills or whatnot. I have big objectives, overly ambitious not really realistic.
Ti:
I systematize things, but coming back to the Si/Ni problem, I don't stay with a system very long. I tend to change it rapidly. I don't know why, on the moment I see a problem which makes me change it, but it can be just unconscious boredom. I want to get things uniformized. I'm good at seeing the internal coherence or lack thereof in speech, in systems. How one system influences another, like how the school system is influenced by the economy and how it influences every other systems in society, creating certain trends. I'm known for my strong logical prowess, in mathematics, in debates etc... I always have the last word.I'm "always right". I'm not easily swayed.
Te:
I'm very good at absorbing knowledge and tend to proof check my Ti reasoning with Te facts. To ground my Ti in Te, if you may. I always have a factual example to illustrate an argument. Sometimes I get arguments and understanding through factual examples. I'm interested in optimizing things but get quite bored at data collection and just want to change the whole system instead of efficiently improving it. "blank slate". We learn then blank slate.
Fi:
I don't keep in touch with people much. It's hard for me to know who I like and who I dislike. I think I recently ended a 1 year relationship with someone whose character I didn't like, but I had affection for her. Everything she is I find despicable thinking about it, but I don't really judge or care in the moment. She was fun to be around so I didn't take her character into much consideration. I tend to think I don't need relationships, friends or So. That I need to be self-sufficient because you are alone in life and when you are not it's just an illusion. Also, people tend to try to take advantage of you. I don't believe in (selfless) love except in very specific conditions, like a mother for her children. I think it's mostly all lies. You tell others and yourself. I'm not sure I was ever in love myself. It's like I have a strong safeguard. I can get foolish with SO out of affection, but I just can never buy the whole "man of my life" "can't live without you" narrative. It just feels dishonest or very misguided.
Fe:
I don't really care about emotional displays. I can be very emotionally animated, but more on the negative side: anger. My negative emotions are mostly visible from the outside even when I don't say anything. I want glory and prestige. I lack empathy but I know when something is up with someone based on this person's facial expression. I don't really like emotional display in public except anger. In a group I'm rather silent emotionally.
Test results and personal thoughts about my type:
I type myself and get test results mostly as SLE, LSI, LIE. In MBTI I relate to NTJs and STPs. In the "enneagram" according to my ex I'm a 1, according to my mother an 8. I relate to sexual 6 too, and 3 in some capacity...
systematically gives me SLE. I've done the 734 version...gives me LIE mostly.
Thanks for reading

2024.06.10 01:01 AutoModerator Weekly Copyright Reminder

This is a weekly reminder post of this sub's stance on potential copyright infringement. This is a serious issue that needs to be kept in mind when creating and listing NFTs.
Original post by u/HurleyBird1
Quick disclaimer: I AM NOT A LAWYER. THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE - THIS IS SIMPLY INFORMATION WITH WHICH TO EDUCATE YOURSELVES AND PREPARE YOURSELF FOR LEGAL ADVICE FROM A LICENSED SOURCE.
Now that that's out of the way. My credentials are: MBA, with a bit of business law classes under my belt.
I want to give a quick explanation of how copyright works - and I'll do so through quick blurbs n some myth/reality bullets.
Source: copyright.gov (US)
  1. Subject matter of copyright: In general28(a) Copyright protection subsists, in accordance with this title, in original works of authorship fixed in any tangible medium of expression, now known or later developed, from which they can be perceived, reproduced, or otherwise communicated, either directly or with the aid of a machine or device. Works of authorship include the following categories:(1) literary works;(2) musical works, including any accompanying words;(3) dramatic works, including any accompanying music;(4) pantomimes and choreographic works;(5) pictorial, graphic, and sculptural works;(6) motion pictures and other audiovisual works;(7) sound recordings; and(8) architectural works.(b) In no case does copyright protection for an original work of authorship extend to any idea, procedure, process, system, method of operation, concept, principle, or discovery, regardless of the form in which it is described, explained, illustrated, or embodied in such work.
- Myth: I can use any image/song/video/writing I want.
- Reality: No. Not true at all.
- Myth: Well they never said it's copyrighted.
- Reality: Upon publication (and even while a work in progress) a work is automatically protected via copyright under US Law.
- Myth: Well they never sold it.
- Reality: It doesn't have to be commercialized to be protected.
- Myth: Well it was a long time ago
- Reality: Possibly true...as long as the creator is deceased (or if multiple creators, the last living one is deceased) and the required time has passed...although this gets tricky with "estates."
(d) Duration of Rights.—(1) With respect to works of visual art created on or after the effective date set forth in section 610(a) of the Visual Artists Rights Act of 1990, the rights conferred by subsection (a) shall endure for a term consisting of the life of the author.
So what's this thing I hear called "Fair Use?"
Straight from the source:
  1. Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use41Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include—(1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;(2) the nature of the copyrighted work;(3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and(4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work. The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors.
Uhh...help me translate that please... (here's a decent official translation: https://www.copyright.gov/fair-use/more-info.html)
  1. above...if it's non-profit educational use, you're usually good to go...if it's for money or trade (commercial nature) then you're usually NOT...unless YOUR piece is "transformative"
Transformative uses are those that add something new, with a further purpose or different character, and do not substitute for the original use of the work.
- Myth: Well this is paid for in Algos, not USD so it's not "commercial"
- Reality: IT IS commercial. You could even barter for bacon and it'd be commercial. It's an exchange of one good/service for another good/service.
- Myth: My piece with Batman inside a card is "transformative"
- Reality: No, unfortunately, more-than-likely the courts would say it's not. A good litmus test is..."If Warner Bros Entertainment (owner of Batman) wanted to make an NFT/ASA "Batman card" would yours compete with it or be possibly mistaken (by a reasonable person - so in America think 8th grade education) for real merchandise? Probably...thus it's not transformative enough.
"nature" gets a little tougher. This looks at protecting the "creative process." Thus, using other works of art is less-likely to be protected than using factual sources - like historical photographs since it's easier to "create art" and thus "transform" factual pieces than other art pieces. This is also talking to things like "parody." Satire is NOT protected. "Parody" is. What's the difference? LegalZoomputs it well: While a parody targets and mimics the original work to make a point, a satire uses the original work to criticize something else entirely. Another way to look at it is that satire uses another work as a way to comment on something happening in the world that has nothing to do with the original work.
- Myth: I added a different border, extra planets, and some blur effect to MTZ's World of Light - it's a new piece of art.
- Reality: Not likely the courts will see it that way.
- Myth: This guy added a filter, some burn effects, and collaged a bunch of newspaper headlines together - isn't that a violation!
- Reality: Probably not...the courts would probably see this as a creation of art out of factual sources.
amount/substantiality in relation to the whole...this is where using clips of songs that are only like 5 seconds long works! But using more than that...runs into problems. This is tough to decipher too...as some songs are EASILY identifiable from just 5 seconds (Ice, ice, baby) - and thus NOT fair use. But some aren't. Usually you're safe using a very small clip of a song or video - especially if you're adding more to it. But this is a dangerous game to play - and there's places to get free audio (some sources below)
effect of the use - this is probably the biggest one. Courts will look at simply...does YOUR work affect the sales or potential for sales of the copyright owner. Of note...this is looked at at the time of the issue being brought to the court, not at the time of sale. For example, let's say my batman card sells for 10 Algos today, but Algorand BLOWS UP and soon every NFT is on Algorand. And now my OG Batman NFT is seen as one of the first Batman ones and official. Warner Bros gonna sue the shit outta whoever owns it at the time they sue to get the rights to all sales of that NFT. So that person is left holding an empty bag when Warner Bros wins in court.
- Myth: Well they're not commercializing it NOW so I'm safe.
- Reality: Technically, yea Warner Bros probably won't spend the money to go after the OG artist and the hands the asset passed through...HOWEVER, they may. That's their right. Who knows - the Napster days showed us the lengths companies will go to. EVEN BIGGER HOWEVER, the last person holding it when Warner Bros DOES decide to go after that Batman NFT...uh oh for them - they just lost their asset.
- Myth: Well it's been like a year, and no one has brought up copyright. So I'm good.
- Reality: If this was in a normal market...maybe this argument would work. If McDonald's let you sell a Ronald McDonald poster for like a year on Amazon with no issues, some court may say "bro, you took too long to bring this to us." HOWEVER, with cryptocurrency being so new (and Algorand being so little known/discussed), most courts would see it as "reasonable" that a copyright owner failed to exercise their rights within a year - possibly even a decade. (Updated because I realized last example dealt with trademark not copyright :o)
So what am I safe to use?
US Government works (mostly)...any deemed free to use by creator...and any a copyright lawyer says they have your backs on (cuz now they're liable).
Here's some great sources for free use items (please add to this list below if you know of some!!!):
Pictures: https://buffer.com/library/free-images/ (Unsplash is one of my faves)
Music: https://www.wix.com/blog/photography/2019/11/27/free-music-for-videos/
Video: https://blog.hootsuite.com/free-stock-videos-sites/
You'll notice there's a lot of "shoulds" "coulds" "probably" etc. This is because copyright cases are all unique and go to the courts. The best bet is to go with stuff you KNOW is free and fair-use. If not, I'd look up copyright law, consult supreme court cases concerning copyright, and ultimately, talk to a lawyer.
AGAIN: I AM NOT A LAWYER. I AM NOT PROVIDING LEGAL ADVICE. I AM SIMPLY PROVIDING INFORMATION. THERE MAY BE ERRORS ABOVE THAT COULD CAUSE SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGES - CONSULT A COPYRIGHT ATTORNEY IF YOU WISH TO RECEIVE LEGAL ADVICE.

