- Turning 32 in October.
In the spirit of self-loathing, I’ll give you one that may even make you feel better about yourself. I am an only child with wonderful, loving parents. We were never rich, but we always had enough.
Cue the violin, cry me a river time. I have spent most of my life pursuing a career in music. To make a long story short, I started playing violin when I was 11. Learned guitar at 14, became a singer-songwriter by 15. People told me I had “it.” Boy, do I wish I hadn’t been STUPID enough to believe that bullshit.
I spent the next 20 years auditioning, being in orchestras, singing in choirs, playing at my dream venues, being a member in several failed rock bands, as well as a few of my own solo projects. Learned to produce my own music since I couldn’t afford to have my songs professionally made. Practiced, practiced, practiced. Then practiced some more. I know how to play several instruments and sing. Had lots of horrible days and not so horrible days. It all culminated when in 2019, I was signed to an independent label with a distribution deal with a major music company.
Man, I got fit for the photo shoots and music videos. I invested what little broke musician money I had into the proper gear I needed for live performances. There was always some delay or excuse from the label or music company.
I put up with promise after promise for 3. Fucking. Years. Something was always falling through. 2020 destroyed a lot of this for me. Shows were cancelled and life was disrupted for performing artists making a living through music. The only reason I stayed was because the label owner was a lifelong friend of my trusted friend. And he never asked me for a single dime. I even had our contract reviewed by a lawyer before signing. More money I did not have. But hey no risk no reward, right?
In the end, he (the label owner) botched the distribution deal by confronting them on why they were insisting on single releases when he wanted them to release our albums all at once. We, the artists on his label, were perfectly fine with the single releases. But because he blew up at them the way he did, it was the last straw and they dropped us. No distribution. Poof. Nearly 3 years of my life gone.
3 years where I STUPIDLY put a lot of things on hold. Like school. Like working at a company that would have ACTUALLY paid me at least for all the work I put in. Maybe moving up in a role and being able to have a livelihood.
After this devastation, I said to myself, “hey, since you spent all this time honing skills in music, you should try to make a career out of it.”
SEND IN THE CLOWNS. I went to an online workshop/academy for music production thinking I could learn this get a clientele. Only to find another misfortune. Due to the invention of short-form content, everyone and their mom decided to be a music producer. The market was over-saturated by the time I was ready to join it.
So I pivoted to music composition. Maybe I could expand my clientele between the music production and composition. Barely scratch by but make a living. Folks I was really hanging on to the delusional idea that I could work in a field of my skill set of 2 decades. Nope. You have to be a content creator too. And now I needed a real job bc I was flat broke. The clock ran out. So altogether, that wasted another 2 years.
Where do I find myself now? 31 working a call-center job with 19 yo progressive people who make me wish I hadn’t bought the dream when they sold it to me and focused on a real job instead.
On top of that, heavy customer-facing roles are my weakness, which I found out during my time as an online tutor. The meanness, entitlement, and plain rudeness of people on the phone is too much to bear. I am also back in school getting a master’s for cheap, but in the meantime this job drains the actual soul from me and I do not know if I can hang on until I graduate or find another job. The job market is so tough right now.
And every time I have to use a calm tone to a customer who literally tells me to “speak like an actual human being” when my manager is telling me my volume was perfectly fine and they were just a big asshat, I can’t help but think I am supposed to be performing my songs that people enjoy on a stage, but instead I am here.
I can’t even attend concerts or festivals anymore because I think of how close it was to being me up there. Even just a small side stage. But back to the shitty phone and highly stressful exams, etc.
I have no plan to end it. I just pretend I am dead when I am in bed about to go to sleep. I imagine the peace. I pretend I am a great bad-ass warrior in another universe like Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings. Not a fuck-up. Not helpless. Successful. Strong.
TLDR; Failed musician, fantasizes about dying. Won’t do it bc I do not want my loved ones to suffer. It’s painful.

