2024.06.10 18:37 FourFlightsUp Bringing Medication to Greece

Travelling to Corfu from UK in a few weeks . My wife has cancer and has a bunch of prescribed medication, including some controlled morphine based drugs for pain relief.
Although we will have a letter from her oncologist and copies of the prescriptions , we are worried about the controlled drugs - them being seized, or not being allowed entry We have written to a few of the emails as recommended by the FO, but no response.
Does anyone have any actual experience or advice of this situation?
Thanks in advance

2024.06.10 18:35 bitAndy Have you ever used another movie rating app other than Letterboxd?

Interested to hear if you have ever in the past, or currently alongside LetterBoxd, used another movie/TV show rating app? And to perhaps share your experience with it and how it compares to Letterboxd.
I have only been using Letterboxd for about 6 months, and love it. For about 5 years I have been using an app/website called 'taste(dot)io', and still use it alongside Letterboxd.
One thing I like about 'Taste' is that it's always had TV shows - which I know is coming to Letterboxd this year.
It also does ratings differently. Whereas Letterbox rates in half scales from 0.5 stars-5 stars, Taste has a 4 star system - Awful, Meh, Good & Amazing. I like the fidelity of Letterboxd's rating system more but there is something intuitive about representing your ratings as words. Also reviews are limited to 140 characters in Taste.
The app also prodiminately features a tinder style swipe feature to match you with new films, based on recommendations from other users with similar tastes - which I don't think I've ever really used if I'm honest.
There are a couple of features I really like about Taste though and would happily see implemented into Letterboxed. The first is that you can 'level up' and gain points for your account by writing reviews/adding attributes, but also for rating other people's reviews that are fed to you. This is massive. One of the issues with letterboxd is that your reviews, unless lucky, will likely stay buried and never seen. Whereas with Taste there is way more interaction with your reviews.
The second feature I really like is the attributes section whenever you click on a film's profile. When you rate a film on Taste you can also review its attributes: this includes if a film is slow or fast, simple or complex and light or dark. And if you should watch by yourself, with friends or family. And then you see the average taken from that data amongst everyone who's seen the film. I find it useful information so you can set your expectations better, rather than just a number score.
Anyways that's my experience with that app. Thanks if you got to the end 😄

2024.06.10 18:16 7kidsinmybase Is IVY impossible for me?

I just graduated from a Turkish high school with a GPA of 90.5/100.
I have a lot of extracurricular activities, such as being a club president, director and actor in a theater play, earthquake relief volunteer, founder of an independent academic society, chairperson in many academic workshops, yada yada.
I am also expecting an SAT score over 1500, and great recommendation letters from my teachers
However, I didn't take any AP classes since my school doesn't offer them, and I am broke as hell.
I am working on my essays, but to be realistic, I don't know if they are that good since I can't afford to pay professionals to review my applications.
The worst part is, I can't study if I don't get a full-ride scholarship.
I don't know if I should keep working on it. What if I am wasting my time? What do y'all think?
Edit: It doesn't have to be an IVY school. I just need them to be able to cover my expenses if I'm admitted. I am interested in colleges like Amherst, pomona, northwestern, columbia, vanderbilt, brown, rice, williams, upenn, uchicago, etc. as well.
I am just looking for need-based scholarships, a good quality of education, and active social clubs, especially in performative arts. It's not about the prestige, but the international student scholarships.
If you have any college recommendations, I would really appreciate it.

2024.06.10 18:09 greshaam-77 I did everything…

This post is not written to discourage some of you. I just need to explain what happened and get some answers back.
For the next academic year, I wanted to have a master's degree.
So I did EVERYTHING to get it: SAT, affirmations, living by the end, revising my beliefs...
Every day, for ONE MONTHS, I practiced SAT until I felt the relief that everyone talks about...
I continued until the fateful day and still received a rejection letter saying that my level was insufficient. Circumstances don't matter? I'm not so sure you guys...
How do you explain that even after trying all these methods, I didn't get what I wanted? I even made sure to make this desire obvious/natural so I wouldn't be surprised when I got the response.
I REALLY thought that I would get what I want.
And I'm not saying the law doesn't work! I was beginning to understand the law well since I had already manifested my apartment earlier this year as well as a trip to London.
I am the first to believe in it, but apparently not enough... and even though I'm starting to think that I'll give up, I will continue to work on my self-concept.
I won't hide that it breaks my heart. I have worked hard on myself... It's so disheartening to write this instead of a success story!
I reviewed my beliefs, read Neville Goddard. To tell you, I even imagined myself sending an email to the professor who wrote me a letter of recommendation!
I just don't understand... I guess when it comes to school, I've always had the label of someone who doesn't succeed or has to work twice as hard in order to succeed.
I guess circumstances did matter this time…
If you know how I can recover from this or improve my self-concept even more, please let me know... I want to write a beautiful success story like all of you.