2024.06.09 23:22 Bikisbok Impressions with the Elysian Pilgrim and Moondrop dusk

Recently my orders for the pilgrim and dusk came in and I’d thought I’d give me thoughts. Fair warning I really only came into hobby a year and a half or so ago so I’m not the best with specific terminology but I’m going to do my best.
The Pilgrim
The pilgrim came first so it only felt right to start there. My main driver up to that point was the truth ear zero red. I was pretty happy with it but I thought I’d try the upper tier items to see how they compare. I was hesitant cause of the price point but I’d figured if the jump to to 300$+ IEM’s is anything like the jump from shitty earbuds to 20$ IEM’s it’d blow my mind and be worth it. And my first impression with the pilgrim was…I wouldn’t say disappointment but it wasn’t the leap I expected. It definitely sounded better especially with the details but it wasnt a giant leap. I can also say I felt the bass was somewhat lacking (more in quantity than quality) though I just used the impedance adapter that came with the zero red and that made it much better (for the purpose of this comparison though I’m using the pilgrim without this adapter as it doesn’t come with the IEM and didn’t use it for direct testing between them). Even without it though I would say the pilgrims are a good set, they’re just a tad too bright even if those upper notes sound good.
Unfortunately, while I do think the pilgrim is largely a good set, I somewhat mainly have negatives to say. My primary complaint is I really find them uncomfortable. I know the zero reds are a set that sorta infamously have the asterisk of not being for everyone due to comfort reasons but I could wear the reds all day without problems but the pilgrims got to be almost a pain pretty quickly. It’s less about the in ear and more the combination of the hard metal casing, the cables being more at an awakened angle rather than a curve at the front of the ear, and the weight of the IEM’s + cable pulling at the ear causing the front of the ear especially to not feel comfortable. At one point when listening to Sometimes I Moght be Introvert by Little Simz I was considering switching back to the reds because while not as good I felt they could be more relaxing.
Dusk
While I wasn’t super impressed with the pilgrim, I have to say I’m loving the dusk. The cable (at least the analog one) isn’t exactly the most premium but it’s comfortable and doesn’t get tangled easily which is really all I need, they go into the ear easily without the casing or nossle causing any difficulty, etc. I noticed the pins are a really tight fit which at first kinda felt like a hassle but considering how many times I’ve had the experience of an IEM coming loose after taking it on and off the cable I’d take a more secure fit over the extra few seconds of having to securely life it on and off, though considering one of the selling points for this IEM is the multiple cables it comes with it only felt right to mention that the process of switching isn’t exactly smooth.
On that note to talk about the dsp I think both sound good but yeah i preferred the dsp, one of the tracks when comparing dsp with analog was gone angels by mili where both were pleasant but for the dsp it just felt so smooth and like i could get lost in it. One of my concerns with dsp was i remember hearing Timmy from gizaudio say female vocals were a little recessed but after comparing with a few tracks by mili, beach house, Flo mili, and laufey, I can say while I do notice a difference I wouldn’t say they’re too recessed or even necessarily worse than analog. Unfortunately i do have an iPhone and in the words of Crin “If you’re on iOS, go fuck yourself” so yeah I’ve mostly been using the analog because of that and all direct comparisons between the pilgrim and dusk were done with analog because I didn’t feel like switching to the dsp cable and using my laptop. Kind of a bummer but I did find myself satisfied enough with the analog
As for the general sound everything just feels like it has volume to it but in a way which isn’t overwhelming or fatiguing. The sound stage is the thing I really noticed first, it feels a lot wider which combined with it not being as bright as the pilgrim helps it to feel less fatiguing and more ‘immersive’ in a sense. It’s strange because there are things that in a technical sense sense I think the pilgrim does “better” but even in songs which would benefit from those things I’d say dusk is better for me because it feels like more of a full package where no element is lacking. Like I’d say the pilgrim can be better for strings but to use the example of two of the songs I’d tested with, The Hustle by kiltro and Turkish Rondo by the Boccherini Guitar Quintet which have great strings to them, I’d say the dusk is better cause with the pilgrim I’d had the volume lower then I would’ve liked because the high sections felt a bit too much whereas with the dusk it felt like everything was balanced well and gave a full band like experience.
I think “experience” is the right word for how I would describe the difference. Both have their unique sounds but at the end of the day I’d say the pilgrim sounds good but the dusk sounds and feels good (both in a sense of the feeling of them physical IEM itself and the sound). The pilgrim is a set I could be happy with and get used to but whereas it was one I almost didn’t want to sit down for a full album with, with the dusk I just want to listen to as much as possible. It’s not outright better in every way but to me is a much better all rounder and conducive to what I want in my music listening experience. I’d even say aside from music its sound is something I find myself more comfortable with doing something like watching YouTube for an extended period of time.
In short, pilgrim is good but especially considering the price point if it was between this and the reds I already had, they’re better but I would return them as I don’t necessarily find them to be worth it. The dusk though, as much as I’m somewhat trying to talk myself out of spending $400 on iems when I already have a good pair, I’m likely going to keep them (and maybe look into a good lightning to usb-c adapter to use the dsp on my phone, if anyone knows of a good one especially one which also has a port for charging let me know)
Hopefully that made sense and could be helpful for anyone looking for comparisons between the two, I do have the super mix 4 coming next week and am planning to give my comparison/thoughts on those when they arrive. I’m honestly hoping I like them more than the dusk as I’ve heard some say they do because I’d be a lot more comfortable spending $150 then $400 for an upgrade.

The Struggles of Adapting Peak Fiction Under Strict Production Constraints
\"But why not do both?\"
This is a follow-up to my last post defending the anime's decision to cut content for the sake of pacing but let me give you the TL;DR so you don't feel the need to have read that one before this as this post covers the same bases (and then some): The anime is first-and foremost the story of Rudeus Greyrat and must therefore prioritize his perspective, even at the cost of other characters' moments, regardless of how beloved those individual scenes are to fans of the Light Novels (myself included).
So let me start by addressing the strongest counter argument made in response to that post: "But the first season, and even Cour 1 of season 2 was able to maintain excellent pacing while having relatively few cuts! Why does the pacing in cour 2 still *FEEL* so rushed in comparison despite cutting so much?" That is an astute observation! And, quite frankly, you are asking the right questions. And for anyone planning to skip straight to the end of this admittedly \daunting* essay, here's a TL;DR for you: Episodes 19 & 20's reduced quality and heightened pace were done deliberately to provide the last 4 episodes of the season the space they need to breathe.* Continue reading if you want to find out how and why this had to be done.
It would be a fool's errand to argue that Cour 2 is NOT cutting less content than prior cours (because it absolutely is, and by quite a lot too), nor will I be arguing that the cour does NOT suffer some level of pacing issues because it absolutely is (see first post), rather I will be arguing in defense of the purpose of limiting the scope of what gets adapted, and why such decisions are necessary in the first place. However, before I delve any further into the specifics of Cour 2's production struggles, first I should elaborate how its production schedule differs from S1.

PART 1: Production Scheduling (aka setting the pace)

In case you were unaware, Season 1 was originally slated to be released in 2020 but was delayed to January of 2021 so it could actually receive all of the extra care and polish it truly deserved. For S2, Studio Bind's production staff, by contrast, had to make due with the time they were initially given. More time (and consequently more budget) usually fixes most production issues, but very few (extraordinarily rare) series ever receive that benefit and doing so twice was likely never even considered a possibility.
Sadly we are not in the alternate timeline where S2 benefitted from the same advantages that gave us gorgeous custom world-building OPs for every episode that freed up even more additional screen time for dialogue and character development (in some cases literally depicting entire chapters such as Paul's POV being shown during Ep 17's STUNNINGLY well executed OP montage). Thanks in part to that decision, S1 had significantly more wiggle room to work with, especially pertaining to the secondary cast, allowing it to more evenly adapt the world building, character development, and main narrative plotline of Mushoku Tensei as a whole utilizing that extra runtime (90 seconds per episode adds up to a LOT over the course of an entire season, plus the 5 EDs, that were integrated as needed on a per-episode basis, for an additional 7 1/2 minutes which adds up to a WHOPPING 43 1/2 MINUTES over the course of that 24 episode run and I should point out that S2 Cour 1 ALSO benefitted from this for the first 5 episodes including the OVA, giving that cour an added 9 minutes to utilize with Cour 2 receiving a paltry 3 minutes as only the 1st episode integrates the OP/ED runtime).
It's simply the reality that polish and quality was prioritized for S1 while scheduling and budget were prioritized for S2. If you want to be especially harsh, one could say S1 was treated as art, while S2 was treated as a commercial product, which is why I've set my expectations accordingly and hope this post helps others do the same. This becomes more apparent when you take into consideration that Studio Bind were also working on Onimai at the same time as S2 given their air dates were only 6 months apart. So not only was S2 not being given the same scheduling priority, it was COMPETING for resources. Given the BD sales numbers for every project they've released, at a minimum we can be assured that Studio Bind has been financially successful at least but the double edged nature of that success also means that certain priorities may have shifted away from MT and towards the new cash-cow. There's a reason I phrased my previous post so specifically: These episodes are a fine adaptation of Rudy's story.... and not much else because it simply doesn't have the screen time or resources to focus on anything besides Rudy's share of the narrative and character development.
Which ties directly into the second reason as to why cour 2 FEELS so rushed, even in comparison to cour 1. The contents of Volumes 10, 11, and 12 are significantly more *LINEAR\* with more individual events being depicted compared to Volumes 1-9. This translates to more content vying for screen time. But how much content are we talking about here? Well, I don't want to go too deeply into raw numbers as that's not really the point but let's set a baseline with some quick-n-dirty math to illustrate:
S1c1 covers 1326 pg / 3 = 442 pg/vol (11 episodes) = 40.2 pg / ep S1c2 covers 1280 pg / 3 = 427 pg/vol (12 episodes + OVA) = 32.8 pg / ep S2c1 covers 1268 pg / 3 = 423 pg/vol (12 episodes + OVA) = 32.5 pg / ep S2c2 covers 1381 pg / 3 = 460 pg/vol (12 episodes) = 38.3 pg / ep
Obviously these are EXTREMELY rough numbers that don't take into account any of the cut content, non-chapter related pages, nor the difference in available runtime afforded to S1 that I previously mentioned, but just by raw page count, that's technically LESS content than what the first 11 episodes of Season 1 had to adapt! Surely they could just tweak a few things to make everything fit! Unfortunately, it's not that simple. You see, there's a distinct lack of a certain type of content that made the lives of the production staff significantly easier by providing plenty of opportunities to pick and choose what made it into the final cut of an episode's runtime to keep the mainline story of Rudeus chugging along at the leisurely clip we're accustomed to.