Looking at the new Freeguild models made me think about how their lore changed subtly over the years, and whether it still works at all.
I'll preface it by saying that idea of "mercenary armies" styled like those of late Medieval and Renaissance were always confusing to me. I've always been more of a fan of large and complex armies of Antiquity.
Regardless, I understand that at their introduction into the lore, Freeguild were meant to function as mercenary companies, who could/would voluntarily sign up long-term employment contract with a Free City.
But looking at how culturally-tied some Freeguild regiments became (or were from the moment of their founding) to their Cities, like Lionesses of Edassa, it seems that the Freeguild regiments can also be closer to a paid professional standing (permanent) armies of their respective Free Cities, rather than free employed mercenary forces. The aforementioned Lionesses of Edassa, for example, are so intrinsically tied to the Free City of Edassa, that they truly aren't mercenaries, but rather a regiment of standing army of Edassa - Lionesses cannot abandon their city, without losing their identity and everything that makes them into such a regiment.

Personally, I do not think the Renaissance-like contract-picking mercenary style really works for the Freeguild, in the world of Age of Sigmar - specifically because of how brutal conflict in it can be.
The underlying issue with mercenary forces, is that they're always free to decline offered contract. Whilst it works fine for petty squabbles between historical Renaissance states, in Age of Sigmar the conflict can be so demanding, that no mercenary force with a shred of self-interested sense of preservation would take it.
Putting it bluntly, there's no amount of Realmstone or Lifewater, than might sway a mercenary to join on a nearly suicide campaign against Skaven-infested lands or Dawnbringer Crusade nearly assuredly destined for failure - defining feature of mercenaries is that they have a choice, and they can always choose to shrink from most dangerous contracts in favour of safer ones.
Hence why, in my personal opinion, it makes more sense for the Freeguild to be professional, paid armies of Free Cities, but remain under chain of command and unfree to choose their own engagements and campaigns.

Looking at the new Freeguild models made me think about how their lore changed subtly over the years, and whether it still works at all.
I'll preface it by saying that idea of "mercenary armies" styled like those of late Medieval and Renaissance were always confusing to me. I've always been more of a fan of large and complex armies of Antiquity.
Regardless, I understand that at their introduction into the lore, Freeguild were meant to function as mercenary companies, who could/would voluntarily sign up long-term employment contract with a Free City.
But looking at how culturally-tied some Freeguild regiments became (or were from the moment of their founding) to their Cities, like Lionesses of Edassa, it seems that the Freeguild regiments can also be closer to a paid professional standing (permanent) armies of their respective Free Cities, rather than free employed mercenary forces. The aforementioned Lionesses of Edassa, for example, are so intrinsically tied to the Free City of Edassa, that they truly aren't mercenaries, but rather a regiment of standing army of Edassa - Lionesses cannot abandon their city, without losing their identity and everything that makes them into such a regiment.

Grew up with an old dad who loved Ian Fleming's James Bond. Naturally, I was drawn to Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider. I read all the books up until Scorpia Rising because that, from my understanding, was the original ending (or Crocodile Tears), plus I grew out of the genre.
However, I loved the show when I discovered it during COVID. I know the show was cancelled primarily because the cast grew too old for their roles, and Amazon axed FreeVee. Otto was playing a 16-year-old at 26, lol.
I know they changed the order of the books and some plots around, like Yassen and Alex's relationship, because the series was only three seasons.
Does anybody know if Anthony Horowitz has mentioned wanting to reboot the show or make another movie attempt?
I think it would be best as a show, but they should either age up Alex or get super young actors.
I just think Horowitz probably feels like he has had his character burnt by the TV/Movie industry twice already and is done with it. It just sucks because you would think kids today would like a teenage spy show. Maybe people's imaginations are gone, or they just want dramas they think are "real" enough for them.

