2024.06.09 19:45 sunnymarie27 Cruising to Alaska/Canada with Minors

For those of you who have travelled with children, does NCL ask for parent/guardian permission letters for children that are not traveling with both parents? Apparently cruises that go to Canada require that. Traveling with my niece and her mom, but dad is on birth certificate too and NCL website says my niece needs a letter from her dad saying that she is allowed to travel in Canada. Just wondering if they ask for this at check in. Thank you!
*If travelling to Canada, you’ll need the following document ~in addition to~ items #1 and 2 (Alaska, Pacific Coastal, and Canada/New England Itineraries):
Canadian entry requirements stipulate that a child under the age of 18 traveling alone, or with person(s) ~other than~ ~both parents~, should be in possession of a letter (preferably notarized) from the parents or legal guardian containing:

2024.06.09 16:58 boilernole Suggest me a book about Alaska

I’m about to board a cruise to Alaska. Any suggestions on a book to read during my downtime? I’m more into non-fiction (historical) but would read fiction if ya’ll think it’s the best pick. Thanks!
PS - Not a huge reader but trying to get back into it this year. Don’t mind being challenged.

2024.06.09 03:24 crazydaisy8134 Alaska Cruise: What do we do on days we’re cruising Glacier Bay and Hubbard Glaciers

We leave in 2 weeks. Are those days we cruise by glaciers just days we sit by windows to enjoy the view and make full use of our drinks package? Also, where are places to get the best views while cruising? I saw some posts say that NCL doesn’t have the best window views. (We won’t have our own balcony)
I’ve never been on a cruise so I’m not 100% sure what to expect.

2024.06.09 03:05 joe_mother_69 Alaskan wilderness

I've always been fascinated with forests all over the country, recently I visited western NC and I thought it was really pretty, I wanted to see Colorado's forests but I thought that, from what I saw, it was fairly barren and really rocky (rocky mountains hehe) Washington was pretty too buy I felt was expensive, the northeast as well. I saw alaskas just general wilderness and landscape and I thought it was beautiful, if you guys could compare these states or something like that that would be pretty kewl :0)

2024.06.09 02:57 HarvyHusky Vancouver/Alaska Question

Hey y'all!
I live in Seattle, and got Nexus since I drive up to BC relatively often. I sailed on the Dream out of Miami in August 2022, got a sailing on the Treasure planned for January next year, and was thinking of looking into Alaska cruises out of Vancouver. Here's where I wanted to ask for your opinion on something. If I drive, it would only take about two hours & I could easily just head up pretty early on embarkation day and just grab breakfast at Tim Hortons or in Vancouver before heading to the port. If I fly, it would only be about a 30 minute flight from take off to touch down. Would you recommend I drive up the day of, drive up the day before, or fly up the day before and get a hotel? I'm a bit torn haha.

2024.06.09 01:38 Can-dimon Alaska Cruise questions

Has anyone been to Alaska? What's the difference between a 10-day and an 11-day cruise, besides the obvious extra day? Is it better to book 10 over 11 or 11 over 10? Forgive me if the question is lame, I just don't understand why it only these two choice usually and why they just don't have one uniform duration for all Alaska cruises.
Is it okay to go for the least expensive Interior room for such a trip, or would you prefer to have the oceanview, and why?

Curious if they are more than two formal nights on a ten day cruise. Doing Alaska on Miracle next week. I assume the first seven MDR menus are standard, are the final three unique. thanks

2024.06.08 21:45 blueberry__11 🙏🏻Please help me choose between: 1) Truck camper 2) 4x4 Van 3) Something else I haven’t considered

My biggest priority is to access as many roads as possible. I want to explore remote areas, such as Alaska, and plan to visit most states and Canadian provinces, including cities but primarily wilderness. I think a 3/4 truck with a slide-in camper would be ideal, but I'm unsure about maneuverability on small forest roads due to its size. Would a pop-up camper help.. and maybe 1/2 truck instead or what’s the combination that can work better ? I'm also concerned about parking, as vans blend in better, but being able to go to remote forestry roads is a priority!
Please let me know what you think is the best option: what type of vehicle and what type of camper (if not a van).

2024.06.08 16:31 Dependent-Patience49 Who has cruised Alaska? Wanting to plan.

I have never cruised before but my husband and I really like the IDEA of cruising Alaska. We plan to do a resort for the tropical locations, but felt like a "cruising" Alaska sounded like a great guided way to be introduced to it. Thoughts? Share your experience? Which cruise line did you do and why? Excursions?

2024.06.08 15:54 NewYorkEnvironment Is it worth getting a travel agent?

I’m booking an Alaska cruise on HAL for July 2025 out of Vancouver. I’ll be parking at & flying out of Toronto the day before so will need a hotel. Is it worth getting a travel agent or should I just book everything myself through the direct companies?
I guess I don’t really understand what a travel agent does. If something goes wrong on my flight etc do they fix it for me?

2024.06.08 13:52 Fickle-Weird3407 First time booking a cruise. Full of questions!