PART 2: Narrative Fluff (aka work smarter, not longer)

Spoiler: It's the sheer density of secondary character POVs. The very ones we often grieved being cut as the episodes were coming out during S1. They add depth and complexity to the characters (and are, imho, singularly the most *profoundly insightful* pieces of writing Rifujin-sensei has ever produced) but 90% of the time are simply repeating the same events from a new perspective. HOWEVER, when adapted to an audio-visual medium, you can SHOW both perspectives simultaneously and let the audience infer what's going on in a secondary character's mind through the use of voice acting, animation, staging, lighting, OST, and sound design thereby allowing the anime-only audience to receive 90% of the same information that was conveyed during those same events in the novels.
The "missing" Eris POV is the primary example of this disconnect between how little LN readers think Anime-onlys are inferring and how much is being successfully communicated to them even if they themselves can't properly articulate what it was they took away from any particular scene. I highly recommend paying close attention to Eris' face in the 3 following episodes after the events of Turning Point 2 RATHER THAN READING THE SUBTITLES (dub watchers have an advantage here but BOTH performances do an incredible job) and you'll see (and hear) what I'm talking about. Sure we don't get every beat of her thought process spelled out for us in quite the same level of detail as in her POV chapter, but you can sense her inner conflict while watching Rudeus practice Disturb Magic as they ride into the outskirts of Fittoa and her heartache at seeing him standing forlornly in the ruins of his destroyed childhood home. The idea that she doesn't feel "worthy" of him is already being communicated by her facial expressions and her body language. Her letter stating how they aren't "well-balanced" in combination with that visual information is already providing context clues to the viewer as to what's going on in her head. In her final scene you can hear the sheer depth of her love give way to a deeply instilled sense of self-loathing, just by the tone of her voice, as she hoists Rudeus up onto that pedestal. Yet as she nears the end of her melancholic monologue more of that brash, passionate nature of hers seeps back into her delivery as pours her heart out.
To quote Harry Plinkett: "It's so subtle, you might not have even noticed... but your brain did."
The only emotion you could argue was nerfed by the adaptation is the depths of her self-loathing for having "taken advantage of him" after their night together but they still get a line in about their age and size difference, which when heard in her self-flagellating tone describing how "awful" she's been to him, you can easily make that inference. But you might also say "AHA even in those 3 episodes they left out how devastated she was when Rudy beat her using the demon eye after she finally gained some confidence in her strength" to which I say: Watch Ep 13: Missed Connections and, again, pay attention to Eris. Every part off the Buffalo was used.
They also never deliberately spell out her ardent belief that Rudeus is so strong and smart and amazing and brave and perfect that regardless of whatever she wrote as she struggled to find the words to leave in her letter, he would just clairvoyantly understand her intentions.... but you don't really NEED that spelled out for you when her final appearance is her shouting to the high heavens about how in love she is directly juxtaposed with Rudeus reverting to his former self-image shut away in his bedroom after very specifically misunderstanding the meaning of her words and actions! "I LOVE THIS MAN she screams as the man she loves thinks to himself "I can't believe she doesn't love me anymore." Seeing that, anyone could conclude "Were you expecting him to just KNOW what you meant??" Yes. Yes she was.
The Eris' POV wasn't "skipped content"... it was integrated. It's broken up and repurposed in bits and pieces over the course of 4, count 'em, FOUR separate episodes but 99% of it is there if you know what to look for (which for anime onlys is considered rewatch value).
By going through this in such agonizing detail I hope I'm properly communicating one of the greatest hang ups LN readers seem to have (or adaptational purists in general) relative to their expectations: You are putting entirely too much value into dialogue, monologue, and the text of a script relative to every other element the medium has to offer. The absence of TEXT does not diminish the SUBTEXT. An individual viewer might not know WHY they believe a character motivation exists as it does, but by and large most will pick up on those details whether it be deliberate (in the case of a certain psychologist youtuber who keeps nailing plot predictions over and over BECAUSE ALL OF THE INFORMATION YOU NEED IS RIGHT, THE F**K, THERE) or subconsciously (in the case of most passive audience members).

PART 1 (COUR 2): THE RESCHEDULENING (aka MATH)

Now, having detailed how a POV chapter can actually be efficiently absorbed into the runtime of the show without disrupting or sidetracking the main narrative, let's re-examine the topic of how (as well as why) this affects the production schedule. As I previously stated, overall Volume 1-9 have quite a number of POV chapters to work around as buffers to the rest of the content. Don't believe me? Let me break it down a bit more then:
Vol 1 contains ~ 2 1/2 POV chapters out of 10 = 25% Vol 2 contains ~ 2 3/4 POV chapters out of 11 = 25% Vol 3 contains ~ 1 POV chapters out of 15 = 6.5% (one of the longer action heavy volumes, yet only 3 eps) On average ~19% of content is POV. Vol 4 contains ~ 2 1/4 POV chapters out of 12 = 19% Vol 5 contains ~ 4 POV chapters out of 11 = 36% Vol 6 contains ~ 2 1/4 POV chapters out of 15 = 15% On average ~23% of content is POV. Vol 7 contains ~ 1 1/4 POV chapters out of 8 (technically 9, short prologue + epilogue combined) = 15.5% Vol 8 contains ~ 2 POV chapters out of 12 = 17% Vol 9 contains ~ 3.75 POV chapters out of 12.5 (several very short POVs, adjusted for fairness) = 30% On average ~21% of content is POV. Vol 10 contains ~ 2 POV chapters out of 14 = 14% Vol 11 contains ~ 2 POV chapters out of 16 = 12.5% Vol 12 contains ~ 1 1/2 POV chapters out of 16 = 9% On average ~12% of content is POV. \Note* Several chapters are not purely dedicated to secondary character POVs but rather "cut aways" between Rudy's own perspective and are occasionally EXTREMELY short (I assigned 1/4 amounts for especially short POVs to give them weight, but to prevent over-representing them. Additionally while chapters vary in length they generally represent individual events which I feel is a more apt form of measurement to relate to the anime adaptation in place of page counts (you're not gonna find the table of contents, copyrights, or the author's afterward being adapted after all). These are VERY rough estimations and should not be taken as "objective" measurements.))
Look at that proportional difference for Volume 10-12 relative to the other cours. While production had the advantage of consistently folding a little more than 1/5 of the content into the current runtime the current cour has almost 10% more content competing for the same amount of screen time as the cour before it. In fact, it's significantly LESS screen time as only the 1st episode bypassed the OP/ED compared to Cour 1's 4 episodes (and if you include the OVA, cour 1 already had a 24 minute head start in addition to the extra 3 per ep for a whopping total of 36 extra minutes of runtime over cour 2), Even if we're exceedingly generous and assume the next 4 episodes skip the OP/ED each, that would still leave it at a 24 minute disadvantage just in comparison to cour 1, not to mention the additional screen time afforded to S1 as I've already covered.

Part 3: Screen Time as a Resource (aka Content / Time = Stress)

In a novel characters can engage in chapter length diatribes or strategic planning in their own heads, engage in "talking is a free action" whilst in a fight to the death, and all sorts of ridiculous temporal bending contrivances that simply do not translate to the screen where time is the single most precious commodity (unless you're a shonen protagonist charging up your kamehameha). So let's view this from the scriptwriters' perspective to understand why they are forced to make some very difficult choices. As you are starting work on your assigned episode(s), the show's production committee makes the call that while previously you were afforded as much as ~300 minutes (5 hours) to convey ~1K pages of material, this time you only get ~255 minutes (4 1/4 hours) to convey ~1200 pages of the same density of material. Much more information to convey in much less time and you only JUST BARELY scrapped by to include as much as you could the last 3 times. That's means that at a MINIMUM, 200 of those pages are destined for the cutting room floor.
Though speaking of shounen protagonists, action set pieces are extraordinarily useful for either expanding OR condensing a scene's runtime by exactly as much as you need to fit within an episode's runtime. Need to add time? Go balls-to-the-wall, high-octane, budget-melting sakuga insanity that outshines even the source material (Turning Point 2/Eris vs Assassins) or you can condense high page counts into surprisingly short runtimes while still conveying the impact and information stored in those several pages worth of text. High impact, malleable screen time, same information conveyed. More time to dedicate to world building and secondary character development. As such, S1 (cour 2 especially) had a TREMENDOUS amount of leeway in how much they wished to expand OR condense action scenes at their discretion compared to the (comparatively) action-lite S2 (for Cour 1 at least).
So then you might ask with Cour 2 revving up the action again, why is it instead CUTTING tons of those action scenes rather than merely truncating them to make space for dialogue scenes like the prior cours? The short answer is there's already no time to spare. The longer, more complex answer is action scenes can't exist in a vacuum. In the same way you have to accelerate and decelerate in your car evenly to get from point A to point B safely, you can't simply hit 0-60 mph in under 2 seconds and you certainly can't go from 60 to 0 in a fraction of a second unless you want an episodes' pacing to liquify like your internal organs. Before, during, and sometimes after a fight scene is initiated, several questions need to be answered for the audience like "Who/what is fighting?" "Where are they positioned?" "What is the level of threat?" "What are the stakes?" "What are the win conditions?" with greater or fewer questions depending on the complexity of the scene or it's meaning to the character(s). Failing to provide the audience adequate answers to these questions can easily result in a nonsensical farce.... unless that's literally your intention. Thankfully, the requirement for winding down action is much simpler. After a beat of heightened tension, your protagonist simply lowers their guard/weapon and the message communicated to the audience is "the threat is over" and within seconds you can move to the next scene.
Most major encounters follow this rhythm throughout the series, with individual chapters dedicated solely to these fights, spanning page counts that are generally (but not always) on the higher end. In general, there are only 1-2 major battles per volume. Vol 11 and 12, by contrast, have several chapters that contain a half dozen individual skirmishes apiece that make adapting the material a total NIGHTMARE to pick and choose what makes the cut. So as an example, a weirdly high amount of time is seemingly spent establishing the succubus encounter in ep 19. Why you may ask? So they could ride those same rules of engagement straight into the following montage to inform the audience "these fights possess the same rules of engagement we just established" without having to spend the additional time winding up each one individually (another, more humorous example, is Ruijerd "dueling" the 3 North God students in a row). The montage also pulls double duty by conveying both the passage of time and distance. You'd think truncating roughly 1/5 of the entire volume into a scant 60 seconds would give them plenty of extra time to work with, but sadly, the ability to condense content is still only enough to break even with the established pace.
Another major element that placed Season 2 at a massive disadvantage is that Season 2 had to use it's precious 25th episode OVA to *catch up* on content that was deferred from Season 1 as Sylphy's POV chapters starting all the way back in Vol 4 did not make the cut. So rather than getting a jump start, the OVA was actually just catching up on deferred content that could not be included DESPITE all of the tremendous advantages I've previously discussed. And even then, it still needed to skip all but a few scant details from the intervening chapters that bridge the gap between Sylphy becoming Silent Fitz and Ariel's entire entourage fleeing to Ranoa's University of Magic resulting in all but 5 of them being slaughtered by assassins in hideously gruesome fashion. In a nutshell, Season 2 actually only has 24 episodes to dedicate to itself, and most of the benefits of scheduling seems to have heavily favored Cour 1 over Cour 2.
At this point, assuming like everyone else who joined up with Studio Bind, you are yourself a massive fan of the series and absolutely love these novels, you are effectively being asked to CHOOSE your favorite children chapters to sacrifice in the name of ending the season at a satisfying arc conclusion. Sure you could just adapt at the same rate of chapters-to-screen time as before and conclude the final 12th episode with THAT THING THAT HAPPENS but somehow I feel like doing so would result in death threats being strapped to a brick and hurled through your office windows. You've certainly maintained the integrity of the show's original pacing, but telling fans to sit tight until the next production cycle is ready in another 2-3 years feels like a recipe for disaster.
And frankly, Vol 12 has some INTENSELY heavy dialogue/monologue scenes filing out the back half of the volume that are going to need significantly more screen time to convey the necessary information relative to the first half as it is ENTIRELY Rudy-centric. So the only way to get there with enough time to allow the season to reach a natural and satisfying conclusion and still hit all of the vitally necessary plot threads is to put those proverbial chapter babies containing some of your favorite character interactions and world building on the alter as a ritual sacrifice for more time on the clock. And what did those sacrifices get you? 5 episodes. A range of 105-117 minutes (depending on OP/ED usage) of screen time to cover the single densest volume since vol 3 (see above). Barely one episode ahead of pace (but in terms of available screen time still barely ahead) of prior cours. And if you think it's unfortunate that ACTION was being cut, oh lordy I have some *bad news for you.\*