The DM for my weekly campaign had to pause sessions for several weeks. I offered to run a level 10 one-shot to fill the space and everyone decided to participate. As a first time DM I wasn't expecting much from a one-shot I put together in several hours. It ended up turning into a 4 session long mini-campaign that everyone said they really enjoyed. - Devil's Decibels: The players are contracted to act as stage security for a heavy metal bard band. They plan to perform a risky show in the Abyss and fully expect to be attacked by all manner of demon. This is gonna be one hell of a show!
- Blood Drive: The players are contracted by Vampires to assist with the operation of the "Hemovore"; a powerful vehicle made with one purpose in mind. Harvest and haul. They'll be traveling through the Nine Hells to collect devil's blood straight from the source. The deeper they go, the bigger the bonus.

So my mother (60) has always had a flair for dramatics and will convince herself of things that are just not true, and of course her brothers (my uncles) think it’s hilarious and will get her worked up even more, while making fun of her for being so gullible behind her back. I cut her out of my life 4 years ago. We are in Michigan. Someone I trust in the family came to me with concerns that my mother may lie to try to get conservatorship over me.
Here is what I know. Her current belief is that I am an unemployed alcoholic living in my car and being taken advantage of by evil men from the political party that she hates. This is not true. I have a place, pay my bills and had a full-time job last time we spoke. I did leave that job but I also returned to school full time on GI Bill, which includes a stipend for living expenses, and found a sweet part-time job, in an air conditioned office, on campus. As far as I know she has no idea I am back in school and I haven’t told anyone in my family, even the ones I trust, what is going on in my life.
Problem is that she lost her job of over 20 years during a mass lay off sometime since we last spoke. These new coworkers haven’t known her long enough to recognize how she doesn’t keep her stories straight or how she flip-flops things around. Basically she has led everyone she works with to believe I am only in my early-mid 20’s and haven’t quite finished my “teenage rebellion phase”, and she is a good mommy who just wants to save her baby from the evil political party.
They have all been “helping her with “research””, and believe because I have a disability rating from the VA, it means I am mentally incompetent. It does not at all mean that. Now I am positive that none of them actually understand how a VA disability rating actually works, my mother likely lied to them about it. Her new friends believe she can have me declared incompetent, force me to live with her for monitoring, and finally take control of my finances thus getting control of my disability payments. I have an 80 rating which is currently just under $2000 a month.
My concern isn’t that my mother could prove I am incompetent but it’s that she could use court proceedings to get a hold of my address, school, or work place. I guess my question is about rules of discovery when it comes to conservatorship cases. Can my mother or any lawyer willing to take her case on actually get ahold of my personal info I don’t want her to have?
If I provide courts with documents proving my competence and ability to care for myself, do I have the right to ask the court to seal or redact any information or documents with info I don’t want her getting? She sabotaged me going to college around 20 years ago and I don’t want to go through that again. I am assuming that the first person I would ever have to deal with would be a social worker, and I want to know if I have any legal recourse to prevent the social worker from sharing my info with my mother?

See if your college has some kind of free legal aid service they can direct you to, and explain this to them. They might be able to point you in the direction to get low cost or free legal services so an attorney can send your mother a cease and desist letter along with filing for a restraining order in such a manner as to not disclose your current whereabouts.
They might also have other ideas that will curtail any attempt by her to try to put a conservatorship in place.

Not a lawyer, but they pay me a shit ton of money to handle stuff like this as a private investigator. Here's my take.
Yes. Her lawyer will hire an investigator to find all of your information. They will pay online databrokers for your file and they will get WAY more than your address. (Everything. They will get everything. If you fucked up and said that thought you didn't want people knowing about, they will find that out.)
Any of that information that can then be found on Google is a public record since it's already on the public Internet. Your address is almost certainly among that data.
No court can sanction public information. Even if they could, the internet is forever and it's already out there.
So, bad news there. The good news is that you're a grown ass woman and the courts are not going to give her a conservatorship just because you have PTSD. You are in no danger of anything other than your mom showing up on your doorstep unannounced.