2024.06.10 18:09 HoneyCoveredBeeswax Successfully ran two Witchlight campaigns simultaneously. AMA!

As the title implies, I ended up running two Witchlight campaigns simultaneously. This was largely due to my people pleasing and inability to say no, and when I had too many interested players for one table, I figured “How hard can it be to run two campaigns?” The answer: hard. But for this particular module, oddly satisfying! To answer the obvious question of how I kept it all straight, I have the privilege of an excellent memory and I take a copious amount of notes. Also, both parties made different moves throughout the campaign and had different approaches, in general, to situations, so it was easy enough to distinguish between their stories. Next, I’m going to attempt to make a master list of all of the amazing posts and supplements that I used:

2024.06.10 18:02 fairy_dusted I lost around 10 min in the exam hall, Should I file a PIL?

I have seen a couple of teachers recommending to file a PIL if we had faced any time loss (Tamannah mam and AG sir). They said if Re neet happens for the 1600 students, those who have filed a PIL have chances of being included with them for Re neet if it happens. The time written under my signature is 2:10pm as well. The reason for time loss is shitty invigilators who don't know how to do their job on time.At this point I wanna bet on everything that comes along my way for admission. I have no energy left to study for one more year. For context I scored 623 and sacrificed everything for the 2-3 past years I dont mind receiving grace marks for the time loss even if it's unfair (10 min time loss = 40 marks?) I dont mind Re evaluation if it brings down the cutoff I dont mind giving Re neet as well as that's the most of studying I can pull myself to do,not 1 more year for sure. What should I do?

2024.06.10 18:00 Electrical-Ad4438 Son Diagnosed with severe combined ADHD and generalized anxiety. Medication?

Sorry this post is long!
So my 7 year-old has recently been diagnosed with a severe combined ADHD and generalized anxiety.
We suspected that he had ADHD and took him to a general practitioner to get assessed. The doctor gave us some forms to fill out for us and his teacher, which we did. And based on those scores, the doctor said yes, He has ADHD and recommended that we start him on medication.
We tried concerta. We increase the dosage three or four times and we saw little to no improvement so we decided to take him off of it.
Fast forward a few months. We had booked him a edu psycho evaluation with a registered child psychologist. Leading to his current diagnosis of combined ADHD (severe) with generalized anxiety.
My problem is this we are going back to the general practitioner and I am at a loss as to what possibly be the best medication to put him on.
And yes I do think he needs medication, he is far behind his peers in school due to both his inattentive and hyperactive nature. Sprinkle some anxiety on top and he is struggling hard. My poor little man. We will be seeking behavioral therapy as well.
He does not have any violent tendencies, he is happy go lucky generally but lately, and he is very intelligent but he is being held back by his ADHD.
It's a combination and he's got anxiety so I'm not sure what medication would cover all those bases. I know the doctor will probably recommend something. But based on our previous experience of a not very thorough diagnosis of ADHD and ineffective medication, I want to come in informed.
So I guess I'm asking any other parents out there with children with this diagnosis for information about their experiences with different kinds of medication.
I know all children/people are different, but I wouldn't so appreciate any information your other parents have to share. I'm feeling overwhelmed and stressed.
Thanks all.

2024.06.10 17:49 hungryhippo3-14 Should I buy long-term disability insurance?