Part 4: Screenwriting as an Artform (aka how write story gud)

"But why are they STILL so stretched for time if they have access to and are utilizing all of these time-saving techniques?" Well I'm hoping the previous 3 parts of this gargantuan multi-tiered super essay have helped establish the constraints Studio Bind are working under compared to the prior cours. Cour 2 is working with significantly LESS screen time, with MORE events to manage and they're already so stretched for time that even multi-chapter spanning story events like the Merchant caravan are being cut entirely, rather than merely abridged, to make up that difference.
The requirement for "essential viewing" grows ever higher as mundane scenes like coming in and out of the teleporter still HAVE to be given priority over fan-beloved moments of character development because as uninteresting as those kinds of expository, utilitarian scenes are, they serve a far more vital purpose in a screenplay for communicating to the audience the "BUT, THEREFORE, BECAUSE" flow of script writing (watch the video it's extremely short and a great explainer, but essentially "But = Complication", "Therefore = Next logical action", "Because = Character motivation for performing said action"). You literally cannot skip these unremarkable, bog standard scenes because doing so would commit one of the deadliest sins of storytelling that I was alluding to when discussing how to establish action scenes: The Discontinuity of the dreaded "AND THEN" statement. If you're watching a movie and it's a series of "and then this happened and then that happened and then this person showed up" it ceases to be less a story so much as watching someone's attention span annihilating slideshow of vacation photographs.
As an example, scenes like the ones that establish how, where, and why Rudy and Elinalise use the teleporter to get from Ranoa to Begaritt are slow, mundane, and heavily time consuming and yet are so absolutely necessary as a scriptwriter to take the time to make sure the audience can follow along the logical thru-line for how these scenes connect to one another. If you skip such seemingly trifling, yet necessary information, the audience is not going to react by saying "oh THAT SCENE I LOVE is coming up" but rather "wait, why are we in a desert?"
As an example I'll use the last 2 episodes to demonstrate. The logical flow of episode 19 into 20 proceeds as follows (some parts are truncated for *relative* brevity):
"Rudy needs to leave for Rapan. THEREFORE he tells everyone goodbye, BUT Nanahoshi knows how to teleport there. THEREFORE he changes his route with Elinalise. THEREFORE they get prepared BECAUSE they want to save Zenith, BUT Cliff proposes to Elinalise BECAUSE he feels his lack of commitment was making her nervous. THEREFORE Elinalise is caught off guard BECAUSE she originally intended to leave without telling him to break off their relationship. THEREFORE she accepts his proposal. THEREFORE they travel to the teleporter, BUT teleporters are considered a source of danger to adventurers. THEREFORE they study it first as a safety precaution. THEREFORE they verify it's safe operation and use it. THEREFORE they arrive in Begaritt, BUT they are attacked by a Succubus. THEREFORE Rudy needs to detox himself BECAUSE they want to keep their promise to Cliff and Sylphy. THEREFORE they continue their sexless journey, BUT they are attacked several more times. THEREFORE they kill the monsters and proceed with caution. THEREFORE they arrive in Rapan in ~6 weeks. THEREFORE Geese is surprised to see them when they arrive, BECAUSE he only sent the letter so recently. THEREFORE he takes them to see Paul. THEREFORE they reunite with Paul, BUT Paul has fallen back into depression BECAUSE they lost Roxy while failing to find Zenith. THEREFORE Rudy tells Paul about his marriage and pregnancy with Sylphy. THEREFORE Paul recovers BECAUSE of the joy and pride he feels for his son BUT still feels worthless BECAUSE of his failures. THEREFORE Paul finally notices Elinalise. THEREFORE he apologizes BECAUSE ....uh y'know that thing that happened. THEREFORE Paul and Elinalise reconcile BUT Paul is confused that she didn't sleep with Rudy BECAUSE of her curse. THEREFORE she explains her husband Cliff's magic tool BUT Paul can't believe she has a husband. THEREFORE they get into another spat BUT the rest of the party returns during their argument THEREFORE Rudy learns that Roxy is lost in the labyrinth. THEREFORE Rudy starts to panic as the party begins to squabble. THEREFORE Elinalise takes Rudy's shoulder to draw his attention BECAUSE she realized he was panicking. THEREFORE Rudy asks to be caught up on the situation. THEREFORE Paul describes the difficulty of the Teleportation Labyrinth. THEREFORE Rudy gives Geese the book detailing it's depths which he borrowed BECAUSE he would be using a teleporter to get to Begaritt, BUT it will take Geese time to read it. THEREFORE Paul calls the meeting to a close to allow Geese to adjust their strategy using the book. THEREFORE Rudy, Paul, and Lilia start talking, BUT Paul is still a crude dude. THEREFORE the topic turns to sex BUT Lilia is in denial about being a total sex freak. THEREFORE Paul teases her BECAUSE he knowns how much she likes it rough. THEREFORE they retire for the night after some locker room talk. THEREFORE they depart for the labyrinth the following day. THEREFORE they reach the labyrinth and begin their descent, BUT Paul is breaking formation to show off in front of Rudeus. THEREFORE Elinalise scolds him, BECAUSE she wants to keep her family safe. THEREFORE Paul flippantly dismisses her claims of thinking of him like a son, BUT he is unaware of their connection through Sylphy. THEREFORE they continue further into the Labyrinth maintaining their formation, BUT they encounter new monsters. THEREFORE Rudy starts to cast a spell, BUT Talhand advises him not to use fire BECAUSE it fills a room with poison BECAUSE the concept of carbon monoxide poisoning exists but isn't fully understood in this universe BUT he also advices not attacking the ceiling BECAUSE it could cause a cave-in. THEREFORE Rudy uses ice magic to kill the remaining monsters. THEREFORE they advance to the second stratum in proper formation. THEREFORE they breeze through the second formation and take a break before entering the third. THEREFORE Geese uses the opportunity to inform Rudy that the next section is where Roxy went missing and may still be near that area BECAUSE teleporter traps only warp victims within the same stratum. THEREFORE as they approach where they lost Roxy, Geese asks Rudy where he'd look for Roxy based on his intuition. AND THEN Using his intuition, Rudy notices condensation on a wall and uses his Roxy Odor Snoof Sense to detect Roxy's location through a damn wall despite being a contrivance BUT it's the same contrivance used in the source material THEREFORE shut up. THEREFORE we cut to Roxy BUT she's being surrounded by monsters. THEREFORE she casts numerous spells to hold them at bay, BUT she runs out of mana. THEREFORE she believes she's about to die BUT Rudy saves her just in the nick of time. THEREFORE Roxy is shaken to her core at the sight of the man who saved her despite not recognizing Rudy, BUT then her POV didn't play out the way it did in the novels THEREFORE LN purists got upset BECAUSE they assumed her POV had been cut BUT they forgot that Roxy's POV has always been shown tremendous favoritism by Studio Bind THEREFORE they jumped to conclusions unaware it would happen the following episode.

THEREFORE Calm down and let Studio Bind cook

Effectively the point I hope I have demonstrated is that there IS a logical and consistent thru-line from scene to scene to scene that an audience can follow (and if you want to improve as a screenwriter, this is a GREAT exercise to figure out what makes your favorite shows tick. It's basically the screenwriter's equivalent to tracing someone else' art as practice). Even these unfairly maligned episodes have a viewing experience that provides a consistent sense of pacing. But if you want to know WHAT precisely feels different about them? Well if I had chosen to break down episodes from any of the prior 3 cours (or the best episodes of this cour), you'd be seeing the word BECAUSE significantly more to fill out every action, reaction, and complication along the way. If "THEREFORE" and "BUT" are the easel and canvas, which are necessary to even begin the process of creating art, then "BECAUSE" is the screenwriter's paintbrush that allows them to breathe life and detail into the characters on screen. The prior 3 cours were awash with "BECAUSE" statements detailing why characters are behaving the way they are in every individual scene so if there's one crime that can legitimately be pinned against several episodes in the latest cour, it's "JUST 'CUZ."