Backstory: Mother wanted me declared incompetent to gain control of me and my veteran disability payments.
So I talked with another family member who confirmed what the first said. Everyone is angry because I wasn’t suppose to find out what happened because “they were handling it”. I refused to tell who told me, which is causing more anger but whatever. So this situation had resolved itself last week. My mother was talking a big game about how she was calling lawyers and Adult Protective Services. After a few days she started trashing on all lawyers and saying that APS was wasting taxpayer dollars.
Apparently she has forgotten all about this whole mess. Her job got a new summer internet and my mother is obsessed. Every conversation anyone has with her is about this guy. My poor grandma has to have no less than a one hour conversation with my mother everyday about this guy. The guy comes from a lot of money, which in the end was what I think she wanted with me. This guy just turned 20 and my mother is 60.

If I had a nickel for everytime I heard of someone's mom trying to force their 100% VA disabled veteran son or daughter to live with them by declaring them incompetent for self care, I'd have about 25 to 30 cents. It's just weird that it's happened that many times, and it's sad. Stay away from her, and thank you for your service!

TLDR of my previous post was that my mother wanted to have me declared incompetent so she could get control of my veteran disability payments and force me to come live with her. I went no contact like 4 years ago. Her plan was to make up wild stories about me and it didn’t go her way. Now she is obsessed with this new intern at her job that comes from money, and seems to have forgotten all about her plan.
I was able to squeeze in meeting with the social worker who works at my VA clinic. I gave her the run down and even showed her my two previous posts. She thought it was kinda funny. She informed me that if a state SW were to be informed of a veteran in a need they would reach out to the VA and she would likely be a first point of contact.
She said that no one from the county or state has contacted her about me yet, but she would make a note. Apparently, the whole Britney Spears conservatorship has made a lot of people think it’s super easy to get conservatorships. She said some people think they will get paid a lot of money to do it. Her best guess is that if my mother did call, it was explained to her how complex the process is and that I would be guided to the VA to receive treatment first, before declaring me incompetent. She did agree with many of the comments that said my mother could find me pretty easily if she really wanted to.
The SW use to work at the state office and while she didn’t work at adult protective services but she had friends and coworkers who did. Money seemed to her to be a really big factor in how hard people fought to get conservatorship. She was surprisingly compassionate towards my mother and said sometimes parents just get worried and worry makes people do stupid things. She said some parents have a hard time adjusting to their children becoming adults and moving out.
Sometimes it’s because they are losing child support, or they’re losing the person who did all the chores, or because they just don’t want to face reality that their baby grew up. And these parents will lash out at the world instead of accepting the truth. She told me about a case a friend of hers had where the parents of an adult woman who had moved out couldn’t face reality. Her parents had been relying on her to do all the housework and raise her brothers. With her gone, everything fell apart at home.
These parents blamed their daughter who had moved out instead of taking responsibility for their own lives Her friend was so stressed by the case because she got yelled at by the parents almost daily about how the state needed to force their daughter to move back in with them. They never got their wish and almost lost their other kids. A grandparent found out what was happening and stepped up to set the parents straight.
Someone had messaged me saying my post was blowing up on social media and I went looking for it and couldn’t find it. They pointed out my family could see it, but I’ve decided I don’t care if they do.
So basically, if my mother really wants to find me she can, but the conservatorship isn’t that easy to get, and I know my mother well enough to know she doesn’t have the patience, or money needed to pursue this anymore. Also there seems to be a lot of rules surrounding conservatorship that I don’t think my mother would have liked following. So I should be good for a while.

You should still remain in No Contact with your mom. This will still make it difficult to gain conservatorship over you. I also don't think the VA hospital will pronounce you incompetent at all unless you lost limbs or went into a vegetative state from a concussive blast, in addition 100% Disabled ≠ Incompetent to manage youre own life. Hopefully, the VA will become an advocacy group for you, im also pretty sure the VA offers lawyers to their veterans. You can ask about that if your mom steps out of line.

