2024.05.15 10:31 fjcruiser404 Motorcycle relocation Query

Hello Everyone,
I am moving to Darwin from Perth.
Before relocating, I am planning to buy 2010 Honda vtr250 and take it with me to Darwin.
The total cost would be around $5500 (including relocation costs).
I checked Darwin Marketplace and wasn't able find something similar for this cost.
I am mainly planning to use the motorcycle for commute to work.
I already got a car and I don't want to use my car to commute to work everyday.
Please advise if this is worth to spend?

2024.05.15 10:08 ConsistentMistake691 Starting a small business in MN questions

Lawyers, small business owners, anyone who could help answer some of my questions welcome please. I also am looking for some support as I feel completely alone in unknown waters. If anyone has walked this path before me or has helpful knowledge I would be very grateful.
(Forgive me if any mistakes, English is not my first language)
Plan:
-To start a small business of upcycling blankets and other second-hand fabric by sewing. I would also like to knit and crochet pieces too, so it’s an art/ craft but the outcome is accessories such as tote bags and clothing items. I have many art-related ideas too and don’t want to limit myself too much. From what I’ve read, I believe this best would fall under the NAICS (code 44-45) more specifically 458000- clothing, clothing accessories, shoe, and jewelry retailers. (Feel free to correct me)
Background:
-I am a woman in my early 20s and I still live at home with my family in a home that we rent. I don’t have any assets, I don’t own a car, and I don’t own a house. The only person wanting to do the business is me alone. I’m taking a break from working an actual job at the moment and want to take a chance on this business idea. I don’t have anything to lose right now. I do not have a home office but only my bedroom that can turn into a space for me to sew which is the main thing I will be doing in the business I start. I have hope in this business idea and want to be able to provide income to help my family more. The hope is keeping me alive and everyone starts somewhere don’t they?
In no way do I plan to use Reddit as legal advice, but any guidance or any input leading me to the right direction would mean so so much to me.
——
My questions<
1.When starting out should I do a DBA or and LLC?
-I have read up on this a lot the last few months and still can’t reach a conclusion. DBA $30 if I file thru mail, and LLC $135. DBA mentions “principal place of business” and that would be the rental property where I live truthfully. Sec.609.48 of the Minnesota 2023 statutes is scary to me because I would never intend to violate that and end up in jail or paying huge fines. My dad has a dedicated office space, and since cowork spaces exist for businesses, I know I technically could use his address instead of my home address…. but that does not feel truthful since I only would be working and sewing from my room at home so I know it must be wrong.
2.Privacy?
  1. Sole proprietor?
-Is the best option to just operate under my legal name so no DBA is necessary or LLC? Should I just start? It feels like I am getting ahead of myself. I could rent a P.O. Box and use that as the sending address for items that I sell to protect my home address, right? Do I maybe only need to seek permission from my landlord? Sewing is something so small though, not like I am doing mechanic repairs or metal working on the property.
—— I have read about using a lawyeregistered agent to protect home address paying them yearly, or using a virtual adddress to protect home address, registering at a local cowork monthly, and even renting an actual mail box at the local post office all as options. All have their downsides though and it seems if I am the primary owner of my business my home address may still get out into the world some how though…so is it just unavoidable? Do I just say screw it and register my business with my home address? Maybe there is some solution I am missing…
—What would you do?—
Thank you in advance to anyone who reads this post. I appreciate you taking time out of your day and putting up with a lot of word vomit and no doubt errors.
How do people do it!

2024.05.15 09:51 marc512 Do you like wind deflectors?

I've noticed some people, the first thing they do to a car they have just purchased is rip off the wind deflectors around the windows.
I personally love them. I purchased them for my old Honda CRZ. They definatly made driving at 60+ quieter. I ended up buying them for my bmw 330e as well, however didn't notice a big difference in driving sound but I thought it looked better. Same with the crz, wind deflectors gave it a good look. I also attached them to my mazda bongo, only because the air con wasn't working and we had to drive everywhere with the windows slightly open.
From what I've gathered amongst car enthusiasts on YouTube, wind deflectors are the worse things for cars. I admit, some cars don't suit them. But the majority of the time I feel they are worth it. What do you think?