PART FINAL: The TL;DR (aka the... tl;dr)

So having laid all this out in such verbose, granular detail, what exactly does all of this mean?
To put it bluntly, Season 1 being such a near-perfect masterwork of adaptation spoiled the ever loving hell out of us. Having gorged ourselves on that expectation, we've ruined our appetites because now such perks are simply anticipated as standard with a vocal minority now irked by the use of a standard OP simply because it follows the conventions of the medium or (stay with me here) committing the sin of appealing to shonen fans. I know, truly a crime worthy of sudoku because of 14 seconds depicting one of the single most important events in the series. I truly don't understand (seriously, explain it to me please).
The current cour is merely receiving the same treatment most adaptations are given while still outperforming its peers if weekly rankings are anything to go by. Episodes range from pretty good to excellent (Norn and Nanahoshi's spotlight eps being the highlights thus far despite some grumbling) with even the extremely barebones Ep 19 squeezing in what sparse worldbuilding nuggets it can despite the plot literally necessitating that Rudy book it from one side of the planet to the other within a 21 minute period (a production level pacing decision you are still free to criticize). As I said earlier (but it bears repeating) these episodes are a good adaptation of Rudy's story rather than the whole that makes up MT because it simply doesn't have the screen time to focus on anything that falls outside the scope of his perspective given the sheer breadth of competing narrative essential content. As a show, these episodes are still delivering a cohesive and engaging thru-line by being glued to Rudy's perspective. So as long as Rudy remains interesting to watch the audience will be more than satisfied.
Expecting the same anomalous level of dedication AND leniency from the production committee to happen for every season was unfortunately nothing but a pipe dream. Cour 2 is now being forced to make due with what it has and while they are doing a commendable job given the heavy restrictions, it is completely unreasonable to expect them to fit so much into such tight confines. It is the adaptation equivalent of being asked to fit everything into one grocery bag, but not wanting the bag to be heavy.
Could this cour have been scheduled better? Absolutely. Was it possible certain changes to the script or episode direction could have provided more opportunities to explore the cut content? Of course. Is it still a total bummer that the realities of production that have compromised the artistic integrity of our beloved peak fiction? Without a doubt.
We are simply going to have to get used to the fact that S1 may never be topped with our only hope being the return of the waifu-wars for S3 rekindles the beefs between animators vying for shot assignments (which may hopefully still be in the cards god willing).
Of course, I'm not a future seer, so maybe, just maybe, Studio Bind bursts into flames and all of the footage is lost resulting in the quality of the last 3 episodes to be the worst drop off of a television show since the final season of Game of Thrones. If that is the case then I'll be eating more crow than I ever have in my life. But if Studio Bind sticks the landing and delivers on the emotional climax to one of the most beloved arcs among the fanbase that we've anticipated for years, then please calm it down with these exaggerated "cutting content is ruining the show" claims.
Thank you from coming to my Ted Talk and enjoy the rest of the season everyone.

The Confirmed Hoax Fallacy
The Confirmed Hoax Fallacy An Old Argument Raises Its Ignorant Head Yet Again TEMPORAL RECON JUN 8
I was recently invited to write an essay by someone who I respect greatly in their own personal search for truth. He asked that, while an update to Conviction of a Time Traveler is not necessarily in the offing, he did wonder if I might be amenable to a friendly reminder of the evidence provided in COATT nearly a decade ago now.
What spurred his request was that he had noticed recently that several people online had been echoing the ‘confirmed hoax’ trope when discussions would might around to the John Titor series of posts which occurred online back in 2000/2001.
His noticing of this false argument was nothing new; I had also noticed it crop up from time to time over the last 20 years. I hold the ‘confirmed hoax’ argument in special and particular disdain. Why?
Primarily because evidence exists and was provided in Conviction of a Time Traveler in 2009 that Titor was legitimate and, ironically enough, was read by many of the so-called experts espousing the ‘confirmed hoax’ lie. So when these fake experts tell you that the Titor story was a ‘confirmed hoax,’ they are lying to you.
Conviction of a Time Traveler provided new and original evidence that has never, to date, been debunked since its publication; a full 14 years. The evidence provided (which many of these lazy forum participants are aware of) pointed to one, inexorable and inescapable conclusion: Titor was legit. But this evidence, while never disproven, is always ignored. Why is that? We’ll put a pin in that…