Mother wants to legally force me to live with her even though I am 39.
So my mother (60) has always had a flair for dramatics and will convince herself of things that are just not true, and of course her brothers (my uncles) think it’s hilarious and will get her worked up even more, while making fun of her for being so gullible behind her back. I cut her out of my life 4 years ago. We are in Michigan. Someone I trust in the family came to me with concerns that my mother may lie to try to get conservatorship over me.
Here is what I know. Her current belief is that I am an unemployed alcoholic living in my car and being taken advantage of by evil men from the political party that she hates. This is not true. I have a place, pay my bills and had a full-time job last time we spoke. I did leave that job but I also returned to school full time on GI Bill, which includes a stipend for living expenses, and found a sweet part-time job, in an air conditioned office, on campus. As far as I know she has no idea I am back in school and I haven’t told anyone in my family, even the ones I trust, what is going on in my life.
Problem is that she lost her job of over 20 years during a mass lay off sometime since we last spoke. These new coworkers haven’t known her long enough to recognize how she doesn’t keep her stories straight or how she flip-flops things around. Basically she has led everyone she works with to believe I am only in my early-mid 20’s and haven’t quite finished my “teenage rebellion phase”, and she is a good mommy who just wants to save her baby from the evil political party.
They have all been “helping her with “research””, and believe because I have a disability rating from the VA, it means I am mentally incompetent. It does not at all mean that. Now I am positive that none of them actually understand how a VA disability rating actually works, my mother likely lied to them about it. Her new friends believe she can have me declared incompetent, force me to live with her for monitoring, and finally take control of my finances thus getting control of my disability payments. I have an 80 rating which is currently just under $2000 a month.
My concern isn’t that my mother could prove I am incompetent but it’s that she could use court proceedings to get a hold of my address, school, or work place. I guess my question is about rules of discovery when it comes to conservatorship cases. Can my mother or any lawyer willing to take her case on actually get ahold of my personal info I don’t want her to have?
If I provide courts with documents proving my competence and ability to care for myself, do I have the right to ask the court to seal or redact any information or documents with info I don’t want her getting? She sabotaged me going to college around 20 years ago and I don’t want to go through that again. I am assuming that the first person I would ever have to deal with would be a social worker, and I want to know if I have any legal recourse to prevent the social worker from sharing my info with my mother?

See if your college has some kind of free legal aid service they can direct you to, and explain this to them. They might be able to point you in the direction to get low cost or free legal services so an attorney can send your mother a cease and desist letter along with filing for a restraining order in such a manner as to not disclose your current whereabouts.
They might also have other ideas that will curtail any attempt by her to try to put a conservatorship in place.
OOP: I just checked and they don’t. But, silly me forgot, the VA clinic in my city has a social worker on site. I used her once for a medical power of attorney. But I bet she could either help me herself or get me to the right resource.

Not a lawyer, but they pay me a shit ton of money to handle stuff like this as a private investigator. Here's my take.
Yes. Her lawyer will hire an investigator to find all of your information. They will pay online databrokers for your file and they will get WAY more than your address. (Everything. They will get everything. If you fucked up and said that thought you didn't want people knowing about, they will find that out.)
Any of that information that can then be found on Google is a public record since it's already on the public Internet. Your address is almost certainly among that data.
No court can sanction public information. Even if they could, the internet is forever and it's already out there.
So, bad news there. The good news is that you're a grown ass woman and the courts are not going to give her a conservatorship just because you have PTSD. You are in no danger of anything other than your mom showing up on your doorstep unannounced.
OOP: How likely are lawyers and private investigators to take on someone without the ability to pay. Do they have the ability to check credit scores. My mother is terrible with money. My brother confessed to me that she “sold the house” she bought with her third husband a little while after their divorce. By brother insinuated that she was in a bad way with money. I know that when I was 20 and she was 40, I had a better credit score than her. I went to buy a used car and she said she would have to co-sign cuz I was too young to have a good credit score. Turned out I got a better rate without her co-signing. Makes me wonder how bad someone’s credit has to be that you are detrimental to a loan as a co-signer.