2024.05.15 09:49 OrchidImaginary327 25 Honda Pilot

Would anyone be willing to share their OTD prices on the Black Edition, Elite, or Trail Sport?
I was in a total loss accident about a month ago where my 24 Telluride was rear ended. We’ve been looking at the Pilot as a replacement, but I’m just overwhelmed at this point. I was not expecting to be buying a car and am still struggling with driving since the accident, but need to get a car as our rental through insurance is coming to an end.
We have been looking at a 25 Pilot TS with an added tint package and it’s looking like it’s going to be about $53k otd with 5.9% financing through Honda for 72 months. I still just feel like that price is a bit high and that we could possibly get into an Elite at that price somewhere else, but my husband is ready to sign on this car now. Thoughts?

2024.05.15 09:30 Time_Inevitable7674 Budget Car Recommendations? Mazda vs Honda

Salaam guys, I currently own a 2013 Corolla which I have had for the past 2 years (and absolutely love). However I am looking to upgrade to something newer but my budget is around 40k max.
Currently eyeing Mazda 6 2016+ and Honda Civic 2017+ as won't get a decent Camry or Accord in this range. Are these good options considering maintenance, resale and driving pleasure. Not very car savvy so need something that is reliable and won't have me running to mechanics every now and then. Any other suggestions?
Thanks!
Currently on't want to lease a new car due to financial reasons.

2024.05.15 09:27 Shot_Flamingo_9312 Genesis GV70 parts sharing with Hyundai

Hi all, i'm looking to get a GV70 2.5T prestige (2025 model year) and want to understand the parts that are shared between Genesis and the comparable Hyundai / Kia car (i'm assuming the comparable car here would be tuscon and sportage). Specifically on the following areas:
  1. Platform of the chassis
  2. Engine
  3. Gearbox and Transmission (i'm also finding it difficult to identify what kind of gearbox is in the GV70 - is it a CVT, Torque converter, DCT?)
  4. Braking elements (brake calipers, pads, discs etc)
  5. Suspension
I know that there's parts sharing in some of the electronic components related to driver assist systems (sensors and such) and the infotainment systems.
Also, compared to other brands such as Honda-Acura, Toyota-Lexus, Nissan-Infiniti etc, do you think Genesis shares more components with Hyundai?
Basically, i want to get a definitive answer to the question - is genesis just a fancy Hyundai under the hood that's just dressed pretty (and not worth the extra) or is there more to a genesis than that?

I just bought a car a Honda hatchback at roughly 23k today. I see the same Honda model but the sports version for 2000 more. What are my options for trading my car in for the sports model? What should I consider? How much value has my new car lost?

2024.05.15 07:26 Dependent_Series3342 Easy to resell cars as an International student

Hi, I’m an international student who will be moving to the US south east on a visa, considering the distances to places around my apartment to be, I need a car. My budget is about 3-6k
Factors I’m considering: -easy to resell later on (might move/go home post graduation) -cheap and available spareparts -Roomy for my stuff/4dr -decent mileage -preferably automatic but not firm on this -I can drive manual and can work on my cars ( have pulled evap cores, fenders, struts, rear wheel bearings and radiator fans before)
so what are the best options for my circumstances? American big 3 brands?
Cars I’ve considered are Outlander Sport, Lancer, Mazda 3/6/CX5, toyota Yaris/camry/corolla, Honda Fit/Accord/Civic/CR-V as these are the cars that are around my country but alas, most of them are a bit out of my budget or on the older side

Buy a Honda Jazz 2004 CVT with 279,000 km (173.000 Mile)or run away? I have a Honda Jazz in mind that has been dealer maintained. And the garage that sells it has been maintaining this jazz for years. it is rust-free and will have a new intermediate piece for the exhaust. There is also a 3-month warranty for 2950 euros. What do you think about this? I've never bought a car with such mileage and I'm always a little afraid of it.