Hello. I am debating whether I should buy supplemental long-term disability (LTD) insurance and would appreciate some advice.
I am a 28 year old single male teacher with no dependents or debt and am relatively healthy. I make $65,000 per year and have employer LTD insurance that will replace 60% of my income. While I could survive on $39,000 per year now if I had to, due to inflation $39,000 would be very hard to live on in the future if I were to become permanently disabled.
Therefore, I was wondering whether I should buy supplemental LTD insurance that adjusts for inflation. If so, how would you recommend buying it and would the benefits from that insurance stack with my employer’s benefits?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
(There was no disability insurance flair)

2024.06.10 17:45 Radiant-Salad-9772 Admin just really doesn’t care about us.

In April the head of personnel did my final observation. I got almost all 4s. In my post, he told me (unprompted) I was going to hear a lot of yammer about budget cuts, but I wasn’t to worry because I am a great teacher and there’s no way I’d get cut.
In May the very same person put a two sentence letter in my mailbox at 7:30 AM telling me I wasn’t going to be offered employment next year.
One day it was “numbers” the next it was “performance”.
I did everything they asked. I left a full time job in another district for them. I was a traveling teacher for 1.5 years for them. I NEVER had a bad observation or any negative feedback.
They care about warm bodies in classroom. We’re completely gutting education in the name of saving a few dollars.
Disillusioned. Love my job, might start searching for opportunities outside of teaching.

2024.06.10 17:43 underappreciatedduck EU Settled Status approved - after 3 years and moving abroad

Hi all
Wanted to share my success story with you all in case someone will find themselves in a similar situation as mine.
Context:
Nationality: Swiss Move to UK: Sept. 2020, right before Brexit Move to Switzerland: 1st week of Jan, 2024. Employment in the UK: 1st Jan 2021 - 31 December 2023 Employment in Switzerland: Self-employment, own business
Application submitted: Mid-April Application approved: Mid-May
I applied for settled status under the "If you stop working in the UK or start working in an EU country". Caseworker guidance: "Worker or self-employed person who has retained a place of residence".
The criteria for it are the following:
My main issues during the application process:
  1. The application process doesn't facilitate in an easy manner the application for the above context. You need to make sure you end up applying for settled status and even if you do, at least when I did it, they won't know under which "exception clause" you're applying for.
  2. Contacted by UKVI twice saying that I'm not eligible for settled status because I haven't lived in the UK for five years.
    1. First Contact: Missing documents, tenancy contract doesn't count, my mistake. When I called to confirm document eligibility I was told that I don't qualify for settled status by the caseworker answering my enquiry. That was wrong, and I spoke to the caseworker for 30 minutes and the outcome was "I don't think this applies to you, however I recommend you add a cover letter explaining your application".
    2. I wrote a cover letter mapping all my evidence to the criteria listed above. The criteria above is the exact writing of the caseworker guidance document. Thats their playbook. Note: Cover letters do not have a dedicated document type when uploading evidence. I just made sure to name the document appropriately so its "dummy proof".
    3. Second Contact: Caseworker calls me directly and says that they have reviewed the uploaded evidence but that I haven't lived in the UK for five years and I wouldn't be eligible for settled status. They were checking if I meant to apply for pre-settled, which I already had and have filled out in the application. I told the caseworker in the politest way, that I am applying under a different clause and asked if they could see my document named "Cover Letter". They confirmed they could see it. I told the caseworker that everything needed including mapping of the criteria to my evidence and page from their caseworker guidance is in this letter and that they please escalate this because it seems like a more senior caseworkemanager needs to review my application. The caseworker was very kind and even said "I understand your frustration because you spoke to us in the past and the second time for this application, I will escalate it and we will get in touch."
I never got contacted again - straight application approval email.
Just wanted to post this in case you are a EU/EEA/Swiss citizen and have lived in the UK as pre-settled under the five year mark and were looking move without losing the right to live and work in the future in the UK. It was very important for me. The UK has become my second home and it will always be that way.