Hi! I’m a 24F recent graduate and I’ve been fortunate enough to have multiple interviews. Currently, I have 4 companies on top of my list which I consider working with. My dilemma is I am also reviewing for my upcoming board exam this year. To pass the boards is the main goal but atm, my dad is the only one working in the household, since my mom was offered a package due to company reconstruction. Majority of our monthly expenses came from my mom’s salary that’s why this sudden change of plans prompt me to apply even while reviewing for boards. I was hoping you can help give me advices on what should I choose among these companies. Thank you so much in advance.
Company A- first to interview me last April 29. Lowkey company but apparently has many branches nationwide. Already given me a job offer last May 21, which is more than the minimum of what I asked (which is great I know since it will greatly help my family’s expenses). In terms of other benefits, they have other government mandated benefits, HMO plus company car w/ gas & maintenance fee. The workload is okay based on what was discussed. 48 hrs per week. I’m already done with the medical and verbally agreed in accepting the offer but I haven’t returned the signed contract yet. Training will start as soon as I send my medical results and contract.
Company B- very BIG and well known company in the Philippines (🍺) . Done with the interview with both hiring manager and manager. Currently have the slip to undergo medical as well (May 28-June 11). No job offer yet. But afaik, the offer compared to Company A has a 1-2k difference (higher). Benefits is the same with company A, but higher HMO package. Training is longer and workload is heavier since they really ensure the readiness of the employee for the job. Work sched is not definite. Usually on call anytime of the day.
Company C- international company but the position somehow requires me to relocate in order for me to save travel time. No company car, no relocation package. Will be having a final interview by this week or next. Target start date is June 15. Salary that I asked is higher than that of Company A & B, which according to them is withing their budget. No job offer yet. Work sched is flexible, I just have to deliver the work quota.
Company D- subsidiary of one of the biggest pharmaceutical company in the Philippines. Work schedule is the typical 9-5 pm but sometimes OT may be required. A clinic set up. Definitely have the highest pay among the 3, but this role is the last choice for me. Will undergo a few more interviews. Accomodation is free. No company car. Have government mandated benefits and HMO, and discounts if I buy meds from their company.

Why does this Kendrick vs Drake thing is a lot deeper than we think?
I know Drake is a petty Scorpio and We have seen Kendrick as a true form Gemini. This entire beef feels more than just culture vs vultures. I feel the real hidden agenda is arising with even who the next generation of kids, artist and who of the music game is going to be promoted and shown. Of course we have the good and bad everywhere but the real “control room” or “manipulators” of the industry are about to be brought to light.
I saw a reel of a dude saying Kendrick verse on Beyoncé song “American has a problem” was Dot already targeting Drake and UMG. UMG is of course damn near owners of everything in the music business and a lot of artist don’t like it, even relating to drakes 9 figure deal.
Some say Kendrick aligning with Hov and Bey is that he is ensuring he’s cemented in the game along with doing songs with Taylor Swift. Aligning with the top business people/artist and the biggest American artist is to save all artist from being taken advantage of in a game where it was always allowed. Some say Drake aligning with the young artist wasn’t by choice or could be to continue to eat off everyone’s work and bring the bag back to the vultures.
I didn’t dive too deep but on the surface level I don’t think Drake is done just yet. Sza is team dot and Sexxy red is team Drake. Kendrick named S.R. in euphoria, claimed Drake abs were made and said sweet chin music in not like us. Well since the song “U my eveything”(which I think is a horrible song) S.R. Had a Drake feature immediately, where he mocked the BBL stuff and she’s then seen with Shawn Michaels. Sza said basically leave her out the beef but she did post Dot on her social the other day right after “U my everything” dropped. Sza is by no means a saint but she does make soulful music that in a sense “electrifies” the listener. May it be emotional, physical, sexual or sensual. Sexxy red brings out the energy to not make good decisions, being not liberated in who you are but what you do. Which may be called “pacifying”. they’re both total opposites. Some what like Kendrick/Drake, UMG/Independents, Born in it/Idolize from it.
I make that example above because outside of the music industry slowly sucking the creativity and the structure of the culture being confused. The grand scheme of things is to find a way to stop the overly sexualized, mind loosening and not mind tightening product that continues to be produced. Toxic love, being a hoe, you my opp, always on sight, drug infested and ruin your morales-like context of music, videos, social media post and entertainment. No one is being mentored to bring out art with the high rate of artist we are exposed to all the time. You get a buzz and now we sign you and own until you fall off or die. Rarely does any artist get a second deal. On the other hand give more freedom but select and choose artist to produce greatness. Basically bring back the A/R and development team without the back handed contracts and deception.
Of course, you can bring up stuff like sick agendas in the background, The knife in the back relationships, and the Hand in pocket contacts. But do we really want every person to believe they can make it big because they only know how to speak on the nasty side of the culture. Do the people who love hip hop and what was birth from it to be diluted or filled with hoe, drug, money, car, clothes, sex and killings? Back to sza she has a bbl but she’s not a spokeswomen for it though she embraces her beauty and personality as a woman. S.R. Has a natural body but wants to be the top hoe, wants to give herself to anyone and leads a group of people think the same. She the spokeswomen of that culture. I feel Drake/UMG are gonna take advantage of everythings possible the industry can give them and all while Kendrick is trying to stay ahead of this industry to be still show you don’t have to sell an image to only sell yourself because someone told you so. If Sexxy was able to do what Doja Cat did the I wouldn’t be writing this. Turning a Trash world troll song and making Amazing buzzing next level songs into albums and art. Not this repetitive bs.