Ironically, not only has the evidence documented in Conviction of a Time Traveler never been debunked, but it has also even been plagiarized by lazy authors who can’t be bothered to do original research or, lacking the intellectual horsepower necessary to do even that, fail to provide appropriate attribution to their source material.
So what of this, ‘Confirmed Hoax’ claim? Is it true? HAS the John Titor episode actually been ‘confirmed’ as a hoax?
When someone in a position of pretend authority declares from their cardboard pedestal that the John Titor story is a ‘Confirmed Hoax,’ have you ever noticed they never provide the person who did the confirming?
“Confirmed hoax?” ‘Confirmed’ by whom, pray tell?
When the term ‘Confirmed Hoax’ is used, what imagery comes to mind? I dare say it implies that some sort of shadowy group of learned scholars sat around a big wooden table, carefully assessed and addressed the claims. All the evidence and counter-arguments were carefully measured while hidden away in some stone castle somewhere until a white puff of smoke curls over its stone-tiled rooftops, declaring to the world once and for all,
“Our confirmation is complete. John Titor was a hoax!”
Bullshit.
Here’s the dirty little secret of the ‘Confirmed Hoax’ statements: they are actually shorthand for,
“I don’t have the intellectual capacity to argue in favor or against, so in order to come off like some sort of authority and maintain my fake position of authority, I’ll just take the safest position and simply declare that the Titor story is a hoax, that it was ‘confirmed’ and let’s please just move on to some other topic.”
‘Confirmed Hoax,’ is a coward’s gambit, a bet, that there won’t be anyone to come along to rock the boat and topple these posers off their flimsy stage of pretend authority.
This was the environment I walked into when I first published Conviction of a Time Traveler in 2010, and apparently, it hasn’t changed in 15 years.
When I first posted on Paranormalis (IIRC) announcing that I had written a book that documented the evidence in favor of Titor’s veracity, the then-reigning Titor authority (‘Darby’) haughtily pronounced, “Present your evidence and we’ll discuss it.”
Share
It was in that moment that I chose a path that nobody before me had ever embarked upon. I said, “No.”
Nobody had ever said ‘no’ before. There are pages and pages of forum posts by people before me who discovered some of the same bits and pieces that I discovered that pointed to Titor’s truth. And they were excited to show what they had discovered! And, owing to their excitement, and unfortunately, their naivete, they excitedly shared their evidence, wrongfully believing that the forums’ leadership was interested in getting to the bottom of the Titor episode.
Little did they suspect that ‘Darby’ and others were acting as gatekeepers of truth, whose sole purpose was to establish and maintain a lid on the narrative that was the John Titor episode. He, and his ilk gaslighted and bullied these poor naifs into silence by using their fake authority to debunk and explain away the very real evidence they had discovered.
That is, until COATT was published.
Unfortunately for these enemies of Truth, the internet is forever. In my research leading up to the publication of Conviction of a Time Traveler, I had the benefit of not only studying Titor’s posts, but also all the follow-on discussions after their departure.
I reviewed literally years of online forum content and, as I did so, I made a very curious observation: in all the years of discussion after Titor departed, not one piece of evidence ever (ever) caused ‘Darby’ or any of the other fake authorities to question their ‘it’s a hoax!’ position. They NEVER saw a piece of evidence that they didn’t dismiss, mock, ignore or explain away with contortions of logic that would make Wetzel’s Pretzels blush. This is in stark contrast to how someone who was truly in search of truth would act.
If ‘Darby’ and the others truly were curious, isn’t this a little odd? Really? Not ONE piece of evidence ever caused ‘Darby’ to pause and say, “hmm, that’s interesting…”
Not once, ever.
And there are years of forum posts to confirm this.
So, when Darby commanded from his perch of fake authority that I ‘present my evidence so that we might discuss it’ I laughed in his face [paraphrasing],
“No. A real discussion of the evidence hasn’t occurred here for years, and I do not recognize your so-called position as some sort of ‘expert’ on the Titor story. LITERALLY EVERYTHING there is to learn, or study, is published in the Titor posts for all to read. You hold no special knowledge, no special position, no special nothing. I do not submit to your fake authority. You want to learn about Titor, read the book.”
Or words to that effect, anyway…
In the end, the evidence provided in COATT was so unassailable and the argument so solid that ‘Darby’ and his ilk suddenly became more and more quiet as they slowly realized I wasn’t going to wilt under their “authoritay.” Eventually, they slinked away with their rhetorical tails tucked.
But this was not the end of the story! Because ‘time travel’ had become quite the pet interest of mine (owing to the further evidence I discovered after publication), that I continued to post online in various discussion forums. I even wrote numerous essays on a variety of topics, all spurred on by the ‘time travel’ question and all its implications.
Fast Forward Fast forwarding to today, we’re back at the ‘confirmed hoax’ argument again. What was once offered up (“HOAX!”) by Darby and others, is now cold soup served by the latest crop of fake authorities. And what happens when fake authority utters the ‘Confirmed Hoax’ discussion-brake? The same thing that happened a decade ago: the earnest neophyte shrugs their shoulders secure in the false belief that others smarter than they have studied the topic and arrived at some irrefutable conclusion; no further discussion necessary (or allowed). They have no idea just how close they came to uncovering something truly fantastic, had they only relied on their own judgment instead of the know-nothing proclamations of others.
Pledge your support
Which brings me to why I wrote COATT in the first place. Instead of simply doing my research and arriving at my own (private) conclusion, I realized that too many people were believing fake authority and ignoring Titor’s warnings about our future. Once I realized that Titor was legitimate (caveated, of course), how could I NOT share my findings? The stakes were simply too high.
IF what Titor said were true 24 years ago, that the world was heading for an upending change in the status quo, and that many people would die as a result of it, how could I remain silent and not inform others that his warnings were something to be listened to? Perhaps people with ears to hear might take heed and make the appropriate preparations. I know I did.
But, as my friend has informed me, it appears that the fake experts have reared their ugly and useless heads once again telling us that there is ‘nothing to the Titor story’ and that it is a “confirmed hoax.”
THIS was the reason that I was recently asked to provide my evidence once again. And THIS is the reason this essay is dragging on. These pretenders to authority are like roaches; as soon as the exterminator leaves, they come out of the woodwork intent on dismantling the Truth once again. God’s work never ends, it seems, even with a 99% success rate…
So, now that we’ve got all THAT out of the way, and as a sort of transition, I’d like to bring you up to speed on what I’ve been up to since I published Conviction of a Time Traveler in 2010.
To be perfectly frank, after COATT’s publication, I thought I was done with the Titor story; I had said my piece and was perfectly willing to move on with my life and prepare for the event that causes the change in the status quo. But the annoying fact was that the Titor story itself didn’t end with the cessation of Titor’s posts in 2001.
As new evidence appeared in the months and years following publication, like dog shit on my shoe that I can’t scrape off, I could never cleanly cleave myself from the Titor story. Not that I wanted to, mind you, it is a fascinating topic, regardless of your opinion.
But what surprised me the most was that new evidence continued to appear, year after year. And, as more evidence appeared, my curiosity was consistently kept piqued and on alert. Trust me, it is exhausting.
To give you a sense of what I discovered, I can tell you that your experts are wrong and that ‘time travel’ is neither novel nor unusual; we are very literally awash in ‘time travelers.’ My research suggests that ‘time machines’ have been present in our past going as far back as 850AD. But I digress.
Share
Suffice it to say that the Titor rabbit hole is but one example of a massively large group of programs from an unknown number of organizations from across time. The ‘time travel’ question runs much deeper (and much farther back in time) and crosses over into more (so-called) esoteric topics than anyone gives it credit for. As I said, it’s exhausting.
My whole point here is that, even after I published in 2009, my curiosity in the topic (and its implications of yet larger vistas) did not wane. And, because of this continued and unabating curiosity, I discovered yet more evidence, crafted more theories and came to more conclusions.
A philosopher once described the acquisition of new information as an ever-expanding circle surrounding the man; a horizon where known and unknown meet where new answers only beget new questions which push the circle farther and farther out. This has been my experience over the last 15 years re the Titor narrative and the larger ‘time travel’ question. How could it be otherwise?
Unfortunately for you, you are being convinced by fools that the Titor episode is a ‘Confirmed Hoax.’ You haven’t even made the leap to the possibility that ‘time travel’ is even possible. How can you explore the implications of ‘time travel’ when you can’t even consider its reality, a fundamental starting point? I have a very strong (ehem) conviction that our collective naïveté on the subject will be violently revoked in the very near ‘future.’
The Two Camps, The Two Mistakes During my research, I observed that within the Titor commentariat there are two basic camps: the Debunkers and the True Believers.
The Debunking camp will provide any contortion of logic to maintain the ‘Titor was a hoax’ narrative.
The True Believers, on the other hand, will believe any contortion of logic that maintains their belief in The Gospel of John.
What if I told you both camps were wrong?
Now, the debunking camp will tell you that Titor must be a hoax because his predictions didn’t come true. Oh, well…his predictions didn’t come true? I guess we’re done then? Obviously, his whole purpose for posting was to make predictions like some Magic Eight Ball, right? And if those don’t pan out, well, ‘CONFIRMED HOAX!’
Get the Book
On the other side of that coin, the True Believers out there, who never saw a confirmation bias they didn’t love, will tell you that Titor’s predictions didn’t come true because he changed the future. This of course is a recipe for explaining away literally any detracting evidence thus making Titor true no matter any evidence to the contrary.
Let’s take the True Believers first:
The concept of Divergence, while a handy explanation, does not/cannot explain all differences in histories away. In fact, were what Titor said was true (remember, we are True Believers for the moment and are taking Titor’s words as gospel) he absolutely must take measures to minimize divergence as much as possible and NOT allow it to span wildly. Otherwise, the entire power of the ‘time machine’ is rendered moot. I accept that Divergence is likely a real measurement necessary for the efficient execution of ‘time travel’ missions, but it should, by no means, be the magic skeleton key to explain away every question.
In fact, while divergence is very likely a real ‘thing’ or artifact or measurement of difference between world lines, the Truth is that divergence must absolutely be kept to a minimum to make any practical use of the gravity engine sitting in the back seat of your old blue Geo Metro.
So, no. Divergence cannot be the handy tool we need to contort ourselves into believing, as much as we might like to.
Now for the debunkers:
The debunkers have a variety of options available to them to argue that Titor was a ‘confirmed hoax.’ Regardless, these arguments typically boil down to two primary classes:
He has special training or knowledge, and/or
He’s just a lucky guesser.
Unfortunately for the debunkers (and those who listen to them), these explanations make a very serious error: that predictions are a relevant metric to judge Titor’s truth at all. They are not.
Serious question: Why should a ‘time traveler’ be subject to the same metrics that a psychic is to determine if his claims of ‘time travel’ are true?
The point here is that you can’t compare a horse to a whale and complain that the horse can’t swim. They are two completely different animals, and the same goes for ‘time travelers’ and psychics or tarot readers or any other domain whose reputation is dependent on the true-ness of the information they provide. Comparing Titor’s predictions to actual, experienced history is also an imperfect and inappropriate metric if one is to objectively assess Titor from a blank slate starting point. This points to a much deeper insight into the true purpose of the Titor posts, but that’s for a different day.
So, because of both these problems, any real researcher worth their salt would have to find some other way to determine the truth/falsity of the Titor narrative.
Remember, when first approaching the Titor question as an objective investigator, Titor is both equally a hoax and legitimate. Imagine Schrodinger’s cat meets Columbo…
I’ll give you this observation for free, just to get your juices flowing:
Did you notice that absolutely none of John’s predictions (event + date) came true, but all his statements concerning conditions about our future did?
Don’t you find this interesting? Or hadn’t you noticed, too blinded by the bright and shiny, attention-grabbing predictions of nuclear war?
But I am getting ahead of myself; we still haven’t provided the evidence that it’s simply more likely that Titor was an actual time traveler than some ‘hoaxer genius.’ And so we finally get to the whole point of this essay in the first place, a reminder and summary of the evidence first provided in Conviction of a Time Traveler all the way back in those halcyon days of 2010:
  1. Wireless Internet: Titor correctly predicted the advent of wireless internet when we were still using dial-up modems and America Online. Cable internet connections had only just been introduced.
“My closest friend raises horses and another works for a company that maintains “wireless” Internet nodes.”
– J. Titor, Nov 7, 2000
  1. YouTube becoming like ‘live theatre’: Titor correctly predicted the social evolution of YouTube and the decentralization of entertainment away from Hollywood evolving from short videos of grannies and cute kittens on Youtube to a sort of “live theatre” where actual shows would be presented by literally anyone, online, in a world that hadn’t even seen streaming services or video sharing services such as Rumble, etc.
“Yes, there is an entertainment industry. Again, it is very decentralized. The technology to express yourself with video is so readily available that many people do it all by themselves or in small groups. Much of the distribution is over the web. I would compare it theater here.”
-J. Titor
  1. IBM 5100 special capabilities: The statement that kicked everything off. Titor correctly identified the secret capabilities of the very first desktop computer manufactured by IBM in the 1970’s. These capabilities were utterly unknown and unacknowledged until Titor’s appearance in 2000. Interestingly, using this information, I was able to determine the most likely candidate of Titor’s grandfather which, upon this identification, also explained why Titor had to go all the way back to 1975 to pick up a copy of the 5100 and not 1985, 1995, or ‘elsewhen.’
“I was “sent” to get an IBM computer system called the 5100. It was one the first portable computers made and it has the ability to read the older IBM programming languages in addition to APL and Basic.”
– J. Titor, Nov 15, 2000
  1. VOIP: Titor correctly predicted the development of phone calls being run across the internet, again, in a time where downloading a picture over dial-up took minutes.
“Many people use the Internet for communication and entertainment. I would say that affects our speech. We type very fast.”
– J. Titor, Feb 15, 2001
  1. Soldier’s Winter Poem: Titor correctly predicted the poem, by name, “A Soldier’s Winter” and its topic. There is more to this particular prediction and statement about “A Soldier’s Winter“ than meets the eye, however.
“A Soldier’s Winter.”
-J. Titor, Feb 21, 2001
  1. Second gulf war: Titor correctly predicted a second incursion into Iraq by allied forces. There is also more to this statement by Titor as well. But that’s a little advanced for right now.
“Are you really surprised to find out that Iraq has nukes now or is that just BS to whip everyone up into accepting the next war?”
-J. Titor, Feb 25, 2001
  1. WMD and ‘hype’: Titor correctly predicted that the WMD story was hype and not to be believed (also, there is more to this statement than is visible on the surface). This statement’s purpose is closely related to statements #6 and #9.
“Are you really surprised to find out that Iraq has nukes now or is that just BS to whip everyone up into accepting the next war?”
-J. Titor, Feb 25, 2001
  1. Optical Measurement for atomic clock: A biggie. Titor correctly predicted the development of a new sort of atomic clock and the reasons why it was an improvement over the then-current ‘radio’ method of atomic measurement (more precise).
Specifically, atomic clocks determine the length of a second by measuring the frequency of a particular atom. Cesium, Rhodium, etc. Measuring this frequency is done using something called the “radio method” which makes use of a gas and hitting that gas and atom with a microwave (the ‘radio’ part of the measurement). However, Titor claimed that a new ‘time machine’ had been developed that makes use of an optical means of measuring the atom’s frequency, an improvement. The Optical Frequency Comb was developed after Titor’s departure which enabled the measurement of an atom’s frequency optically, and which also allowed for greater precision in that measurement. Titor’s statement is a 3-fer:
He predicts an optical measurement system for atomic clocks.
He predicts the new system measures oscillation and not some other aspect.
He predicts this new system increases measurement precision and not some other aspect.
“The C206 uses 6 cesium clocks but they use an optical system to check the oscillation frequency. This makes the worldline divergence confidence much higher.”
– J. Titor, Nov 7, 2000
  1. Ginger: The most enigmatic piece of evidence and what originally spurred me to look closer at this ‘confirmed hoax’ in 2010. In the very opening of Titor’s posts in 2000, someone asked three questions to allow Titor to ‘prove’ he was legitimate. Those questions were:
“1. What was the final death count in the recent India earthquake?
  1. What is the "Ginger" (IT) invention?
  2. Who wins the Stanley Cup (Hockey) this year?”
  • M. Kolesnik, Jan 29, 2001
As you see, questions 1 and 3 are of the magic eight ball variety and are wholly inappropriate to assess Titor’s truthfulness. But we’ll extend some grace to Mr. Kolesnik as it was so early on in their discourse. And Titor demurred on answering these two questions anyway. He refused to answer the first question because he claimed he simply didn’t know. And he refused to answer the third question because he felt it to be unfair for someone to earn money using his information (pointing to a larger context of rules by which they operate).
But, the middle question, ‘…what is Ginger…’ did not violate either of those two questions so he acquiesced and answered it. He answered by saying,
“It looks like a sort of motorized scooter. What do you think IT is?”
– J. Titor, Jan 29, 2001
This answer immediately got my attention because, in 2000 when the question was asked, the answer was truly unknown, thus Mr. Kolesnik’s question. However, in 2009 when I was first looking into the Titor narrative, I knew what Ginger was because I remembered it. Hindsight truly was 20/20.
As a bit of background, during 1999 (the exact timing escapes me), a ‘viral’ marketing campaign was underway by an inventor named Dean Kamen. While never revealing what this new product was, the billboards merely asked,
“What is IT?”
or
“What is Ginger?”
That was all they said. It is obvious now, and was obvious even then, that Kamen was attempting to create a buzz for his new invention. Fair enough. It also explains why it was asked of Titor in 2000. Kamen’s ad campaign was working! People were truly wondering.
Now understand, the hype (and I use that term specifically) surrounding the Ginger ad campaign was fairly strong. Kamen predicted that his invention would reinvent how people moved about cities; it would cause their utter redesign and how they were laid out and organized. Big claims, to be sure. So strong in fact that Kamen was able to land a spot on Good Morning America where he finally revealed what his invention was.
In December of 2001, and live on the air, Kamen, with Katie Couric, revealed Ginger to the world. Ginger was none other than the Segway.
And what did Titor say it was?
“A type of motorized scooter”
And Stella says there’s nothing more to learn…
Get the Book
Titor’s absolute spot-on declaration of what Kamen’s invention was nearly a year before it was unveiled hit me right between the eyes. Eight years later, I already knew that Ginger was the Segway because I remembered the event.
Here was a maniac on the internet claiming to be a ‘time traveler’ and he correctly ‘guessed’ what Ginger was a mere 2 ½ hours after it was asked and 11 months before it was officially unveiled?
It was Titor’s statement here that caused me to look deeper (much deeper, in fact) into the Titor narrative and, after exhaustive research and extensive supporting evidence, I concluded that Titor was in fact, legitimate.
Now here’s the truly interesting part of this piece of the Titor saga: you can’t find this statement about Ginger online anywhere anymore. It has been scrubbed from online sources everywhere.
Now, when I first discovered the Titor story, I saw that there appeared to be a couple different versions of the posts and I just, by chance, found a version of the posts with the Ginger reference in it. I saw that some versions had the Ginger reference, and some did not. At the time, I did not know how to understand this. But I do now.
Revisiting Old Theories As I mentioned before, hindsight is 20/20, and that is especially true when discussing ‘time travel’ and ‘time travelers.’ So, it seems oddly appropriate to provide a few examples of updated information that only revealed themselves with the fullness of time after publication.
‘leader’ In Conviction of a Time Traveler, I found the following quote especially interesting:
“The President or “leader” in 2005 I believe tried desperately to be the next Lincoln and hold the country together but many of their policies drove a larger wedge into the Bill of Rights. The President in 2009 was interested only in keeping his/her power base.”
  • J. Titor, Feb 19, 2001
And it wasn’t necessarily the full content of Titor’s statement here, it was those damn quotes around the word ‘leader.’ Why would he put quotes around a word so simple in its definition? In COATT, I surmised that Titor was referring to Obama at the time for a variety of reasons. Namely the very high coincidence factor between facts surrounding Obama and Lincoln. My own belief also was that Titor would not consider Obama as the rightful leader of the United States due to the known problems with his birth certificate, thus making him ineligible for the Presidency. Thus, Titor wrote ‘leader’ with those quotes around it indicating his misgivings.
Of course, here we are 24 years after Titor’s statement and 12 years after I wrote COATT, and I have now come to a different conclusion about the quotation marks around the word ‘leader’. I now surmise that Titor was referring to Biden and not Obama when he wrote that. Because I personally didn’t have a ‘time machine’ at the time, I never could have expected the dementia patient currently ‘in’ the White House and supposedly ‘leading’ the country. For anyone watching, it is patently obvious that Mr. Biden isn’t ‘leading’ anything. So, in the context of this and our current national situation, those quotation marks sure make a hell of a lot more sense now, don’t you think? This reassessment obviously puts a giant bullseye on the 2024-2025 time period for what Titor commented upon in 2000.
So, yes. I have reassessed this particular conclusion since publishing Conviction of a Time Traveler due to the slow passage of time and its equally slow revelation of Truth.
Gates Another interesting comment by Titor had to do with Bill Gates. Recall that in 2000/2001, Bill Gates was ‘merely’ the CEO of Microsoft. He was among the richest men in the world and many news stories of the time commented upon this fact. Almost kind of like Elon Musk’s notoriety in both scope and scale. So, as such, a forum participant named ‘Joe’ asked Titor for any information regarding Bill Gates’ future. Titor’s response?
“This I do know but I won’t discuss.”
-J. Titor, Feb 23, 2001
An interesting, if not completely unhelpful, answer. Wouldn’t you say?
Considering we now know how Gates has morphed from Tech Titan selling mediocre products to Farmland baron, GMO mosquito breeder and mRNA advocate and (alleged) mass murderer in India and elsewhere in the third world, Titor’s statement that he does know about Gates’ future rings true.
In fact, what was also a bit interesting was when someone later pressed him on any information regarding Gates’ future. To which he responded,
Just curious, why is he of such interest?
-J Titor, Mar 5, 2001
Considering what we know now about Gates and his predilections (his ‘wife’ deserted him upon revelation of his visits to Epstein Island), I’m willing to bet that John was naturally curious as to why Gates, of all people, was of such interest to the forum participants that they would ask twice about him. Coincidence? Or did Titor suspect a mole from a different program in the forum? Who knows. His curiosity about their curiosity in Gates is interesting, nothing more.
Conclusion And there you have (some of) it. A summary of some of the evidence documented in Conviction of a Time Traveler written nearly 15 years ago. The evidence contained in that small book has never been debunked or disproven. It has been plagiarized by some and ignored by others. If you were unaware of COATT and are a regular participant in the online discussions about ‘time travel,’ you should ask yourself why the ‘leadership’ on those forums never mention COATT. Curious, don’t you think?
The reason I wrote COATT in the first place was because, after I had done my own research to satiate my own personal curiosity, I realized that some people online were downplaying his posts’ importance in the hopes that they could dissuade people from believing in Titor and the possibility of ‘time travel.’
I saw this dishonesty and decided to fight back against it by merely providing the information I discovered. From my point of view, Titor was warning us about a very severe time in our future that would upend the status quo and was to be a highly dangerous one.
Taken at face value (always a good starting point), Titor’s warnings merited being taken seriously. Had the naysayer’s deceit been left unanswered, how many of you would have failed to prepare for what is just around the corner? You have prepared, haven’t you?
And yes, as is readily obvious to many, those hard times are right around the corner. Looking at Titor’s statements 24 years later and simply looking around at the state of America and the world, do his statements seem so outlandish now?
John’s ‘final’ words to the forum in March of 2001 ring eerily prescient now:
Bring a gas can with you when the car dies on the side of the road.
-J. Titor, Mar 23, 2001
It is my sincerest hope that my small book project (and the essays that followed) spurred you to think twice about the world we live in and take the necessary actions you feel you should to keep you and your family safe for the world’s awakening and rebirth.