2024.06.10 17:41 GoldenKiwi1018 Red flag? And how to leave daycare

We put our baby in daycare a month ago and are already considering pulling her out due to what we see are red flags. We loved the infant room teachers and the director. Unfortunately, over the past few weeks, they have ALL left or been fired by the daycare owner. Currently, the daycare is being staffed by the owner and some subs.
We've heard everyone's side of the story and it seems like the owner was not following ratio and the teachers/director disagreed and pushed back, resulting in these departures. I know high turnover is to be expected, but I feel like this is a pretty big red flag. We're not confident that our child can now receive the best care under the new understaffed/rotating sub situation.
Our daycare requires 30 day notice, which we're considering doing ASAP so we can find a nanny. While we look for our next care provider, our child will still attend this daycare. I'm worried after we give notice, the owner (who is now in the infant room) won't adequately care for our child, whether consciously or subconsciously, because she'll know we're leaving not on the best of terms (we just started, we aren't moving out of state, etc). What's the best way to give notice and ensure that our LO will still be taken care of.
And more broadly, are we right for thinking everyone leaving is a red flag? Or are we overthinking this turnover and it's normal for a daycare?

2024.06.10 17:40 mark248am Need a good dog groomer

Can someone recommend me a good dog groomer in Kuwait that isn’t Zue? I keep having issues with Zue so looking for a change. Last time I found out they allow randos into doggy day care to play and pet the dogs which is a major no for me since I don’t want strangers playing with my dog. Now twice in a row I’ve had issues with the grooming so looking to switch.
Found a great alternative for daycare which is IVH (they’re super good and very pro) and now looking for a good groomer. IVH do grooming but would rather somewhere closer.

2024.06.10 17:35 Crafty_Reference_790 fiction book recs

For my highschool senior honors english class i need to pick a novel to read over the summer. It has to be by a british, scottish, welsh, irish, or australian author as well as be fiction. I was also told to make sure it’s a book i could easily read 3-4 times within the school year. i was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for books that fit these categories while also being marxist/socialist novels? I’ve been searching a lot on my own and haven’t had much luck, I’d appreciate anyone who has suggestions!
A lot of people have also been recommending sci-fi novels, but i think realistic fiction might fit more what the course/teacher want me to read.

2024.06.10 17:30 Beaver-on-fire Short term housing ideas for South Dallas / Red Oak area?

I will be moving from WA to the Dallas area for a new job. I will be selling off 95% of my possessions for the move. While technically unemployed, I do have an offer letter from my future employer in hand. However I will not have any pay-stubs yet. I would like to move in somewhere around June 28th.
I would like to find a safe and cheap (as reasonable possible) place that is preferably furnished for 2-4 weeks while I look for long term housing. I would be great if I can leave early with no to a small penalty.
I would prefer a 1 bed apt with a kitchen, but I am not opposed to other options that bring some other benefit.
A reasonable amount for deposits or the like shouldn't be an issue (assuming something non-sketchy).
The answer I have currently is a long term stay hotel. I considered an air b&b, but their prices seem to be as high if not higher than most of the hotels. I would be open to working with a private individual such as the rentals on Craigslist, but I know better than to offer deposits for such an arraignment due to scammers (to bad there are so many bad apples).
Does anyone have any other ideas, or recommendations for (or against) specific hotels in the area?

2024.06.10 17:26 franniedelrey TK or Pre K or Preschool offerings (coming from out of State)

hi all! I am planning to move to Raleigh by the end of this year and find myself a bit confused by the school system here in NC! Would love assistance :)
I am from Southern California and have a wonderful 4 year old turning 5 in the first week of September, as you can see she misses the cut off by a few days.
Here in California we have universal transitional kindergarten (for those who turn 5 after the cutoff) with our public school districts and although it’s a shorter day, I was fine with not pushing for her to enter kindergarten early because I felt as I was finally free from paying for her education (or so I thought!)
Due to my research, it seems as if Raleigh does not have a transitional kindergarten public school program. This means that I will have to pay for another year of a preschool program. Right now she is currently in a transitional kindergarten private school program. Her teachers at her current school allowed her to be there as they felt that she was academically ready even though she was a few months younger than her peers. This entire past year, she has already been accustomed to transitional kindergarten curriculum.
It seems that she is going to have to do another year of transitional kindergarten curriculum, and I am wondering, which schools would be the best and would be able to challenge her since she will be “repeating” the curriculum. I am a current high school teacher (BA in Child Development/MA in Education) who will be transitioning careers into social work and I know how important being socially and emotionally ready in addition to being academically ready is when entering kindergarten. However, her being challenged is very important to me!
Does anyone have any recommendations? Is there a certain way that I should go about navigating her educational experience here?
Thank you all!