Hi everyone, a bit of a long post here.
I feel like I am facing somewhat of a dream scenario, and I don't want to squander it. I will summarize my situation and my priorities, and I'm hoping you can help me sort out a way to use my time wisely.
Summary: I am a single American high school teacher in Korea (international school). My summer break is starting next week, and it will last for about 10 weeks. I have almost zero responsibility during this time. I am financially stable and have a good amount of disposable income.
I was originally planning to stay in Korea over the summer with my girlfriend, but we recently broke up. I have no travel plans for the summer as of now. I am open to making some. I am well traveled already. I enjoy the city where I live (especially in the warmer months).
The relationship was pretty toxic, and I need some space and time to heal before I jump back into the pool. I am open to casually dating. I'm not super enthusiastic about that right now but could be in a month or so. I am also exploring options for some therapy. Some travel may be helpful here as well.
I am taking a master's course (American university, asynchronous online) this summer. It will last for 8 weeks. It will take approximately 4 hours per week. I also need to work on a few things for my teaching job. I estimate that will take about 2-3 hours per week.
I highly value my fitness and love to lift weights. I have a gym membership.
I want to continue studying Korean -- unfortunately the class I signed up for was cancelled. Self study is difficult for me, but I am willing to give it another go in this situation. I speak decently already and am open to new ideas.
There are some books that I'm planning to read.
There are a few video games that I want to get through.
I do enjoy nights out with my friends, some of whom will be in town this summer.
Priorities in order: This is a loose order that I thought of in a few minutes. I want to make time to accomplish all of these things.
Question that needs answering: If you were in my situation, how would you structure your days/weeks in order to be as productive and wholistic as possible? If you can only speak to one part of my priority list or situation, that's totally fine as well.

Kind of a late post, I officially FIRE'd last September, guess I just wanted to make sure it stuck. Before making my post about it. I'm hoping to make yearly updates, just to track the post FIRE journey. I'm also on mobile, so forgive the errors, or roast me for them, I'll take either.
Anyway, onto my journey and numbers. Numbers are at the bottom if you don't care about my boring life story. I know all we really care about here is seeing the stats, at least that's what I like.
I enlisted in the Air Force at 18 with $500 in my bank account and did almost 12 years active duty. I know the military isn't for everyone, but I had a blast. Learned a few foreign languages, got to fly on multiple aircraft (MC-12, RC- 135, and and the AC-130 gunship),and finished my last couple years as a paralegal.
My initial plan was to retire at 20 years, but during my time AD, I purchased several multi family homes, invested in the stock market,and remained frugal. By the time I separated I had a primary home, a 4 plex, a triplex, three duplexes, and a SFH I bought for my brother. I ended up with 60% disability, but that recently got bumped up to 90%.
Once I got out of the Air Force, I got a defense contractor job as a pred drone imagery analyst...the pay sucked and the hours were long, but I missed being part of the war effort like I was in my aircrew days. That lasted 11 months.
Then I got picked up for a much higher paying job, deploying as aircrew to different warzones. Made about 200k a year for the next 3 years for 6 months of work a year. My plan was to keep doing the job until the contract got cancelled, but defense contractor life is full of layoffs. My layoff in September triggered my decision to FIRE. I also downsized my rentals by selling the triplex and two duplexes, might sell the third duplex this year or next.
Not sure what my future goals are, I do need to use my GI Bill for college at some point and I would like to start traveling some more.
Now for the part that matters, the money I decided I could FIRE with.
Investments:
-200k in retirement accounts
-700k taxable brokerage account
-100k in USFR (mostly to cover my cash secured puts)
-25k in HYSA