I recall umaabot ng 4 years ang lifespan ng car battery. But parang these past year 2 taon na lang tinatagal nila and nagkakaproblem na. Biglang na lang nadidiskarga ang battery niya out of no where and stopped working.
Motolite na ginagamit namin pero laging 2 years or a bit farther than that. Pero always 2 year mark magkakkaissue na siya. Wala naman problem ang alternator ko.

2024.05.15 06:47 OpeningFuzzy5066 Help what are y’all’s thoughts

Hi so basically Im in a weird situation rn, my weekly schedule consists of being at my trade school from mon-Friday and leave Saturdays most of the time and come back sun nights. So when I’m here my mental health gets WAY better I mean way better, I’m with people who are emotionally and socially healthy and understanding. It’s like when I come home as soon as my narc alcoholic dad comes pick me up in his 2000 something old ass dirty bug infested food and crumbs all over the seat and floor and fucken sauce stains everywhere Honda as soon as I get in the car with him I could just see how fucked in the head he is in so many fucking ways emotionally, socially, psychologically and a whole bunch of other shit. It’s literally like I get in the car and what it feels like all his bs issues become mine for some reason and it’s like I’m carrying all his bs with me. I get miserable because my parents are some of the most sutipid bum lames that have no character whatsoever you’ll come across in ur fucking life. Til this day I haven’t come across anybody like these people. Than my dumbass mom had the nerve to come into my room sat morning saying it was Mothers Day to least say it to my grandma since she knows I’m not gonna tell her shit but she was just tryna make me feel bad and I just told her to close the fucking door cuz my grandma don’t deserve me telling her shit either not even me interacting with her. Idk yesterday I went to the beach cuz I stayed and was kinda bored and had nothing to do. I took the bus and at first it was pretty good but after a while idk if it was cuz I smoked a sig and Im addicted tryna quit and it just put me in a bad mood? But idk, their was this cute girl were I got my pizza from and I could tell in the beginning she liked me a bit and was lowk tryna talk to me but it’s like I wasn’t mentally and emotionally there to even talk to her in any other way than to order my food. But like I said my point is whenever I’m here at my trade school and I don’t leave home to my narc bum ass family, my mental health feels better, but when I leave it’s like I “heal” them in a way and with that comes me draining me completely from all the good energy I have leaving me with nothing which messes me up emotionally and socially. They have nothing going on with their life really their bums who live miserabley day to day with my alc dad drinking every weekend and jacking off in the restroom while drunk. I wish I had a therapist to talk to about my situation, when I’m here I feel so much better but when I get picked up as soon as I’m in the car with that bum ass nigga every second I’m next to him he literally drains me, and within a couple hours of being with them my whole mental health and mentality changes for the worst. I become really insecure I got no energy and and just worse mentally. But at the same time I don’t like staying here in the weekends because it’s boring and you don’t do shit here and the only people I even stay with on the weekends is my parents cuz I haven’t really better my relationship with my other family members from the issues we’ve had in the past, and don’t really have friends anymore in my home town, at least that I don’t talk to so I don’t do nothing but stay in my house with them all day and not do shit. The best example I could give u is around 2 weeks ago I left for the first time in like a month of being here and not physically interacting with these bums, I stayed cuz I would forget to turn in my weekend slip so I could leave. So yea I left and it was good at first but it’s like my presence around them would “heal” them by them giving me all their bullshit issues, luckily I was mentally a little stronger so I dealt with it for a bit than I left, I came back home last week Saturday and I regret it it was way worse, they showed me their genuine bum selfs and drained me from all the good energy I had and put me in a really bad place mentally coming back here. Now ik for sure unless I got back up in my house meaning I’m gonna do something with friends I’m not gonna go back for shit. Cuz that’s the only way if I go back and don’t go out with friends or nothing it’ll just be bad. But yea sorry ik it’s a lot what are your thought? Just wanna know.