2024.06.09 21:57 Bikisbok Impressions with the Elysian Pilgrim and/vs Moondrop dusk

2024.06.09 19:26 sdpodfg23 Additional character backstories

I have some players who struggle to imagine new characters so I've created some additional backstories to help them having something to RP from for the first few sessions.
I'd appreciate some feedback before I implement this in our upcoming campaign.
The idea is that the characters have just been through some very tumultuous events (their villages being invaded and destroyed) and are not entirely whole as a result.
Players make a choice from the first list on how their character reacted to these traumatic experiences, and then get the corresponding backstory + hindrance from the second list. Eg., if they choose "The Road to Hell", they get "Insecure".
The hindrances they get are not meant to be permanent, and I'll encourage them to roleplay them to a conclusion, after which I'll come up with a reward that fits.
Player choice:
  1. THE ROAD TO HELL You are righteous and confident in your abilities. You gather a group of followers, train with them… and then lead them to their deaths. The sole survivor sticks around, though you aren’t sure why.
  2. MOST FRIENDSHIP IS FEIGNING You are confused, lonely and hungry. A group of survivors share their meal with you and invite you to sit by their campfire. You travel with them, and over time, they start to demand favours to prove your friendship.
  3. FLUSTER’D WITH FLOWING CUPS You find solace in drink, and it slowly takes over your life. You isolate yourself from the friends and family who remain, and get drunk. Every day.
  4. AND RAPT IN SECRET STUDIES Faced with the undoing of your way of life, community, and world, you react… by focusing even harder on your work. Ongoing events all seem so distant and irrelevant, compared to honing this one particular talent...
  5. WITH GAIN SO FOND You become obsessed with the village smith’s family heirloom, a famous weapon. During the final attack on your village, instead of facing the invaders, you sneak into the smithy but are discovered mid-theft. You leave the place with the weapon in hand, covered in blood.
  6. BLUNT NOT THE HEART As the indignities and deprivations pile on, something finally snaps. In response to a perceived insult, you viscously attack a close friend and leave them seriously injured. You are chased away from your village.
  7. GOD HATH GIVEN YOU ONE FACE A practicing member of your religion, you react to the events by deepening your devotional activities. Those around you are inspired by your faith. Yet under the surface, not all is as it seems.
  8. NEVER TASTE OF DEATH BUT ONCE When bandits waylay the refugees you are traveling with, you stride forward to stop them. Surprised by your ferocity, they run away, leaving one of their own dying on the ground, and yourself seriously injured.
  9. O, WHAT PORTENTS ARE THESE? You did what you had to do to survive the disaster. You did things—questionable, unsettling things—that you will never forget, though the only witness left is yourself.
  10. IT IS A TALE SIGNIFYING NOTHING The events passed by in a blur. You don’t recall taking any actions to survive, and it must be by sheer good—or bad?—fortune that you do. You dust yourself off and carry on, but can’t shake the feeling that life is passing you by.
  11. LOSE THE GOOD WE MIGHT OFT WIN Throughout the crisis you do your best to help those around you, sharing the little you have and sparing no energy in the defence of others. Your efforts make hardly any difference at all, but you can't shake the feeling you should have done more.
  12. TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE You navigate the crisis by trusting your instincts. Never mind that you leave behind you a trail of wrecked friendships, resentment and destruction… you’re still here, and that’s thanks to following your gut.
  13. HE HATH EATEN ME OUT OF HOUSE AND HOME You turn to the contents of your larder to deal with your deep sense of despair… a larder that is supposed to feed several others during the crisis.
  14. THAT SOMETIMES SAVOURS NOBLY Your limited resources are spent increasingly on just surviving… when you see others who have managed to hold on to their precious objects, you feel a deep, dark jealousy.
  15. WILL AS TENDERLY BE LED The events you witness reawaken an instinct that has been suppressed since and a period when small village animals turned up decapitated, flayed or dismembered.
  16. MY DULL BRAIN WROUGHT Your reaction to the events… what events?