Duplex: paid off -Purchased in 2016 for 89k cash, estimated value 225k based on recent offers
Sold properties:
Triplex: I sold as seller financing -purchased in 2020 for 106k purchase price, sold 195k at 5% for 7 year term 168k balloon payment at end
Two duplexes: purchased as a pair in 2015 for 190k sold for 450k
I think I covered everything. I'm considering downsizing by selling my primary home and moving into my four plex. That would take away my short term rental income.
Thanks to anyone who read this, I know it's just a dumb humblebrag post, but I don't see many stories on here from people who grew up poor and retired early. I spent a lot of time during my last few years in the military teaching younger military members the value of the VA loan and multifamily investing, would love to get back into that.

2024.05.29 07:40 Sweetandsavvynails AITAH for wanting my partner to be indoors with me, masked and with windows opened, after I’ve met my doctors + CDC isolation guidelines for Covid prevention?
My first symptom was 5/20 mild fever, on 5/21 I woke up with a mild sore throat. I was with him at his apartment during this time, which from what I understand is the time one would be most contagious. I had an immediate bright purple positive line on the test that I took after I got home from work on 5/21. Fortunately, he didn’t get sick, and neither did any of my clients from 21/20. I began my isolation on 5/22 and had a remote doctors appt, she told me that I should isolate for 5 days after my first symptoms, and assuming that my symptoms were improved and I was fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medicine, I could return to work and using public transportation, masked, regardless of test results. By Sunday, 5/26, it had been a full 5 days since my first symptoms, it was my 6th day since onset of symptoms, day zero being 5/20. I was feeling 95% better aside from very mild lingering congestion, and tested with a very very faint line. My partner had planned on coming to visit me to help me with a computer problem and to bring a care package, and I assumed we would mask and open the window. He’s never shown great caution surrounding Covid risk, and I’m the one who gets sick constantly and he’s literally never gotten my cold. I’ve never actually seen him sick in two years. He’s never had Covid and always updates his booster vax yearly + flu shot. He’s very healthy and low risk, so I was shocked that he told me he had planned on visiting outdoors only, and would talk to me “through a window” or on a walk, and that there was absolutely no way he’d come inside. I felt really hurt and abandoned because it had been a really hard couple of days for me, and I really needed his support, but I told him that standing 6ft away on the street would just make me feel worse so not to bother coming by with supplies, I wasn’t sick anymore and could get things for myself. We had to cancel our travel plans, and I took it really hard because I’ve been very stressed. I struggle with mental wellness and have been on and off antidepressants and see a therapist regularly to try and manage it, and I was just in a really dark place and still haven’t been able to get out of it even though I started work back up today 5/28. I haven’t forgiven him for being unwilling to be indoors with me using the precautionary measure of masking/ventilation. If he had been sick for 5+ days, was 95% better, with only a super faint line on his test, I’d have taken the chance. I’m not saying anyone should have been willing to be indoors with me, but the chance I would spread it to anyone at that point, especially masked, was low enough, that my partner should have been willing to. It made me feel horrible and he still won’t even admit that he was exercising a level of caution which exceeds doctor and cdc recommended guidelines, and after I returned to work today masked, he still did not offer to visit. I feel insane, I genuinely want to know if I’m being crazy, or if my feelings are valid.