We are planning an NCL cruise to Alaska. I have only cruised once and that was 2006 and I didn’t book that one so I will apologize in advance for the long list of questions (I’m sure it won’t be my last post) but I am nervous that I will get details wrong.
  1. We enjoy alcohol especially on vacation. We aren’t high end liquor drinkers. Mainly beer, wine or mixed drinks. The free at sea beverage package is appealing. I am nervous, however, about not understanding how it works and getting hit with expensive charges at the end of our trip. How do we know what we can have and where we can have it? Is there a limit and is there a guide in print or something that I can use to go by? (I’m a black and white list kind of person so not knowing if what I’m ordering will result in unknown charges makes me anxious 🤦‍♀️. I’m weird like that).
  2. We would like to book a room with a balcony. What part of the ship (Encore) is the best area to do this? Its my understanding by reading online that some parts of ships are noisier, rougher, etc. Any suggestions on which deck and area of the ship to book?
  3. Can you check your charge balances daily to make sure you’re not accruing unknown charges that you weren’t prepared for? Are there any unknown charges that you weren’t prepared for on your trip that we should watch out for or be prepared for?
  4. Free at sea dining-is there a list of restaurants that are included and not included in this for references so that we can plan our week? Do you just present to the restaurants or make reservations?
  5. How much is entertainment on board? Does it cost extra?
  6. Is your card used in the casino or can you bring cash there?
    I appreciate any help!

2024.06.08 02:20 sterilizedHSteacher Making a cruise connection

My husband and I will be flying Alaska Air for the first time next Friday. Our flight time was changed from the original booking and we are getting into Seattle at 10 pm. We are catching a cruise ship at 1 pm on Saturday.
I started seeing these posts about cancelled/heavily delayed flights and now I’m panicking about whether we should move to an earlier flight in case there are issues.
This is our first time taking a cruise and I just want everything to go smoothly. Any advice is appreciated!

2024.06.07 23:22 Erdabaker Which cruise line for which region?

I'm going to book cruises with Princess, Holland America and Carnival. We're not sure which cruise line is best for each destination. We are looking at a 1. Alaska cruise, 2. Mediterranean cruise, and a 3. Mexican Riviera or Caribbean cruise.
Which cruise line should we book for each region? Is there a better option (better region/cruiseline combo) we aren't looking at?
Appreciate any advice!

2024.06.07 21:28 thisgirl1983 How Far Out Do American International Flights Pop Up For Redemption?

I used to be pretty familiar with the rewards calendar, but it's been a while. Any insight anyone might be able to provide would be phenomenal!
So I just got a steal of a deal on a European cruise. Thing is, we have to fly back on a specific date (Sept. 4)
Right now, the available AA Flights that leave from Rome are super early in the morning and we won't be able to get to the airport in time for them. That said, there are around a dozen AA flights later in the day that work. Unfortunately, they're not available on Alaska Airlines awards yet, but I just checked on the AA site and they all have a ton of space.
Anyone got a clue if and when these might start to open up? I did something similar for a flight to Lisbon last year, and they opened up just around the 2-month mark.
Thanks in advance!

2024.06.07 21:26 Theironyis He needs a name

Long story short… The day we lost our old lady Doberman our little dobie boy was born a few moments later💙 I won’t bore you with them but we received lots of “signs” that he was supposed to join us. What we can’t decide on is a name. His sisters name is Kiska (an island chain in Alaska that was special to my grandma) so we are wanting something to match the theme of Alaska/wilderness/strong that starts with a K or an L (to honor our sweet old girl that passed) Anyone have ideas?

2024.06.07 21:06 doctorcrabapple Royal First Timer

We booked the Alaska voyage from Vancouver to Anchorage for 13 July. Got the plus package but am confused as to what the casual dining meals mean. I understand we get 2 meals each for the whole cruise but as far as I can tell, the only casual dining options on royal would be Alfredo’s and Ocean Terrace. Is this true or are there other options so we can try to find the best fit for our preferences when using this benefit of the package?

2024.06.07 21:00 FairyLakeGemstones Shout out to some locals.

I have had some interactions with some truly kind locals lately! Many in retail, some in financial instructions, at City Hall etc.
The gal at Island thrift store…you are exuberant in all the best ways. Definitely lifted the fog amassed in my brain the day I came in…left with a huge smile! Thank you.
The young clerk at Country Club Dollar store. Busy during the hiring fair yesterday but you were so smiley and helpful and kind, shout out to you! I hope you carry that with you in your life’s journey.
The tellers at the bank….they were lined up to the door, as always, but you were all so patient and calming, multitasking to get us moving along. Thank you as well! Can’t be easy when every one shows up at once on the ‘busy bus’. Well done.
And to the elderly gentleman in the bank line up who had the Alaska cruise hat on, you are a light sir, kept us all smiling while we waited. You mentioned how as we age, our memories fade…touched my heart.
The lady at the hardware store. Let me in front of her in the line up. No reason, just insisted. Thank you!
City Hall employee, thank you for patiently explaining to me that there was a City of Nanaimo and a District of Nanaimo, 2 separate rate entities. (Long stressful story)
Some days are just filled with these kind of humans. It doesn’t go unnoticed. I/we appreciate the kindness and patience and this town may be brimming with some truly bad stuff but there is good woven through it as well. I will pay it forward today and the next day etc. So if some stranger in a line up starts chatting with you or lets up pull in front of them in traffic….smile, you might just be the only light in their day!