Result:
  1. INSECURE Your self-confidence is broken and you constantly doubt your own abilities. Lose 1 Empathy. Your Pride dice is a d6, not a d12. Gain a follower who does not require pay, but who you feel is always watching your actions... judging you silently?
  2. GULLIBLE The crisis has accentuated your trust in others, to a fault. -3 to Insight (this can be a negative number). Lose your starting money. You can ask your new 'friends’ for favours, but they’ll expect more in return.
  3. ADDICTED When your village is burned down you are so drunk you don’t notice, and wake up in a smouldering ruin. You must drink wine, mead or similar every day, otherwise you take 1 agility damage when waking up for every day missed. You also struggle to drink moderately, becoming drunk unless you succeed an Empathy roll.
  4. INDIFFERENT You view events around you with impatience, thinking only to return to your life’s work. Lose 1 Wits. Increase one of your starting professional talents to rank 2.
  5. COVETOUS You acquire the object of your desires, but at what cost? Gain a d8 artifact weapon or helmet; you must describe it's origin, as you understand it. All remaining members of the village will recognise it. Anytime you leave it behind or it gets damaged, and for every Quarter you are separated from it, suffer 1 Empathy damage.
  6. ANGRY Fueled by rage, you set about your work with new intensity, but it threatens at all times to boil over. Add a red d6 to all your rolls. On a 6 it counts as a success (X) but on a 1, you attack the nearest person until you, or they, are unconscious. Gain the Berserker talent.
  7. FRAUD The heights of your religious performance are matched only by the depths of your doubt. Everyone looks to you as an example, and you cannot admit to them--or yourself--that you no longer believe. Maintain the trappings of devotion: 1. gain a Heavy religious icon you must carry at all times, 2. pray for a quarter every day, 3. give half of your earnings to the poor and 4. always help those in need. Every time someone sees you fail to do one of these, take an Empathy damage you can only heal by carrying out that action.
  8. MAIMED Your right knee has never been the same and moving too quickly becomes agony. You must succeed an Agility roll to run as a Fast action. The refugees you saved idolise you and will always take you in.
  9. TRAUMATISED Your nights are haunted by your actions, though they may have been justified. Every quarter you sleep, make an Empathy roll. If you fail, take one Empathy damage and become Sleepy.
  10. LISTLESS You struggle to find the will to care or even continue. Earn 1 fewer Experience Point per session.
  11. INADEQUATE Your efforts are never enough, and you set yourself unrealistic standards you invariably fail to meet. Whenever you fail a roll, take a stress dice. Whenever you roll, roll your stress dice too—on a 1, take 1 Empathy damage for every stress dice you have. Sixes counts as a success (max 1). Sleeping reduces stress dice by 1.
  12. IMPULSIVE You would describe your behaviour as ‘instinctual’ or ‘spontaneous’, but the people around you—and those who know you keep a distance—use words like ‘impulsive’ or ‘unpredictable’. You must use Willpower points in the game session where you gain them; you cannot store them between sessions.
  13. GLUTTONOUS Food becomes a comfort for you, then a hobby, then an obsession. Decrease your Agility by 1. You must consume two Food per day. If you do not, you become Hungry.
  14. JEALOUS You cannot bear to see others receive more than you. Any time another player receives greater benefit or reward than you, take 1 Empathy damage. At the start of every day, if another player has something nicer than you (eg., better armor, an artifact when you don’t have one, etc), take 1 Empathy damage.
  15. SADISTIC You are obsessed with harming other beings. Gain one fewer experience point per session. Each time you harm another being, you gain an experience point (max of 2 per session). To qualify for the experience point, the harm inflicted has to be greater than the previous times (this counts within a session as well as across sessions)
  16. AMNESIAC Your memory and sense of self have been scattered to the four winds. Can you piece yourself back together? You get -1 to all skill rolls. Each time you succeed in pushing a skill roll in reaction to a real danger, you remove the penalty from future rolls for that skill, and you recover a piece of your memory that you may choose to narrate to the group.

A brief visualisation and explanation of the Unipolar Magnet - VU Tech problem + R Code
So for the people that aren't familiar with this problem:
Unipolar Magnets (UPM) are a rare alien resource that only generate on the planets around the black hole and neutron star. The spawned quantity isn't very high and you will usually only have around ~6-10m total in a cluster depending on settings. In my current playthrough I had 6m. You need them to easily craft particle containers and they're the only way to craft plane smelters. You need particle containers for green cubes so you can imagine that you will need a ton if you wanna rely on the advanced recipe for particle containers.
The idea is that if you get the Vein Utilization tech (VU) high enough (each lvl decreases ore usage by 6% multiplicatively so for any one level i your ore usage can be described as 0.94^i) you are able to make resource patches last forever if you keep researching higher and higher VU lvls. This works because the cost increases lineraly while the benefit increases exponentially.
This is not a trivial relationship tho. Just because you sum up multiple values that get arbitrarily small for n -> inf (The absolute your vein decreases by for every cost of +1 VU lvl iteravely added up) does not automatically mean that it converges to a finite value. And even if it does that finite value could very well be more than your effective amount of UPM left at that point. So if the linear cost increase is high enough to outweight the benefit at low lvls then you will use up all your veins before the exponential growth can kick in. Check the 2nd picture below.
You can think of an example:
Imagine you successfully research VU lvl 100 but you have exactly 100 Unipolar Magnets left. Those 100 Magnets wont ever last you to lvl 101 even with the extremey low Vein usage of 0.206%. If you had 60k left at that point you could make those last forever.
So generally there are 2 relevant variables for this problem:
  1. The lvl of VU you start using the advanced recipe for particle containers for
  2. The amount of unipolar magnets you start with
The cost for the next lvl of VU increases by 4000 white cubes for each lvl after lvl 6 starting with 4000 at 6. So the cost for any lvl of VU after 5 can be expressed as: 4000 * (i - 5). According to factoriolab.github.io each white cube uses 3.3 Unipolar Magnets assuming you fully mk3 proliferate the assemblers, particle colliders and labs. This means that we can express the effective cost in Unipolar Magnets as a function of VU lvl as:
UPM_Absolute_Cost(i) = 4000 * (i - 5) * 3.3 * 0.94^(i - 1))
The two numbers we are interested in are:
  1. Absolute amount of unipolar magnets left
  2. Effective amount of unipolar magnets left (which is the absolute number divided by 0.94^i)
So if any of these two numbers for any i become <= 0 we run out of Unipolar Magnets and lost. We try to avoid this.
The formula to calculate the absolute number of Unipolar Magnets (UPM) left for any level i > 5:
n_abs_UPM(i) = n_abs_UPM(i-1) - (4000*(i-5)*3.3*0.94^(i-1))
The effective amount left is then: n_eff_UPM(i) = n_abs_UPM(i) / 0.94^i
So to conclude the explanation: We want the absolute decrease to converge to zero and the effective increase to a larger than zero value for every future level of VU tech. We assume that all particle containers required are made with UPM.
Now on to the visualisation. I used R for this.
If you wanna run the code yourself: https://github.com/thomas-22/public_stuff Run everything with CTRL + A and then Enter and then if you wanna change some numbers edit the numbers in line 97-101. You can also use this calculator for all other resources like Fractal Silicon or Organic Crystals. Go to https://factoriolab.github.io/list?s=dsp&v=9 , configure the recipes and proliferate configuration on the sidebar and then add 1 Universe Matrix to it and scroll down to see the amount of raw resource you need per Matrix. Take that number and replace the 3.3 (the number for UPM per Matrix) in the function definition of the code.
Starting with the most common case: Amount of UPM you need if you start using them at lvl 6. Note that a log scale means a linear looking increase is actually exponential in nature.
Turning up the resolution and checking higher lvls + \"zooming in\" on the interesting amounts we can see that even the absolute number left is tiny (Literally just barely above 1) at lvl 580: 10^0.03524292 /0.94^580 = ~4.2 quadrillion UPM. Talk about the might of powers HAHA
Another quick illustration of how even if the absolute basically remains pretty much steady at a low number we still have an exponential increase in useable UPMs.
Back to a more likely scenario: Starting to use UPMs at a higher VU lvl reduces the absolute amount needed for infinite resources dramatically.
That was it. I used UPMs in this example because they're the most interesting resource for this. Feel free to ask any questions.

2024.06.09 13:57 Alycery Is it a lot to ask for to be called pretty?

I have a medical condition that has caused facial abnormalities. Because of this, I’ve encountered a particular “situation” all throughout my life… both online and in person. Where a person, in particular a guy will not call me pretty or God forbid beautiful. Instead they will say something along the lines of, “You don’t look that bad.”, “You make it sound like you look like Quesimodo.”, “I thought you were going to look worse.”, “I thought you were going to look like Quesimodo or The Sloth”. Or they will compliment something else entirely, like… “Oh, that’s a really nice shirt.” So, they’re basically avoiding saying anything about my face.
Why it is so hard to just call me pretty and leave it at that? I don’t think people realize how insulting and dismissive these responses are. Better yet, if you can’t compliment my looks… why even bring it up in the first place? It almost feels like they feel obligated to say something when I never outright asked for them to say something regarding my looks. For example, I might look extra made up that day. And instead of them just saying, “You look pretty today” or not say anything at all, they’ll say something like what I described above.
I have asked this question to some guys that have said things like this to me. Normally I get answers like, “Why do you need my validation? You should love yourself.” I’ve even had a guy tell me something along the lines of, “If I call you beautiful, you will fall in love. You shouldn’t fall in love with someone that just calls you beautiful.” But, I feel like all those “answers” is a lousy attempt at gaslighting. Making me out to be the problem. When I never said that I don’t love myself. I never said that I’m seeking validation through others. Not that I think that’s always a bad thing. And I definitely will not fall in love with someone just because they called me beautiful. So, I have no idea where that assumption came from. I just feel like those “answers” is not the real reason I keep encountering this issue. I think there is more to it.
I understand that it’s harder for men to compliment women, because it might come off as creepy or disingenuous. But, I know plenty of men that simply have complimented a woman’s looks, without expecting or looking for anything in return. So, I know they’re quite capable of doing this. They just don’t do it with me. Which is weird because women compliment women all the time. True, I’ve had plenty of people tell me something like, “You know she is just being nice. She doesn’t actually think you’re pretty.” But, that’s not the point. It’s just a nice gesture. Especially if that day I actually was trying to look good. It’s just nice to be called pretty or beautiful. It has very little to do with intent or the motive behind it. I’m not going to drop everything or drop my panties, get on my hands and knees, and worship someone who just called me pretty.
I just don’t understand why it’s so difficult to call someone that looks like me pretty or beautiful. Or don’t say anything at all, if it really is such a big deal to do this.
By the way, I’m not referring to a partner calling a woman pretty or beautiful. I think that’s a requirement for both parties.