I was suppose to ship Honda Accord today. I contacted and signed with Broadway Auto after seeing some good comments here. It was a huge mistake.
The company took my deposit, then made excuses to increase quoted price by 600$, then promised a driver and no show!!!
I am stranded with one month old infant in California, just waiting for car shipment. Can anyone quote me please. I hope there are some honest people in this industry.
BRWARE: u/BroadwayAdmin is a scammer too. He posts here. I contacted him, he said the agent helping me is legit. Later he says I should have emailed him. I literally used the site he has on his posts to get quote.

2024.05.15 06:35 Big-Dragonfruit8381 Master/Slave cylinder price too high?

Hey guys,
Recently ran into some trouble with my 04 Civic. I took it into the shop and they let me know that it was low on fluid, and didn’t bleed due to it faulting. I know next to nothing besides the really basics about cars. They quoted me at $900 for changing both the slave and I assume the master (?) cylinders. I’m wondering if this is a fair price?
I had called my grandfather who has worked on cars his whole life and he made it seem like it was a ridiculous price. Granted, he could just be unaware of how much everything costs nowadays. I did see the parts online for ~$150 so is the extra $800 from labor? Just curious before I make the decision to have it fixed
Thanks in advance
Edit: Car is 2004 Honda civic EX, manual transmission with ~200k miles

2024.05.15 06:34 rarabk 2004 Honda Pilot Transmission Advice

I bought a 2004 (about 200,000 miles) from a friend's mechanic. ($1800). On the way home, the car started acting up. Ugh. (Thanks for nothing, mechanic dude.)
I took it to a mechanic in town and he said we would soon need a new transmission. Our local place can do it for about $2800.
Any advice? We don't drive every day. We drive it maybe 2x's a week around town. We use it for little 4 hours trips out of town here and there--camping and such.
We're trying to decide: sell it for parts? Pay the $2800 and get another year or two out of the Pilot?
Buying a more expensive car is not in our budget, and I don't want to take out a loan.
Thanks for any advice, fellow Honda owners.

2024.05.15 06:34 PainlessDeath09 Hypermiling a 7th Gen Accord!

Hypermiling a 7th Gen Accord!
Hypermiling a 7th Gen Accord in Bangalore Traffic
Ever wanted a D segment long ass old school sedan as a daily but been putting it off because of its horrendous fuel economy?
Well. While it’s no Maruti Suzuki, this 2003 7th Gen Accord really did surprise me quite a bit in this regard.
Back when I got this as my new daily, I never really cared or still care for fuel economy. But with a bit of curiosity (and necessity as for some reason, the car did not come with an economy gauge), I decided to take 3 days to conduct an experiment on how much I can squeeze out of this 2.4L motor.

Distance:

My office commute is about 16.6 kms one way. 33.2 kms two ways multiplied by three would be about 99.6 kms covered. The tank to tank method was used ofc but I also wanted a way to figure out instantaneous fuel economy so that it will help me optimise the fuel consumption on the go. One way to do this was to get an OBD scanner and directly talk to the car. However, I was not gonna splurge on a new Autel scanner(some models which would almost cost as much as my car’s value) just to measure fuel economy as they are incredibly expensive.

The scanner that surprised me:

Scouring through online products, I came across this thing. It’s an OBD scanner that uses your phone to connect and show you info and since it uses the OBD ELM 327 protocol, there are a host of apps on the AppStore that you can use to connect to it. And it was quite inexpensive at ₹300 ish, so I thought why not. Would double up as a review of accuracy for this thing as well.

K24A4:

The 7th gen Accord came with the K series K24A4 2.4L engine mated to a 5 speed torque converter. Enthusiasts would like you to believe that this is the same legendary K series K24 that’s capable of producing almost 500bhp without any forced induction and is the same thing that’s found on the later Accord’s and Acura’s. However, that couldn’t be more false.
Apart from sharing the same block, there’s very little that’s common between this and the K24Z2 or the K24Z3 that’s found in the 8th gen 2008-2013 Accord. The K24A4 uses an economy trim of VTEC and also produces less power and torque than the 2008 one. While both the engines have the same bore and stroke and hence the same displacement, the K24A4 has a lower compression ratio and is tuned differently hence produces almost 25hp lesser than the 2008 Accord. It also has a lower redline at 6700rpm.
A notable characteristic of the K24A4 is that unlike the Gen8 K24Z’s VTEC that has 3 lobed VTEC only on the intake side, the K24A4 has a staggered VTEC 4 lobed setup with lobed cams on both the intake and the exhaust valves. While this reduces it’s power efficacy, it also significantly decreases the hit on fuel economy when VTEC is engaged and as a bonus(or not, as I personally don’t like it), you get a distinct whine when VTEC crossover happens, something that’s unique and not present in other Honda’s.
The end result is a motor that’s down on power compared to the newer Accord but with significantly higher fuel economy.

Experiment begins:

Started off with a full tank, 3 days of office commute, I ended it at the petrol station with exactly 100.9 kms on the trip meter. The scanner read an average fuel economy of 9.33km/L. The fuel up was around 11.06 liters to the full tank.
Comparing this to the real values, 100.9/11.05 = 9.13kmpl. I was plenty surprised, not just by the car but also how accurate this ₹300 scanner was. Definitely a well worth purchase.
I should add this as a disclaimer, this was tested under rigorous hypermiling conditions with no bumper to bumper traffic and all the commutes on odd hours. With ample steady acceleration and maximum engine braking used with a whole lot of coasting and zero pedal to the floor acceleration. It was also the result of being very calculative when I had to slow down abusing the deceleration fuel cut-off everytime I had to shed speed and I’ve never used the brakes this less in my commute. Needless to say, it was torture for me to drive the car this way, with no flooring it or hitting the rev limiter and with me fighting the urges to open it up and send it or going anywhere as fast as I wanted to. So while I probably will never get this economy figure as a regular number, it was good to know what it’s capable of.

Interesting findings:

This leads me to also mention, while this is an economy trim of the K24, it is also, at the end of the day, a 2.4L engine. Something I’ve noticed is that, this car is incredibly sensitive to how it’s being driven, much more so than any other car I’ve driven. Despite the 9.13kmpl economy, driving it normally(not even fast, just slightly faster than me hypermiling it) results in a steep drop to 7.9kmpl on the scanner. Driving pedal to the metal, I have seen it drop to 6.3kmpl. Never have I seen fuel economy numbers drop that fast with just a slight change(not even a big difference) in driving style.
Something even more interesting is that this car basically makes zero difference if you leave the AC on or turn it off. I have seen cars whose economy increase by even 3-4kmpl with the AC turned on. Not sure if ya something specific to this car or it’s how it is with all Accord but yeah, found that quite interesting. So all things considered, I get around 7.5kmpl in my regular driving around the city.

K24A4, useless for performance. Or is it?

For the enthusiasts out there, I know your thinking and no this motor isn’t completely useless compared to the 2008 8th gen Accord. Well, depends on what you’re looking terms of mods.
Yes it produces less power. Yes it’s the economy trim of Vtec. However, there is a silver lining. With purely bolt on mods, the K24Z on the 8th gen Accord will produce more power as expected.
But if you have enough money to spend, the 7th gen Accord has significantly more potential than the 8th gen. The K24Z on the 8th gen has its exhaust manifold cast on to the head which means no aftermarket headers. It also has a plastic intake manifold so you can’t port and polish or extrude hone it like you can with the aluminium intake manifold on the older K series motors. Not to mention the compression ratio is higher than the older 7th gen so it won’t be as boost friendly. The 7th gen has multiple companies like Hondata offering bespoke and retrofit custom ECUs however there is no such support for the 8th Gen K24Z motors.
Here’s a 702bhp 7th gen Accord made by RaceConcepts in Bangalore reviewed by The Drivers Hub. The aftermarket for the K24Z on the 2008 8th is really weak compared to the civic and the earlier Accord.
So if you’re looking for an old D segment car that you can daily without breaking the bank on fuel costs or if you’re a hardcore enthusiast looking to build the fastest car that eats drag strips for breakfast, consider the 7th gen Accord!
PSA: Just stay away from the V6 of this generation. Not only does it return horrendous fuel economy, it’s also notorious for transmission failures to the point that there was a class action lawsuit filed against Honda back in 2004.
Cheers and happy motoring!

VW Passat: 102,000 miles $6500 Well maintained, buying from a friend Automatic
Which one should I buy? It will be my daily driver, about 250miles of fixed commute (highway) each week so I need something reliable. Love to drive a manual car but I would let it go if it's too expensive.

2024.05.15 06:29 ladysdevil Is it possible?

So, I have a 2001, Honda accord EX, 3L engine, just over 101k miles (the mileage is not a typo). It has a class 1 hitch installed. Cosmetically, it has seen better days, mechanically, it is sound. I have a fixed income that sits in about the $1500-$1600 range on a good month and $1200 on a bad month. Credit score is about a 650ish.
Is it possible, with this information, to potentially get financed for something used that would fit the below criteria.
Something reliable (like my current car) with less than 150k (max 200k) miles, that can be converted into a wheelchair van, or take a class three hitch for an external platform or electric scooter lift? I plan to hit another sub to figure out the cars to look for, this is mostly to figure out if I could even begin to finance it and whether the car I love might be worth anything at trade in.

2024.05.15 06:20 KHSMR_IN Civic Sedan 2024 Sport vs Mazda CX-5 GX (Canada)

My wife and I are looking to buy our first car ever.
We have finally decided to choose between the cars mentioned. We are both 27 years old and planning to have a child in a year or two, so we want the car seat to fit comfortably when needed in the future. Since this is our first car, I don't have much idea about how much we will drive, but I am assuming around 1500-2000 km per month. I don't have any preference in terms of driving, and I honestly liked both cars when I did the test drive.
I know I'm comparing a sedan with a CUV, but this is what we have come up with.
From my research and talking with dealers, I am getting the Civic Sport (second top trim below Touring) for $31,500 CAD and the CX-5 (base trim) for $33,600 CAD. I will not be changing my car for at least 5 years.
On top of the Civic pricing, I am also getting all-weather mats, theft protection, my choice of color for free, and a few other extra fees removed, which I am not getting with the CX-5 and would have to pay extra for if I wanted them.
Regarding the driving and feel of the car, I liked both but felt the CX-5 (AWD) is more refined and smooth with the automatic transmission compared to the CVT on the Civic. Fuel-wise, the Civic is better due to the CVT, FWD, and smaller engine. In terms of features, I don't think I'm missing much with the Mazda, but the Civic definitely has the upper hand due to the trim level (moonroof, better looking 18-inch alloys, remote start). Safety-wise, the Mazda has better ratings, but I won't get better resale. I felt the interior space is almost similar in both, but it seemed the Civic is bigger.
For the first year, I am paying the same insurance, but as I gain more experience, I believe the Mazda will be cheaper in the future.
I'm so confused and unable to make a decision about which one to go for.
Tldr;
My wife and I are deciding between our first cars: a Honda Civic Sport ($31,500 CAD) and a Mazda CX-5 ($33,600 CAD). We're 27, planning to have a child soon, and expect to drive about 1500-2000 km/month. The Civic offers more features and extras at a lower price, while the CX-5 feels more refined and smooth to drive. The Mazda has better safety ratings but potentially lower resale value. Both have similar interior space. Insurance costs are the same for the first year, but Mazda might be cheaper long-term. We're struggling to make a decision.

2024.05.15 06:09 Soupspooninator Last drive

Last drive
I knew we were trading in our car for the next one but it’s only after coming home from work that I was told the new one’s been paid for and that this car’s going to the dealer the next day.
Coincidentally, I’d taken the car to work that day so that ended up being my last drive with it. This car has taken me to graduation twice, been the facilitator of many dates, been my safe space in unfamiliar areas and has been an integral part of my family’s and my life for the last 7 years.
Knowing a drive with a car was your last one after said drive, is an odd yet satisfying feeling. This 2016 Honda City is loved and it will be missed dearly.
Thanks for listening!
